Uh oh. Student at Yeshiva tests positive for covid 19.

A student from Yeshiva tested positive more than a week ago.  His father was patient zero in NY.  From everything we've heard, he was not on campus.

Further, the Yeshiva basketball team did not return to campus.  They've been staying on Long Island and practicing in local HS gyms.

Well, that's good news. Yeshiva's having one of its best seasons ever. Hope they stay well and nothing's cancelled. Several events (including sports events) are being cancelled here in Illinois just as a precaution.

According to reports I've seen, neither Yeshiva-related case was on campus in the last three weeks.  They should be ok.  RMC is also still open to spectators as of right now - although given testimony in Congress today from the NIH, that might be short lived.  We'll have to see how it goes.

CURRENT NORTH CENTRAL STATEMENT REGARDING COVID-19 AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION

The NCAA has established a COVID-19 advisory panel of leading medical, public health, and epidemiology experts from their respective fields of study and NCAA member institutions to guide its response to the outbreak; at this time all North Central College athletic-related competitions will occur as scheduled and will adhere to guidelines set forth by the NCAA.

* While the statement does not specifically address whether fans will be allowed to attend said scheduled athletic-related competitions, I believe it is reasonable to assume the answer is currently in the affirmative. Should the situation change, I think you can bet on the fact that President Hammond would very promptly advise the community.

OT:  Nuts and bolts, nuts and bolts, Oturu got screwed.  The only D1 player in the nation to avg >20ppg and >11rpg did not make first team All Big Ten!  He made second team.  To add to the insult, he made the Big Ten's first team All Defensive Player list.  (He probably led the league in blocked shots.)  Today's Chicago Tribune projects Oturu to be a to top 10 NBA pick.

Over the years we have seen CCIW players get slighted, locally and nationally.

All I know is that North Park is hosting a men's volleyball match this evening, and I'm going to be there to call it. Whether I'm calling it in a gym from which spectators have been barred, or whether someone decides between now and then to postpone or cancel the match remains to be seen. I'm just going to show up with the intention of doing my job as usual.

Wheaton the latest  to suspend geo-physical instruction and go exclusively on-line/virtual instruction for remainder of semester.  Asking students to remain at home or return home after Spr Brk.

This is no doubt difficult news for Anajuwan Spencer and all seniors looking forward to completing their studies alongside their classmates and teammates.

This is the first domino. Wheaton will undoubtedly cancel its spring sports schedule within the next few days, and, with Wheaton gone from the picture, the rest of the CCIW will likely follow suit.

More reasonable thing would be to maybe take a few weeks break at worse and reassess. Canceling spring sports feels like a severe overreaction. If they want to give it a few weeks, fine... but canceling everything is very different to come back from.

BTW - while it hasn't been announced, I am told NCC and Elmhurst will have restricted crowds (families) at best. That is the mandate from the NCAA.

Dave, Wheaton has effectively closed off its campus from now until the end of the semester to everybody but faculty, staff, resident grad students, and international students from restricted countries who won't be able to go home. That means that student-athletes won't be allowed back on campus, either. How is Wheaton supposed to field its teams in spring sports?

I've known a number of institutions that have allowed some students on campus ... and I think there has to be some rationalized thinking with all of this.

Wheaton is not one of them. Have you read this, Dave?

The current health crisis is filtering its way through many levels of society. Tonight's high school playoff game between Benet and Hinsdale South which was to be played at South, was postponed due to what was termed as some type of "health emergency" which occurred at Hinsdale South in Darien, IL sometime Wed afternoon. While not officially referred to as possibly being associated with the Coronavirus, my sources indicated this possibility was definitely foremost on the minds of the administrators responsible for issuing the postponement notice. An investigation is currently underway with a tentative make-up date of Thurs night if no additional symptoms are identified.
