I never felt a lack of respect toward Wabash by IWU -- I just saw people who *really* didn't want to talk about the game, and I was happy to just let them reflect on the ride, etc., and not ask a game-related question.

Randy Reinhardt of the Pantagraph did end up asking a question about the game, but can't begrudge that -- he was writing a game story, after all.

Can't blame them one bit for that. Your discretion was probably a good idea. I don't think that I would've asked a game-related question, either.

Reinhardt is the journalist to whom I referred in my previous post. He tweeted, "Wabash's Kellen Schreiber tackles Luke Yoder going up for shot, then intentionally trips over Yoder on the ground. This guy is unbelievable." Bob then retweeted it.

I know that everybody considers the Pantagraph to be the house organ for IWU and ISU, but that's still pretty unprofessional.

Watching the post-game conference right after the game, I felt for Coach Rose and how devastated he was.  Even so, I did expect him to at least congratulate Coach Brumett and Wabash on the win notwithstanding his disappointment.  But there really wasn't a word crediting how good a team Wabash was or how well they played.  My impression was disappointment along with a measure of lingering animosity for the chippiness of the game?

Coach Brumett on the other hand was more than complimentary about IWU and the program.  Much easier for the winner of course.

Strange brew.  :D
Somewhat surprising buzz filing the air today..............Seems Athletic Departments at both Wabash and IWU were burning up the phone lines today attempting to set up a home and home beginning next year in order that the rapidity developing love fest between the teams, might continue.  :o  ;)

The thing is, rather than intentionally tripping over Yoder, Schreiber wound up on the ground after being intentionally knocked down by Cory Noe. And not only did head organist Reinhardt inaccurately report the play, he failed to give Noe credit for the knockdown. Too bad, as that may have been the best thing Noe did for Wesleyan all night.

They already scrimmage each other.

That could prove interesting.

In the Friday night news conference, that scrimmage was described as being "chippy" -- so it was already interesting.
I think that the garden-variety Dead Ball Contact Technical on Noe was the right call. There were two officials literally right next to the two players when Noe shoved Schreiber to the floor. In fact, the baseline ref had Schreiber fall right into his shins. The two of them were in a better position than anybody, aside from Noe and Schreiber themselves, to assess the severity of Noe's contact.
Umm... NO! The Noe play fits the definition to a T of a Flagrant 2 Contact Technical Foul. It was an obvious non-basketball play that was excessive, severe, and/or extreme. In ALL non-replay capable basketball games, regardless of level/Division, there is an EXTREME aversion to ejecting a player unless it is so obvious that even Ray Charles can see that is the only option. You will go decades of watching D3 games and not see a player ejected for something other than throwing punches in a fight (even if you use the loosest possible definition of a "fight").

The dispassionate review via replay affords the game officials the proper info. and decision-making timeframe to administer the appropriate penalty. Suffice it to say that this exact play occurs in ANY of the NCAA D1 tourney's beginning tonight (NCAA, NIT, CBI, CIT), and that player will be ejected from the game without hesitation.

Both Wabash and IWU lose so many people so who knows what they look like next season when they play.  They are both going to be very different teams.

Funny how the IWU-homer (and others of his ilk) who left this forum and moved to Twitter has been engaging in the same type of behavior that he frowned upon here, over there.

Congrats to all the CCIW honorees in All-region, esp. to Matt Leritz as Regional Player of the Year.  He also just received Academic All-American.  A great student, a great athlete, a great season for Matt and the Titans, and a great career at IWU.  Thank you, Matt.  Pete Lambesis also on the All-Region team.

Good luck to Jon Baines and the Elmhurst team this weekend in Ft. Wayne.  Make the CCIW proud.

Actually, much, if not all, of the IWU starting lineup and regular rotation for next year shouldn't be to difficult to identify for anyone who regularly follows the CCIW. This probably isn't 100% right on, but I sense it will be pretty close.

1. Luke Yoder/Hakim Williams
2. Ryan Sroka/Lucas Heflin
3. Nick Roper/Connor Heaton
4. Cody Mitchell/Evan Schneider
5. Harrison Wilmsen/Grant Hardy

As to Wabash———-> I know nothing  :)

It wasn't "excessive, severe, and/or extreme" by any means. It was a running chest bump, almost certainly hard enough to knock Schreiber off balance, questionably hard enough to actually knock him down. (The uncertainty lies in Schreiber's obvious penchant for gamesmanship.) Again, there were two officials who were no more than a foot or two away from the incident when it happened. One of them actually had Schreiber fall into his shins. There was no need for replay; the two officials were so close to the two players that they could've actually reached out and stopped Noe from bumping Schreiber if they had so desired.

They made the right call. Noe got the punishment he deserved ... nothing more, nothing less.

I wouldn't know. Bob's just blocked me within the past few hours. I haven't tweeted anything, so he obviously lurks here on CCIW Chat and objects either to my pointing out that he was wrong about the Schreiber call (although I took pains to point out that he later admitted his mistake on Twitter), my pointing out that he was retweeting several pro-IWU rage tweets, or my calling out Randy Reinhardt for being unprofessional.

I'm sad about this. Bob and I have been friends for a very long time. I have a great deal of respect for him. He contributes to several things that make D3 men's basketball better for a lot of people across the country, and his Q-casts are the best addition to the D3 men's basketball landscape over the past couple of years. But I firmly believe in not hiding things from people, unless you've been specifically asked to keep quiet about them or you know that an innocent person will be compromised by your revelation. It's the whole reason why I choose to post here under my own name rather than use an alias. People know who I am, and, if they read this room for any length of time, they know what I do in terms of working for a D3 school's athletic department. I am answerable for everything I say (and everything I quote other people as saying), and I not only accept that level of accountability, I embrace it. I have nothing to hide, and if I make a mistake or if I step on toes that shouldn't be stepped on, I want to know about it so that I can apologize and make it right. It doesn't make me better than others, but I hope that it makes me more careful. That matters to me. Bob and I have different philosophies regarding transparency and candor, and that's fine. Different strokes for different folks. I'm not happy that it's come to this, though.

As for the wave of schadenfreude reverberating on this board in the wake of IWU's painful defeat ... well, count me out. I certainly have issues with a segment of the IWU fanbase, but a segment isn't everybody. The attitude of some Titans fans rubs me the wrong way, but there are also a number of people associated with that school that I really like, Bob being one of them. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes. At the end of the day, enjoying the suffering of others, no matter how much you think that they deserve that suffering, diminishes you rather than them. Regardless of whether or not you care about Wabash, there was absolutely nothing wrong with rooting against the Titans ... but, once they were beaten, why tap-dance on their grave?
