IWU men's game at Carthage off . . . postponed.  IWU has at least three players and most of the coaching staff positive.  IWU as a campus had 100 cases the first week back . . . and the positivity rate in McLean County is now a very scary 27%.  Almost 1400 cases in one day yesterday, in the broader community and hospitalization rising, and ICU capacity at 100%.  68 folks in the ICUs being treated for covid conditions.  Several deaths from covid announced each day.  This is serious and the Omicron variant is extremely contagious and widespread now in the community, including the campus community.

Seems the women's game at Carthage is on . . . no recent cases reported in the IWU women's team, though there were some earlier, now those players back.  Two players were in concussion protocols as well, from injuries out West in late December.

Covid is a dangerous virus and very scary for those who are at the greatest risk...  In general, not those playing, coaching, officiating, announcing and otherwise administering the games...  e.g. young, vaccinated, healthy BMI...  This is what the science says...

If a CCIW SA tests positive and completes his/her quarantine (at IWU, 10 days) they are considered ok for 90 days, don't have to test.

'21-22 will come down to when each school has its Covid run. You want it now...not March. (Usually you want a March run...this is different.)

And no one has any symptoms.

Lead Assistant Andy Etheridge was ready to lead the Titans today.

Millikin 64
North Park 48

Michael Osborne: 16 pts
Jalen Boyd: 12 pts
Adam Bulwa: 9 rebs
Jodan Boyd: 8 rebs
Karl Polk, Jr.: 7 rebs

Scott Gowan: 17 pts
Cole Laurence: 13 pts, 6 rebs
Calvin Fisher: 10 pts, 10 rebs

North Park's shooting matched the thermometer, as the Vikings were ice-cold from tipoff to buzzer. They shot .286/.250/.619, as even the easy shots were clanked consistently. Down by 15 in the first half, the Vikings fought back to get within five at the half, and they got the Big Blue lead down to one at 37-36 with 9:31 to go on a Jalen Boyd jumper. But MU responded with seven unanswered points, and thereupon began pushing the lead back out as their motion offense started to click and frustration set in for NPU.

Jordan Boyd was doubled-teamed with impugnity all day. The Vikings did nothing to make Millikin pay for it.

Izaiah Sanders was out again today, but North Park's malaise goes a lot deeper than his absence. Two double-digit losses on your home floor in the space of a week just won't fly. The Vikings are playing bad basketball at both ends of the floor, and they need to start getting some answers to that malaise in a hurry.

North Park played its ugliest game from what I have seen since a home loss to Blackburn in November 2017.

Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

IWU revised its Spectator Policy as well.  Check on the IWU sports website for details.

Looks so far like the MU game @IWU is on for Wedenesday 7 p.m., though IWU will likely be without several players.  Not sure about who will be back, and which members of the coaching staff will have returned by then.  Wednesday 7 p.m. at The Shirk.

As always, this year, stay tuned.  Things can change fast . . . must be tough for the players and the coaching staff to prepare for games with all this uncertainty, all these schedule changes, sometimes at a moment's notice.  Gonna be a strange season.
