It's all right there in the Final Four program,
I wouldn't put much weight in that.  When I was out there for the Pointers and bought myself one of those programs, I noticed that it wasn't very accurate.

Well, a great example would be the kid who got a mention for being in the final four all tournament team from a team that wasn't even there that year. I think the kids name was right, but the team was wrong? Something like that. This is an error we noticed last year, and it was still there this year, which only adds to the silliness.

It's probably more right than wrong though? ??? :D

How did they get him in?  I heard he's barely eligible in high school let alone college.

I have to be making the wrong deduction here, but if NPU has won 5 titles, and they have 6 losses in the tournament, wouldn't that mean they had 11 appearances, not 9? Someone correct me on this...

There used to be third-place games played at the sectional (or regional?) level, and NPC must have lost two of those.

Yup. The Park lost the third-place game to William Penn in the 1981 Midwest Regional at Beloit, and the third-place game to UW-Whitewater in the 1986 Midwest Regional at Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings also won one of those now-defunct regional third-place games, as they beat Whittier in the consolation game of the 1982 West Regional. The other 25 wins for the Vikings all came in their five national championship runs.

That's a huge exaggeration. Williams started off poorly in high school, but his grades improved every year. His grades were good enough for him to be pursued by several D3 schools, including at least one other CCIW school besides NPU.

The NPU coaches really like Williams and expect big things from him. Even though he set the Niles North scoring record with over 1,300 points, his stats apparently don't do him justice. He was basically the sole scoring threat for a really inept 4-23 team, and was the focal point for a lot of box-and-one defenses employed against Niles North.

Sounds like he'll be a good one to build around.

I guess I'm in trouble.  Seems I've missed some kind of "activation" email--which really sounds serious.  However, not being much of a 'puter person I'll just hope I'm keep on, with appropriate sympathies.

In basketball it only takes 2 stud recruits and solid role players around them to get a program turned around.  Maybe this is piece #1 for the Park.  (I think Jay Alexander is going to be a good player too.)

Titan Q,

No video/DVD on the Lawrence/IWU game?  I'd love to watch it again.  Just curious.

Uhm, yeah.  :-\

We're only playing 4 non-conference in region games.. and that's only if we end up matching up with Franklin in the Pfund. Whitworth might still be good next year, Hope may be okay because they are Hope but they lose alot, Calvin should be great. Otherwise it looks like a pretty easy schedule. And why are we going to NY for our christmas tourney ???

Mr. Ypsi

April,

It may be worse than you think.

Unless the rules change, I don't think either of your games in Carthage would be in-region (unless you played Carthage, of course).

But being in Kenosha, I don't think either Hope or Calvin would be an in-region game.

Congrats to NPU for getting a recruit who might be able to help immediately.

Jim Hayford has built a very solid program at Whitworth, and three of his starters (all of whom averaged in double figures in scoring last season) will return. They'll be good comp. Hope will be a lot better than OK; even though the Dutch lose some quality players to graduation, they return a ton of talent. Glenn Van Wieren stockpiles good basketball players like a squirrel storing nuts for winter.

Some of those other games, though ... Principia? IIT? Principia went 2-22, batted 0-fer in SLIAC play, and fully half of their losses were by a minimum of 30 points. IIT went 3-26, and in their games against D3 competition they lost to North Central by 29, DePauw by 25, and Lakeland by 30. You could hand out uniforms to five violin majors from the Wheaton Conservatory and they'd beat Principia and IIT.

April, I don't know the particulars of how the Wheaton administration works out a geographical rotation for the basketball team's annual road tour, but my guess is that 2006-07 is the year that Wheaton's constituency in the NYC metro area was due to get a visit from the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance. I'm sure that Knightstalker will be more than happy to wear something orange and root for your alma mater against one of the CUNYAC teams.

NPU is looking to get several recruits that can help immediately. The Vikings are going to need them. Even if Gordon, Peterson, and Woodside are all 100% healthy and ready to go by the time practice starts next fall (which they should be), the Vikings would still have some holes unless there's an infusion of new players who are ready to contribute right away.
