The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Southern North Dakota and Okiboji University are in the same conference.  It might be D4

Before the hand slap, I believe it's Okoboji.

Okoboji, it is.  Since my mom is from Spencer (barely a dozen miles south), I have many fond memories of Okoboji.

My wife and I (by sheer coincidence, since we had heard nothing about its expected demise) happened to be at the beloved old amusement park, Arnold's Park, on what was to be the last day ever.  Happily, though it had been allowed to deteriorate into total seediness, it really was beloved - preservationists outbid the intended developer, refurbished the park, and (at least as of a few years ago when we were last there), it is going strong and better than ever.

I was at a conference at the Okoboji Inn & Resort in Sept of 2004 and yes, the amusement park was still intact.  My wife has fond memories of that, since as a Davenport girl she went to summer camp at Okoboji and the amusement park was high on the list of things to do.

About as much fun as visiting campus at Okoboji University.

Mr. Ypsi

I 'applaud' the news that Arnold's Park yet lives! 8)

Is it true that Arnold, for whom the park is named, was All-American for six years at Okoboji University?

Johnnie Butler was on his way to becoming a D1 coach (two stints as assistant) and also worked in admin and was assist basketball at Carthage, but was drawn back to his inner city origin and had a genuine desire to help kids there.

Some years ago Johnnie suffered a severe stroke which threatened his life then, but also left him with what could have been a very bleak future.  Fortunately he was able to overcome most of the effects of the stroke and is doing very well today.  He has been back to Carthage for various functions and honors and continues to be an outstanding example of a student/athlete with humanitarian ideals.

I don't have dates and this won't even be in the right order, but IWU's non-conference games next year will be...

* @ UW-Whitewater Tipoff Tourney (vs Clarke)
* @ UW-Whitewater Tipoff Tourney (vs UW-W or ?)
* @ St. Xavier
* @ Olivet Nazarene
* @ DePauw tourney (vs Ohio Wesleyan)
* @ DePauw tourney (vs DePauw or ?)
* @ Hanover
* vs Illinois College
* vs Chicago
* vs Wash U

(Scott Trost has one game left to schedule.)

IWU will drive 5 hours to southern Indiana to face Hanover in a Division III game that "counts" and 2 1/2 hours to Greencastle to face Ohio Wesleyan in a game that does not.

Mr. Ypsi

Yikes!

Looks like yet another year of a top-ten SOS.

With his one open date, is he holding off deciding whether to schedule Florida or UCLA?

Actually, looks like a standard Titan schedule - tough.

Nice sked as usual. Another MWC team would be a good balance. Anyone decent in the IIAC sit within 200 miles?

North Central got an early commitment this week from Sycamore's 6'0" sharpshooting two-guard Reid Barringer. He averaged 25 ppg and almost 41 percent from beyond the arc as a senior for Sycamore, and was an 83 percent FT shooter. He made the IBCA Class AA All-State fourth team. He has a chance to be a really good player in the CCIW, and with the Cards losing both of their starting guards he may even get some varsity burn right away.

So with quality opponents like Whitewater, Hanover, Ohio Wes and the two UAA, along with two solid NAIA programs, are you saying that, along with Ill. College, the Titans need to schedule another below average MWC team like Knox to balance out the strong schedule? lol  ;D ;)  I think you are, since you obviously have a bias against them!  ;D

I don't think any of the IIAC teams are within 200 miles, Pat.  Heck, from Bloomington it's about 140 miles over to Augie's campus, which sits right on the Mississippi.

IWU's 2006-07 non-conference schedule is very rough considering this is a team that will be starting 4 new players.  Another 7 road games before league play...that was OK this season with a senior laden team - in fact I liked it - but that's going to be tough on next year's Titans.

Olivet Nazarene is coming off an NAIA D1 Elite 8 trip and returns all of their leading scorers I think.  St. Xavier also made the NAIA I tourney and will be tough as usual.  Next year, IWU may be glad those games do not count!
