Man, I hate working a game while I've got a cold. I apologize to everybody who was cringing as they listened to my hoarse voice tonight.

Carroll just drained a trey from the corner with one second left to force OT at Carver in a game that Augie's led pretty much the whole way.

Yogao

Augie and Carroll going to OT after Jelen's attempt at fouling with a 3 point lead wasn't called. Carroll hits a 3 with 1 second left. Tied at 60.

Augustana 65
Carroll 63

Carroll missed the front end of a one-and-one with five or six seconds left and the Augie lead only one point.

As Dan Sand said on the air, Augie stole one at home against a pesky Pioneers team.

Augie 65-63 win. Carroll had a chance to win down one, but one of their best FT shooters missed the front end of a 1 and 1 with 6 seconds to go.

No mention of it anywhere on the broadcast, probably under strict orders, but according to NCAA statistics, this was Grey Giovanine's 500th victory.

* Luke Yoder: 26 pts
* Doug Wallen: 20 pts, 11 pts
* Charlie Bair: 13 pts, 11 reb
* Pete Lambesis: 14 pts, 3 reb, 3 assists

* Keenan Baltimore: 41 pts, 3 reb, 3 assists
* Jordon Kendrowski: 15 pts, 3 reb
* Brady Perry: 14 pts, 7 reb
* Sean Johnson: 12 pts, 10 reb

Interesting Xs and Os game.  Both teams came out in a zone.  Bosko had a tough matchup w/ IWU's quickness, and Ron Rose w/ Carthage's two 6-11 starters.

IWU played really well -- led this one from start to finish and by a 7-8 points most of the time.  The Titans didn't look anything like the team that got dismantled by Wheaton Wednesday -- they looked like a team that can play with anyone.

Freshman PG Luke Yoder had an impressive game, as did Doug Wallen.

This was the first time IWU had two double-doubles in one game since 2/4/07 (Zach Freeman/Darius Gant).

IWU had have that one.  IWU's next two - at #24-Augustana, vs #10-Wash U.

The Titans are 10-1 vs Carthage in the last 6 seasons.

Baltimore played like Aston Francis last night--Lord, I was so happy to see that kid graduate, and now Carthage has their version. I remember a pre-season interview with Luke Yoder where he said something like, "I might even be able to contribute this year as a Freshman." And I think to myself, "yeah, you're a (relatively) short, Freshman guard--good luck with that." I this case, I like it when someone makes me eat my words.

I keep thinking back to the Wheaton game, and what made them a much better team that night. I think I was their stifling defense and their willingness to bust through any screens to shut down the Titan guards.

Luke Yoder's 26 points last night were the most by an IWU freshman in at least the last 23 yrs. Beyond that we are at the mercy of game-by-game stats which may or may not exist.

Previous FR best shared by Sean Johnson who scored 25 in '08 and Luke Kasten who scored 25 in '00.

* Luke Yoder 26 pts, 12/7/19 vs CC
* Sean Johnson 25, 1/9/08 vs EC
* Luke Kasten 25, 2/15/00 vs EC
* Luke Kasten 25, 2/9/00 vs AC
* Luke Kasten 25, 12/11/99 vs Aurora
* Korey Coon 24, 3/21/97 vs Alvernia
* Sean Johnson 24, 2/7/08 vs NCC
* Luke Kasten 24, 1/22/00 vs NCC

Kienan Baltimore's 41 point performance last night was the 2nd best total by an IWU opponent in the 25 year history of the Shirk Center.

1. Kent Raymond/Wheaton, 2/9/07 (44)
2. Kienan Baltimore/Carthage, 12/7/19 (41)
3. Aston Francis/Wheaton, 1/7/17 (39)
4. Josh Hinz/Beloit, 12/2/03 (37)
5. Aston Francis/Wheaton, 2/7/18 (36)

Baltimore was awesome.  An early candidate for CCIW MOP of the year.

Sure glad the TITANS won that one . . . or deep trouble digging out in the CCIW race.  Yoder's two FTs in the final seconds key to the win.  I think at that point everyone gasping for air. . .

Mr. Ypsi

I'm really curious to see how IWU fares in tomorrow's Top 25 poll.  They were down to only 9 points last weeks.  Since then they have been humiliated by not only unranked, but no points Wheaton, then immediately turned around and beat #21 (and previously unbeaten) Carthage - I could easily imagine them picking up points or losing the few they had.

I think IWU will be about a push from last week to this week.

Wheaton is emerging as a pretty legit Top 25 candidate, and Carthage is already there.  IWU's 1-1 wasn't terrible...and the win over Carthage was a real good one.

Currently I see 4 CCIW teams stacked up ahead of IWU in terms of Top 25 consideration:
- Elmhurst
- Carthage
- Augustana
- Wheaton

IWU can get into the Top 25 poll by winning at Augustana and beating Wash U at home in the next two.  That will be tough to pull off, but that is probably the path in a very crowded CCIW/Central region.

This is another fun season in the CCIW.

I didn't say that, Greek.  I said "I see 4 CCIW teams stacked up ahead of IWU in terms of Top 25 consideration."

Based on results this season, both Wheaton and IWU (and Elmhurst, Carthage, and Augustana) should be ahead of NCC as of today in terms of Top 25 voting.

In terms of IWU vs NCC, I think the Carthage result is the difference maker as of today.  NCC lost to Carthage, and IWU beat Carthage.
