An absolutely gutting loss for Elmhurst last night. It's the third year in a row they have squandered a late, second half lead at Augustana. Furthermore, they miss out on an opportunity to sit alone atop the CCIW. Time to find out how they'll pick themselves back up after this one.

Hightops

The two losses by Elmhurst this year can be directly connected to technical fouls at inopportune times.  The Bluejays were tagged with three "T's" that lead to North Central points - That game was decided by two points.  In Rock Island last night, a late "T" let Augustana back in the game with a four point swing and disqualification of center, Lavon Thomas.  Those things are self inflicted.

Remaining games for the contenders...

* Elmhurst 8-2 (vs Wheaton, vs Carthage, at North Central, at IWU, vs Millikin, vs Carroll)

* North Central 8-2 (vs North Park, vs Elmhurst, at Augustana, at Carroll, vs Carthage, at Wheaton)

* Augustana 7-3 (vs Millikin, at Wheaton, at IWU, vs North Central, vs Carthage, vs North Park)

* Illinois Wesleyan 6-3 (vs Carroll, at Millikin, vs Augustana, vs Elmhurst, at Wheaton, at North Park, at Carthage)

* Wheaton 6-3 (at Elmhurst, vs Augustana, at North Park, at Carroll, vs IWU, vs Millikin, vs North Central)

I think 4 losses earns a share of the championship.

Elmhurst needs to have a strong (rebound) performance tomorrow.  Squandering Wednesday's lead is the 2nd time the
Jays have grabbed a L from the jaws of a W.   Time for the leaders to step up and get the team focused again on the court.  I also hope they don't take this Thunder team lightly.

I too  agree a 3 or 4 loss team wins it.

Just took a glance at Massey.  It is showing both Augie and Elmhurst running the table. Wheaton 5-2, NC and Bosko going 3-3, IWU 3-4, Carrol 2-4 and both NPU and Millikin win less.

Closest chances of error North Central 41% over Elmhurst, Wheaton over Augie 49%, North Central over Wheaton 47% and IWU over Carthage 47%.

So with info the prediction is

Elmhurst
14-2
Augustana
13-3
North Central
11-5
Wheaton
11-5
IWU
9-7
Carthage
7-9
Carroll
7-9
North Park
2-8
Millikin
1-9

I still thing that that 3 or 4 losses will win the conference.  5 or more losses might make it but don't bet on it. 6 or more losses no Pool C.

Going into Wednesday's games, KnightSlappy had Elmhurst as the sole CCIW team even making the Central ranking (#7) with Augie (#9) and NCC (#11) just outside.  Lot of games to be played and the RR's don't come out for another 2 weeks.  But given the league carnage that will continue to ensue, it might be challenging for two CCIW teams to just get regionally ranked much less receive a Pool C.

In all of the 34 years that the three-point line has been around in D3, I've never seen a player go to the free-throw line after being fouled in the act of shooting a trey attempt and then proceed to miss all three free throws.

Luke Anthony just did it for Wheaton at Faganel ... and right after he'd expertly suckered Ebrahim Jobe into jumping into him on the shot-block attempt, thereby committing his third first-half foul.

IWU led Carroll by 9 at halftime.  Then things got ridiculous!  Final Score from B'town: Titans 88, Pios 44. :o

Carroll had a poor record (9-10, 2-8 conference), but played everyone tough - their WORST loss of the season prior to tonight was 8 points (3 different times).  Bizarre game! :o

Fair warning to opponents: IWU graduates NO significant seniors (Coderre has never been a factor; O'Neill was expected to be, but hardly plays anymore).

Pretty sure Anthony clanked three in their first Elmhurst game.
