Francis is going up against a fellow Jostens finalist tonight in Hanover's Cam Fails.

(I am sorry that I never had the opportunity over the past four seasons to call a Hanover @ North Park game. Just once I would've loved to make the call after the Panthers star hit a shot, "Cam Fails ... but we still have audio!" ;))

Wheaton 84
Hanover 73

Francis with 42 and 13 on 14-29 shooting. Anajuwon Spencer had a 12-10 double-double, and Luke Anthony had a strong 13 points off the bench.

Wheaton really had this one in the bag until they deliberately slowed it down in the final four minutes, upsetting their offensive rhythm and, as it turned out, giving the Panthers a little bit of a chance to catch their breath. Nevertheless, the Panthers never got the Wheaton lead down to two possessions, as WC pulled back away at the FT line at the end.

Congrats to WC on their win.  Keep it going.

Solid win for the Thunder where they pretty much led the whole game.  Started out nervous on both sides, Francis ( 42 pts, 13 rebs) missing his first 3 shots badly.  But Luke Anthony( 13 pts)came in and scored 5 quick points off a trey and dribble drive to give the team a lift and then Wheaton was able to hit their offensive stride.  Anajuwon Spencer (12 pts, 10 rebs) had a terrific game against a simply undersized Hanover squad.

Wheaton played smothering defense and I'm not sure the Panthers were ready for it.  They really had trouble getting any quality shots up.

Panthers were led by Isaac Hibbard with 18 pts, 6 rebs while Ryan Cloncs with 15 pts.  Luke Peters played great defense on Cam Fails holding him to 12 pts, 9 under his average.

Fails also sat for big stretches of that game, and he wasn't in foul trouble. He only played 28 minutes. Not sure what that was about.

This Capital vs. UW-Platteville game at Carver is a great one.

I think he picked up his second foul about 6 mins into the game.  So he did sit some then.

He picked it up at the 10:24 mark. And he sat less than five minutes at that stretch, coming back in with 5:35 left. And he never picked up a third foul from that point onward. So I don't think it was a matter of fouls.

North Central 77
Chatham 48

NCC was actually down by one at the half, 25-24. The Cards couldn't hit a shot to save their lives, no matter where on the floor they took it, and the small and gritty Cougars were definitely outhustling them. But the Napervillains came out with a sense of purpose at both ends of the floor in the second stanza, and blew by the Cougars like they were standing still, outscoring the visitors by an impressive 53-23 margin.

Connor Raridon had an 18 and 7 game in only 25 minutes played, and Will Clausel scored 14 in only 17 minutes. Matt Cappelletti grabbed 11 boards, and Blaise Meredith garnered nine of 'em.

Tomorrow night's Loras @ NCC contest should be a doozy.

If it matters, Albion has played both losing to Loras by 11 tonight and North Central way back in December by 19  77-58.

Glad to see the CCIW go 3-0 tonight.  Keep it rolling all three.

This was a classic 1 vs. 16 encounter, as the game wasn't nearly as close as the final score seems to indicate. Augie ran away and hid early, and at one point in the second half had AU doubled up at 68-34. The Augie bench played indifferently, which kept the final score from being ugly. None of the Augie starters played more than twenty minutes, as Brett Benning led four Augie players in double figures with 21.

Puts in a nutshell the difference between men's and women's basketball in the CCIW: men 3-0; women 0-2. :(

When, if ever, has the CCIW gone 3-0 in the first round?  Kudos!!
