In other news, NPU's 2020-21 roster is up as well.

Greg,
Do you really think the CCIW will have basketball this season? With the number of covid-19 infections increasing every day (now over 100,000 new cases per day, in the US) I will be surprised if any DIII teams suit up this year.

I can only see it happening if a vaccine hits the market in December and everyone can be innoculated by mid January. Not sure of the chances of that happening. (Although there is chatter that a vaccine is coming out in December.)

We're rather fortunate, here in Plattsburgh NY, where we've only had 213 cases of covid-19 since the pandemic started, but even so, the college has no fall sports teams and several weeks ago canceled all winter sports.

Well, we had two games last night and eight today, so some teams are suiting up.  Howard Payne MBB has a full 25 game schedule set up.

I'm not at all sanguine about the chances for a CCIW basketball season this winter, Prestidigitator. Ryan's pointed out that there are actual basketball games being played here and there on what would normally be D3's opening weekend, but for now that activity looks so sparse as to be nothing more than the efforts of a handful of outlier schools.

Chicago is at an all-time high right now in terms of new cases of infection. So is Illinois as a whole. Like you, I think that it's going to take widespread access to a vaccine within the next two months to make a CCIW season happen, and even then there's still a chance that it won't get a timely green light from the presidents of the league's nine member schools. But I'm not giving up hope.

I believe Ryan Scott made this point in August, but the $5 Covid-19 test with results in 15 minutes would be the game-changer Division III needs to open up rather than a vaccine.  I am know it was not 100% effective, but I lost track of that story and I am not sure if those are going to be widely available soon.

I tested for Covid-19 ten days ago, after finding out that I had been briefly exposed to a subsequently-diagnosed infected person at work earlier that week. (My test result was negative.) The test was free; there are free testing sites all across the city. I tested on Friday evening at 6 pm, and the lab emailed me the results on Monday while I was at lunch.

Yeah, that doesn't mean that Ryan's criteria of cheap testing with immediate results has been met, but we're definitely getting closer to that ... at least here in Chicago, that is.

It would be interesting to know how much a college or university has to pay for a test.

In Division II, the MIAA is moving forward with games beginning next week and the GLVC begins soon after.  Not that it matters, but potentially, a lot of institutions will be playing basketball by the end of the month.

Perhaps there will someday be a reliable and inexpensive (or free) rapid test that can be administered to athletes and spectators so we can get back to sports with fans safely in the stands. But right now the experience at the White House suggests we aren't there yet. Might we some day have to present certification of having been vaccinated for Covid in order to enter a sports or entertainment venue?

I fully believe in and support vaccines.  I 1000% believe everyone should get vaccinated (obviously barring some medical reason that precludes it).  I fully intend on getting vaccinated as soon as publicly possible.  I believe anti-vax folks are woefully uninformed and scientifically ignorant.  That said, lets pump the breaks a minute on some Orwellian Big Brother list creation just to be a free member of society in this country.  That is a very dangerous road to start travelling down.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

^^^ Perhaps i didn't express myself well. I wasn't thinking in Orwellian fashion. At least I didn't think I was. In many places in order to attend public school you have to demonstrate you are up to date on vaccines. So I was more thinking that since we know the risk is great when large numbers of people gather in close proximity for an extended period of time, perhaps it would be a way of getting past that risk until we know we are in the clear from this thing.

NPU has only three rostered players taller than 6'3".

Right but there are ten guys listed with no height or weight provided. At a quick glance, most of them appear to be incoming Freshmen or other newcomers. I think that's pretty typical for a North Park roster at this point of the school year, isn't it?

Jordan Boyd is 6'6. Jordan Morris is 6'5.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in what I was meaning to say. I meant more that to not have heights and weights listed was not uncommon at this point of the school year - not that NPU was short on height.  And no - I didn't come back to clarify just so I could say "short on height". 😊

This is an exchange of mea culpas, then, because I should've quoted my response to Mark rather than to you, Pete. My post was meant to inform Mark that the incomplete information on the NPU roster hides the fact that there are several more Vikings than he thinks that are taller than 6'3. In fact, there's six of them -- Karl Polk (6'7), Matt Szuba, Jordan Boyd, and Adam Bulwa (all 6'6), Jordan Morris (6'5), and Jalen Boyd (6'4) -- not three.

Of more interest to me than simply counting how many Vikings are 6'3 or taller is the fact that Karl Polk is listed as being considerably bigger than he was in 2019-20. Last season Polk was 6'6, 210. This year, as a sophomore, he's 6'7, 230.

I think that Polk and Jordan Boyd could turn out to be a dynamite inside combo.
