Ron Rose and the Titans have landed Harrison Wilmsen, a 6-9 F from Priory HS in STL.

As SR - 23 pts, 12 reb; 54% FG. 1st Team Class 4 all-state.

Big, skilled post that was heavily recruited at scholarship levels for football (QB) and basketball.

I giggle each time we pick Wash U's pocket.

Not to cast aspersions on this young man at all, but you do have to wonder, this time of year, about how many of these decisions were made because they didn't get into a more selective school.

What a crappy thing to say about a D3 commit.

I specifically didn't say that about any particular commit.  I was addressing the "picking the pocket" comment.  The reality is, there's a lot of reasons kids end up at certain schools, and they're not always positive.  I was just trying to take the self-congratulation down a notch.  A lot of kids get their 1st choice school, a lot don't.  It's not always safe to assume.

Pretty sure the "picking Wash U's pocket" comment was made in jest...because the kid is from STL.  Same kind of comment, say, an Elmhurst fan would make when they get a recruit from Bloomington.

But whatever.  The non-UAA, non-NESCAC, etc D3 schools will just keep waiting for these recruits to fall to us because they don't get into those places.

And, just to be fair, this is also the time of year NESCAC schools announce recruits who couldn't get into the Ivies.  I suppose even Harvard and Stanford are somebody's second choice, right?

I'll tell you what, too - as the years go on, I'm less and less sure what exactly makes a student attractive to any given school.  We've got one senior in town here who was accepted to three Ivy League schools and rejected by UVA.  Diversity in admissions standards is probably a net positive, I suspect.

For the record, the 6-9 kid from STL that ended up slumming in the CCIW was not waiting on UAA schools to reject him.  He was deciding between D1 and D2 basketball and football opportunities.  For basketball he had some D1 PWO opportunities...in football (QB), mid-major D1s were on him.

I never assumed any different.  Although, I feel kinda bad we'll miss out on a 6'9" QB somewhere.  Tall guys throwing passes are always fun to watch!

I believe Murray State was the football option.  He is definitely a super tall QB...

I think I saw the 6'9" QB walking on campus the other day with Coach Rose . . . glad to hear the visit was successful.   He's tall for sure, could likely put on a few lbs. for CCIW play.

Congrats to Matt Leritz on All-Region first team.  Some great players, including Matt, coming back next season for the TITANS.  We will miss Charlie Bair . . . a fun guy to watch.  Mr. Heaton and the Wolfes to have their day?

Yes, it is true, even some folks do say "no" to Stanford and Harvard -- usually for Princeton or Yale.  :)

Looking forward to warmer Spring days settling in . . . a dusting of snow on the Quad today, when doing my walking.  The redbuds and the tulip trees with frosting . . .

Congrats to all the regional awardees from the CCIW.

I think the TITANS have found their QB for the next four years -- a true freshman, named SAGE, playing very well in this strange Springtime football season.  Might be tough for even a new 6'9" QB to break in now . . .

FWIW, I'm fairly sure that Williams was seriously recruiting Matt Leritz (who I think ended up being even better than the Ephs expected).

Yes, that was a big recruiting win for IWU.  Matt has turned into one of the elite bigs in Division III.

Those are fascinating stats. For me, it begs the question of "why?" Is Wash U intentionally focusing on Chicago vs. local? Are they failing to attract local? Is there a shortage of local talent? A combination of all these? Something else?

Well, you have to remember the WashU coach was at Oshkosh not long ago, and likely has been tracking Chicago area players for a while.  I suspect that concentration changes as Juckem gets more accustomed to the national scope now available to him.
