The Vikings were outshot by 61% to 37%, outshot from range by 62% to 33%, and outrebounded by 11. The Vikings did make their first eleven free throws, finishing 11-12 from the stripe.

The only win that bothers me is the overtime with Carroll.

To be fair, Carroll has played Augie pretty tough since they came back to the CCIW. Yeah, the Vikings swept the Pios by identical 68-56 finals in both Rock Island and Waukesha last year, but the year before Carroll knocked them off in Waukesha and the Vikings only won by four at home; year before that was a split as well. In a vacuum, I can see why it would bother you, but there's enough history there, combined with the fact that it seems like the CCIW will cannibalize itself to some degree over the next couple months, that it shouldn't necessarily be that troublesome. (Granted, I have ties to a rival. :P)

I've said this before on CCIW Chat this season, but Carroll is a tough out. The Pios don't look like much, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. They play great team basketball.
Yes they do and defend their home court very well. I just have a problem with a 1973 12 to 6 game which Augie won in Waukesha.

Crazy good CCIW slate today...

* (1-1) Elmhurst at (2-1) Carroll, 4pm

* (0-3) Millikin at (2-1) IWU, 4pm

* (3-0) Wheaton at (2-1) NCC, 7pm

* (1-1) Augustana at (1-1) Carthage, 7pm

Each of these games has huge CCIW title implications obviously.

Each game also has huge NCAA tournament implications.  Of the teams with the best overall resumes (Augustana, IWU, NCC, Elmhurst, Carthage), none can really afford a loss tonight.

And with 3-0 Wheaton traveling to North Central, I assume the 1972-73 Augustana Vikings will keep an eye on this one.  It's been 46 seasons since any CCIW team went undefeated in league play.  After tonight, does the streak continue for another season?

For whatever reason, the d3hoops site is showing Wheaton's loss to Ripon as a conference game, so John Liang and company may have inadvertently popped the cork early on this year's bottle of champagne...

You guys have been saying that Millikin has been battling injuries. Now they are just battling.

Final in B'town:  IWU 80, Millikin 71.  The game was actually closer than that.  Millikin is MUCH better than their record would indicate.  Healthy Fishers are very dangerous Fishers! :o

And thanks to Millikin for gaining The BeltTM back to the CCIW (where it belongs! ;D).  When IWU lost to WashU I really thought The BeltTM would spend the rest of the season in the UAA.  Now it will almost certainly reside in the CCIW, at least until the national tourney.

Elmhurst and Carroll are going to OT at Van Male.

This is a great game. Nobody's led by more than seven, and for the final six minutes of regulation the game was either tied or a one-possession lead for either team.

Make that two overtimes.

Twice now Carroll has played big-boy defense against #16 Elmhurst on the final possession before the horn.

Derek Dotlich drained a rainbow trey from 40 feet out at the buzzer to give Elmhurst an 82-81 double-overtime win at Van Male.

I'm telling you guys, playing Carroll is no picnic. Any team that walks off of the floor with a win over the Pios this season will have earned it. Doubly solid for the 'jays to have taken one in Waukesha.
