Do we know if Elmhurst can host next weekend?  Wasn't there a facility issue for this weekend?

I talked to Mike Schauer after the NCC-UWO game; he confirmed that Elmhurst did not put in a bid for this weekend, but he also said that they're working on remedying the issue for the possibility of hosting next weekend.

Those three guys were huge, but Matt Cappelletti made two of the biggest plays of the night. His trey with fifteen seconds left in regulation put NCC ahead by two, a necessary margin on a night when Jack Flynn in the paint seemed like a money deuce every time down the floor for UW-Oshkosh. (And it proved to be just that, as he hit the layup with two seconds left that let the Titans force the extra session.) And it was Cappelletti's leaping-out-of-bounds offensive rebound and mid-air pass with 17 seconds left in OT after a Meredith miss that kept the possession alive for the Cardinals and enabled them to play for the last shot with the shot clock turned off, resulting into the Clausel-to-Pollack game-winner.

Yep, very much so.

I was doing some channel surfing up in MN when I saw the score in this game keep getting closer and closer, until I finally had to switch over to see the final minutes.  I thought the ending of the Springfield Hobart game was wild, but this game was nuts! As the game went into OT, the best spontaneous announcer quote of the day was by the NCC crew - "This is absurdity at its finest!" Got a nice little chuckle out of me.  ;)

Great ballgame!  Props to NC and the Lazarus like comeback!

"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

Titan Q

The CCIW has had at least 1 team in the MBB Sweet 16 for each of the last 13 yrs.

6 of the league's 9 teams have been to the Sweet 16 in that span -- Augie, Carthage, Elmhurst, IWU, NCC, Wheaton.

The last time the league did not (2007), Carroll (now CCIW) was there.

Having upperclassmen playing big roles -- especially seniors and fifth-year seniors -- is huge this time of year.  Oshkosh was IMO the best team the Sons of Warden have faced this year -- no disrespect to any of the CCIW powers, but the Titans are better than their record would suggest and present unique size challenges.  I have to think a less experienced team would not have been able to find a way back tonight.

This hits the nail on the head. IDK what happened to UWO during the season that led to a higher number of losses coming into the tournament than you might expect. However, there is no doubt that with the inside duo of Flynn and Fravert combined with a more than competent backcourt, they are the most complete team the Cardinals have faced this season.

And, with the no disrespect to the rest of the CCIW comment — First and foremost, the quality of the conference's other Sweet Sixteen participant from Elmhurst is ubiquitously obvious. Going beyond that fact, I strongly sense that both Augie and IWU could have acquitted themselves quite favorably should they have been invited to the Big Dance.

Lastly, the Cardinals experienced leadership was undoubtedly a pivotal factor in their remarkable comeback.

Caught much of the 2nd half. Incredibly entertaining game. A lot of NCC players deserve a shout out for taking down the defending National Champs, but I think 6'4" (maybe a bit generous?) Will Clausel's defense on 6'8" Jack Flynn was as noteworthy as any. What a tremendous effort by that young man.

Will "Hercules" Clausel.  ;)  8-)

Anybody who has not been watching the UWO @ NCC game is missing something really amazing.
Amazing might be an understatement.   Cardinals dug a 15 point hole with 3:52 remains in first half.
Connor Raridon limited to 6 points, set much of 2nd half on bench with four fouls and then fouls out with 3:02 remaking In OTwith tie at 77-77.

Big effort by Blaise Meredith tonight ending up with 23 points.  Clausel big off bench with 11 and 6 big boards and Pollack finishes with 17 on 5-6 3 pt FG including some big treys.  Cardinals really stepped up when Raridon had to sit out with 4 fouls.

We might have seen the championship game tonight but if not certainly had a championship feel.  Well played by both teams!  And as usual, a well coached game by Todd Raridon.

Heroes abounded for NCC last night. 8 is a number that comes to mind. A sampling.........
Meredith — Just a superb overall effort. Beyond his scoring and defense, his 6:1 A:TO Ratio should not be discounted in importance.
Clausel — A Rock!
Pollack — Perhaps both some of the biggest threes, and the biggest layup The Hangar has seen
Aaron Jones — Any basketball purest knows the value of a 5:0 A:TO Ratio. Especially in a win or go home National Tournament game.

Todd Raridon has often demonstrated his fondness for the number 8. Observant CCIW followers know exactly what I mean.

Actually, Capp made THREE of the biggest plays of the night.
Watch the clip of Mike Pollack's game winning layup off the perfect pass from Will Clausel. Its #30 who sets the rock solid pick on Mike's man as he begins his back door cut to the basket.  ;D

Mr. Raridon is an exemplary coach.  Does anyone know if he quietly sought new employers or was his name "out there" as looking to leave Lincoln?  Scroll down 9 1/8 to check CCIW representation.  One would think Raridon will have plenty of time to slot much higher.

Yep. Aside from his (as of last night) 559 victories, plays such as the one he diagramed for the game winning OT basket on the Cardinals final possession last night give ample and confirming testimony to that fact.

What an opening weekend of the NCAA tournaments? Upsets a plenty. Gyms closed to fans. Incredible finishes. And so much more. Sunday night on Hoopsville we tried to cover it all.

The show started with extensive information on decisions surrounding COVID-19. We discussed decisions by Johns Hopkins and Amherst to close their doors to fans for the first weekend's games. We also talked about the incredible stories coming out of the tournament of how teams are moving on and how seasons came to a sudden and emotional finish.

Great weekend for CCIW hoopsters.  Congrats to both EC/NC.

This is the 2nd time Elmhurst has reached the Sweet 16.   Our 2001 team had a first round bye and advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing to IWU @ UofC   which broke our (student at the time) hearts.

Elmhurst is hosting.   One can look at this two ways  A)  Obviously,  playing at home in front of your fans is great.  There's the comfortability factor  or B) Elmhurst has been road warriors,  and the pessimist would change anything?

IMO- I think it is good Elmhurst has a chance to host.   Rohde continues to be the hot hand.
