Smitty Oom

Wait... I missed 5 minutes of game time and he already has 20 points?

Unfortunately, Augie won't let me rewind to watch the start of the game like the NESAC streams did.

Don't blink, Smitty ... or you'll miss three more of his shots. ;)

I'm enjoying listening to Chris and Dan try to reverse roles tonight, but I think that Chris needs to go back to PBP and Dan needs to go back to color. Their rhythm's a little off.

Wheaton trails at the half, 43-45.  Francis already has 35 points, but I don't view that as a good sign.  Wheaton is much more dangerous when Aston gets his inevitable 30-40 points, AND teammates are contributing (see, for example, yesterday's win over Augie).  Tonight, no one else is really adding much value.

I didn't notice actually.  I think they're both pretty good - enjoy listening to their commentary and doing a nice job on a neutral game for them.

For Wheaton, everyone except Francis, looks a little emotionally spent from last night.  Plus, they are really missing Spencer Peterson's size down low on Marietta's Kreeger.  Gavin Hawkins is not experienced defensively.

No question.  I'm not sure Wheaton wins a shootout with these guys.  Very few of the Pioneers average more than 20 mins a game. They'll have fresher legs down the stretch.  Even Francis will get tired legs in minute 35.

Oh, everybody knows what a big Chris-and-Dan fan I am. They're just not used to each other's roles.

Meanwhile, Wheaton is in trouble. Marietta is dominating underneath, and now the Pioneers are running more effective halfcourt sets than Wheaton is.

Francis has just tied the D3 tourney single-game scoring record of 59 set by Guilford's Ben Strong a dozen years ago ... and it took Strong a full game plus three OTs to get his 59.

Fantastic back-and-forth game. Congrats to Wheaton on its first-ever D3 Final Four.

And congrats to Aston Francis for breaking the D3 tournament's single-game scoring record.

Wow, great game at Carver.  Congrats to WC on making the Final Four.

62 for Francis . . . that last trey from the corner a thing of wonder!

Given who has made the Final Four, I think Wheaton has a real shot at the National title.  Why not?  Maybe Francis will go for 70!

For the first time in over a decade, I looked up my username and reset my password, just to say: WOW and WOO!  (Also, thanks to the board for keeping this occasional lurker informed over the past 15 years).
