tied game at Tarble with 7.30 left, though I am turning it off because the Carthage announcer is driving me crazy with his inability to pounce Adom's name. (hint: it's not Adam)

Wheaton gets the win, but better work on the free throw shooting.

North Park 66
Earlham 63

Jordan Boyd: 16 pts
Izaiah Sanders: 14 pts
Jalen Boyd: 11 pts, 6 rebs
Gabe Johnson: 6 rebs

Boy, was this an ugly win. NPU used a 14-0 run to open up a 16-point lead in the first half, and it felt like a blowout was in the offing. But Earlham got the lead down to nine at the half and kept shaving a point or two off of the trading-baskets trend throughout the game, finally coming within a single point at several moments in the last four minutes. But NPU never coughed up the lead at any point in the game -- and, honestly, it wasn't for lack of trying to give it away. They threw bad pass after bad pass, and had a nightmare of a game at the line (8-19, .421) that kept squandering opportunities to regain some separation.

Fortunately, the Vikings managed to atone for their charity-stripe clankitude with some key final-minutes steals and a number of really big baskets by steady senior leader Izaiah Sanders. But if the Vikings play like this against a CCIW team -- any CCIW team -- they will get their hats handed to them.

Wheaton escapes Kenosha with a 65-64 win where they needed every second to put it away.

Adom (Ah-Dome) with 24 points to lead the Thunder along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists
Alioth posted yet another Double Double with 11 points and 12 rebounds

Eli Considine was a needed sparkplug on the defensive end as he was called upon to slow down Fillip Bulatovic who is a special basketball player.

Bulatovic had 21 points for Carthage with 12 rebounds and was three assists shy of a Triple Double with 7 assists

Firebird big man Anthony Bernero played very well in his first start posting 10 points and 5 rebounds. He also went down with a horrific ankle injury in the final minute of the game. It was cool to see Wheaton and Carthage come together to pray for Anthony (much the same as when Wheaton and North Central gathered to pray for Aiden Chang who suffered a similar injury in the 2018-2019 season). I absolutely hate to see players go down to injuries like that and pray that he gets the care he needs this evening and can return to the court as quickly and safely as possible. He is a promising young player.

I caught the final 0.7 seconds of the WC @ CC game, which consisted of a 50-foot inbounds pass by Carthage that, naturally, amounted to nothing, as Wheaton escaped with the come-from-behind win. But I had to laugh at Carthage PBP man John Weiser, who, before the ball was inbounded, intoned, "If you've got a rosary, use it. If you want to say a 'Hail Mary,' now's the time ...". John just does not care if he gets into trouble with the Lutherans who own Carthage. :D

Titan Q

Thoughts with Anthony Bernero...that did not look good.  Hope he is OK.

iwu70

IWU dominant over Chicago tonight, winning by 33.  Big lead out of the gate.

Noe 18
Yoder 17

Titans scoring mostly from the perimeter tonight, with some slashing, running the floor well.  IWU has so many weapons.  Good rebounding by Leritz and Mitchell.

Lambesis back in uniform and did play tonight, used for some minutes, but sparingly, not back starting yet.  Seems they are bringing him back slowly.

Chicago had a poor shooting night from three and really got down early on, never to recover.

CCIW play starts for IWU on Saturday at home vs. Carroll.

IWU'70

P.S.  The IWU women won by 50!  :)

Back from the Carthage game, it wasn't pretty, but Wheaton will be very happy to look back and realize they pulled out a game that Carthage had control of.

The fact that Wheaton shot less than 35% from the field, 25% from behind the arc and 50% at the free throw line and won is pretty amazing.

The key turning point was just under 3 minutes left and Carthage up 60 to 57.  Coming out of the time out, Wheaton got the ball to Alioth just behind the top of the key and he drained a three to tie it up.  He hadn't shot well all night so that was a huge take and make.  Carthage came down and Bulatovic got fouled and missed both.  Wheaton came down and scored to take a lead finally.

Bulatovic and Adom showed why they are two of the best in the conference tonight.   Carthage got a big lift from freshman, Colton Sigel, who scored 14 in the first half (scoreless after that).   As mentioned, Bernero went down with a bad injury with 18 seconds left.   It looked bad and the trainers came out right away and put a towel over his ankle.  He was having such a strong game too.   He has really come on since the first game of the year and was now starting and rightfully so.  He had a number of plays where he got a hand on the ball to tip it back to a teammate, grabbed some key rebounds and made some strong moves to the hole.  Was thinking if he could work on his quickness, he was going to be a really good player.  Wish him well and speedy recovery

Like I mentioned earlier, no Cook or Blake, but honestly, Carthage played really well without them.

Well there's your problem. If he wanted a miracle win I'm pretty sure you're supposed to sing "This Is the Feast."

That, or "A Mighty Fortress", which probably works even better for miraculous purposes if you sing it in the original German. ;)

Very sorry to hear about Anthony Bernero's injury. I sure hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

It was cool how Coach Schauer literally gathered both teams together in front of the Carthage bench and kneeled down for a prayer.  Even a couple of the referees joined in too.

On a lighter note, I would love to know how many steps Coach Schauer gets in during a game, he is constantly pacing the sideline from one end of the bench to the other.   I saw him sit down one time for literally 2 seconds and he was up pacing again.  He is pretty calm and cool, but he did have a few choice things to say tonight to the refs and had his fingered pointed at one of them about an inch from the ref's chest.

According to the box score there is no technical noted, but it sure looked like Steve got t'd up and Adom went to the line and shot two free throws.   Not sure what else could have happened.

At the Carthage - Wheaton game.  No Cook or Blake starting and no site of them warming up or on the bench.  Something seems odd.  Maybe someone can comment if they are listening to the stream.

What was odd was the Carthage announcer constantly describing the play of Nyameye ADAM.  ::)
