Friday is the end of the 2021 road for IWU.  Ron Rose and staff looked for games that made sense but couldn't find the right fits.

The Wheaton game will be an intense, meaningful, championship-feeling game. I'm good going out that way.

Not CCIW related, but here's to Finlandia winning tonight!  Copied from the Undefeated and Winless board, which has laid dormant or over a year.......

Finlandia wins!  The Lions' 57 game losing streak against ALL competition has ended with a 94-87 win over Gogebic Community College.  This avenges an earlier loss this season to Gogebic.  This was Finlandia's first win since January 18, 2018.

Some may point out that Gogebic isn't a four year college, but Finlandia still gets a tip of my cap, just for persevering in the most challenging (due to isolation. brutal climate, etc.) situation in all of D3.

There's only one proper way to commemorate a victory of that magnitude.

I was curious and I looked and I am surprised just how far and wide the coach goes to get students.

Students travel from all over the country to play for Finlandia.

augie77

I noticed the same thing.  Only five of the 21 rostered players are from Michigan.  Nine players from Florida or other Sun Belt states.  Perhaps it's snow that attracts them.  :o  The university has just 335 students.

I'd love to hear more about their program and what keeps them going.

I hate to go against the buzz as I am always for the underdog... but the fact that the win was against a 2 year school most likely renders this game as not official.... I don't think it would count in NCAA records or D3hoops.com, so I'm surprised that it is currently shown on D3hoops... Hoping Dave, Pat or Ryan will see this and verify one way or the other.... :'( :'(
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

augie77

It's not official, but still deserves notice imho.  Something for the players to feel good about.

It doesn't count towards NCAA records. As far as the NCAA is concerned, Finlandia's losing streak remains intact.

How in the heck do they even stay open?

I do think I could live in the upper peninsula and I may retire there, but I guess I would have to drive to Stevens Point for basketball.

Yeah, the NCAA doesn't recognize their games against Gogebic or Bay College.  I went in and changed them to exhibitions in our system.  Hopefully I don't get in trouble.  That's essentially how we've treated them in the past.

Concordia web site indicates this game has been cancelled. It seems the specter of the demon COVID has reared its head.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)
