Crusaders, gone.  Redmen, gone.  Chicago Mayor placed the statue of Leif Erikson on a list of 41, which includes Abraham Lincoln (there are numerous) for his oversight of the death penalty by hanging of 38 Dakota and policy of relocation of Native Americans, as possibly ripe for removal.  Given the secretive meeting, the public does not know the removal criteria/justifications.  Why Leif?  His settlement in Newfoundland, which is in CANADA, did not last.  L'Anse aux Meadows is nowhere near Maine.

Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass asks about Lincoln, Erikson, and President Ulysses S. Grant in today's article. Vikings, gone, due to today's "cancel culture?"

The best team won yesterday's 2pm tipoff.

It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of sommbitch or another.

Yeah.  Stop building statues.  Problem solved.

IWU into the CCIW Tournament Championship game -- assume against WC, the game we want to see.

Final at the Shirk:  IWU 75 EC 65

Big night for Luke Yoder

IWU:
Yoder 23
Wallen 15 and 7
Leritz dominant on the glass, 10 and 15
Bair 9 and 6
Lambesis 7 and 7

EC:
Genco 23
Thomas 10

Elmhurst fought hard, no easy win for the TITANS.

Seems a new Titan steps up every game . . .

Wheaton 78
Augustana 58

Alioth 21 and 10
Adom 20 and 6 assists
Cruickshank 16, 7 and 3
Anthony 9 and 5 Rbs

Wheaton is playing its best basketball of the season right now, and they have been pretty good all year. Balanced scoring, statistically the best defense in the league, solid bench play. Should be a great game on Friday. We'll find out just how good both these teams are.

Better yet, stop expecting heroes to be perfect plaster saints, rather than human beings who were (on balance) quite remarkable.  Problem solved.

Lincoln WAS undeniably a white supremacist.  In 1858 he may have been only marginally (if that) above average white values in that regard (he was, at least, adamently opposed to slavery or at least its extension).  By 1864/65 he was well ahead of most whites in terms of equality (at least in terms of the law - I'm not sure he ever favored social equality).  By today's standards, he was quite retrograde; by so vastly surpassing 1865 standards, he is very worthy of statues.  I sometimes shudder to think how "Neanderthal" our great-great grandchildren will judge us to have been! ;)

I can only speak for myself of course, but since I love football, eating barbecue and driving a 20 year old Jeep, I would say very.

The Titans played great, overall, last night.  Had a bad 5 minute stretch late where a 23-point at 10:40 lead shrank to 10 at 5:08, but overall I thought IWU looked very much like a national top 5 team.

This is a very strong IWU team that does not have many weaknesses.  They have great guards and great bigs.  They rebound it well; shoot it well.  They are great defensively.  They are deep and talented at all 5 spots.

IWU has so many different guys who can step up and lead any given night - they've had 5 different leading scorers in 8 games.  Last night soph PG Luke Yoder was the guy - with Elmhurst aggressively doubling Matt Leritz in the low post, Yoder made them pay.

Senior Doug Wallen was strong down the stretch, helping the Titans close it out.

The Wheaton/IWU game Friday, at Wheaton, should be a great one.  There are not many teams in the country better than the Thunder and Titans.

It is actually the CCIW Championship.  The league is awarding the title to the conf tournament champ this year.

For example, Millikin is the WBB champion after last night (not just the conf tourney champ).  Notice the banner the league gave to Millikin last night...

The Thunder have  7 players who average double digit minutes and 4 players who average at least 10 points a game. They have had 4 different players lead them in scoring and lead the league in most defensive categories. A very balanced and deep Thunder team. Credit to Mike Schauer who has done a tremendous job reloading his roster and putting these guys in a position to succeed. Adom is probably the leading candidate for the Thunder for POY and Cruickshank and Alioth have really been consistent.

What impresses me most watching this team is how well they guard other teams. They really run people off the 3 pt line and are able to stay in front of people without fouling. I haven't seen much of IWU so I am looking forward to this matchup. I wish it was NBA like and best of 7!

Now that would be cool.  Even if best of 5.

With no more games on the schedule, that would have been cool to do.

... and the trophy handed out last night at the Griz was not the standard conference-tourney-champion trophy, which is a loving cup. Instead, it was the standard conference-championship trophy that the league always hands out (a plaque with the gray CCIW logo on a white background, with a statuette representing the specific sport attached to the plaque) to the official champion of the league proper.

In the league history/archives, Millikin WBB will be recognized as the 2021 CCIW champions...with an asterisk explaining there was no regular season champ.
