Off hand, I'd say that UW Platteville or North Park probably have that record... they've won the most championships.

I'm about 90% sure that the Pioneers have the best winning percentage in the tournament.

Mr. Ypsi

I would think that North Park HAS to have the record - with 5 titles, I don't think they've been in enough other post-seasons to lower their winning percentage to .684! ;)

Wittenberg has now participated in 24 NCAA D3 tournaments, compiling a record of 47-24 (.662).  IWU is second in wins (39), followed by Potsdam St. (36), Scranton (32), Franklin & Marshall (32), and UW-Platteville (30).

The highest winning percentage, as Greg Sager has reminded us several times, belongs to Ohio Wesleyan, whose lone NCAA D3 tournament appearance (1988) resulted in a championship.  They are 5-0 all time (1.000); tough to top that win %.  Two WIAC schools follow the Bishops: Platteville is .857 in 9 appearances, and Stevens Point is .842 in 5 appearances.  Others at .800 or above are North Park (.813, 9 appearances) and Brooklyn (.800; 4-1 in one appearance.)

Well Cabs, we were put in our place.  Nice post David, very informative!  +1 for that.

It's all right there in the Final Four program, which I happen to have at my fingertips. :)  It also helps keep my memory fresh that pretty much all the "winningest" records in men's hoops are held by NCAC teams.   ;D

Ralph, being a resident of south Texas for the last year, I find a lot of humor in that article.  It is very true that west Texas accents are very different than east Texas accents, which are very different than south Texas accents.  Very similar to Illinois, which has 3 very different accents between Chicago, central IL, and southern IL.  Just last weekend I found myself in a moment of reflection and realized I have been down here too long when I asked my friends "are y'all fixin' to go get sumthin' tuh eet?"  Thankfully, I'll be back in IL over Easter week, so I'm hoping that will clean my lexicon system out.

I understood you very well.

Let me interpret that for your friends in Illinois.

"are y'all (the use of the second person plural means that you had addressed several people or implied several in the group e.g., a family)  fixin' (exhibiting great intention or in the temporal context, in the next few minutes) to go get  sumthin' (go and get--travel to a place where something can be purchased for consumption) tuh eet  (eet--correctly pronouncing the verb) ?"

That is excellent use of the language.  If you need to turn it off when you return to Illinois, you may.  Just realize that when you sit down in your local restaurant in Illinois, how much you would like to be consuming your favorite cold beverage, some chips, salsa and queso while waiting for your fajitas. ;)

Wittenberg's 24 tournament appearances is also tops in D3.  F&M, Salem St. , and Scranton are stuck on 19, with IWU nipping at their heels at 18.  Archrivals Hope (17) and Calvin (16) are in line behind the Titans.

Wittenberg also has the most Final Four appearances, now at 7.  North Park, Platteville, and Potsdam St. each have 5, and IWU this year joins Augustana, Calvin, F&M, Nebr. Wesleyan, Rochester, Rowan, Scranton, and Williams at 4 FFs.  Unfortunately (depending on your perspective), Witt has only converted one of these 7 opportunities into a title, though.  (They also won the College Division title once back in the pre-D3 days.)

And the three teams that beat Point ended up as runner-up.  Nebraska Wes. in 97, Eau Claire in 2000 and Gustavus Adolphus in 2003, which puzzles me on why Point didn't get into the tourney this year to keep their "every three years of losing to the runner up" streak in tact.  Apparently they were supposed to play Wittenberg in the tourney this year!  ;D

It's all right there in the Final Four program,

I wouldn't put much weight in that.  When I was out there for the Pointers and bought myself one of those programs, I noticed that it wasn't very accurate.  I don't have "examples" off hand, but I just remember looking at some of those records and saying to Swampgoon, "That ain't right!"  ::) ???

I know some of you already know this, but just a reminder for the rest that there's a CCIW baseball board on the site now, too, to help with your offseason blahs.

Speaking of baseball...I've set up a free casual yahoo fantasy baseball league for fun to get myself through the summer until Fantasy Football starts, and of course, something called the D3 basketball season.

I have to be making the wrong deduction here, but if NPU has won 5 titles, and they have 6 losses in the tournament, wouldn't that mean they had 11 appearances, not 9? Someone correct me on this...

There used to be third-place games played at the sectional (or regional?) level, and NPC must have lost two of those.
