I know, I know, I make one of my increasingly infrequent appearances on the board yesterday and I'm back so soon?! I guess I'm just trying to do my part to fill the Q void. Now that we've (presumably) wrung every drop out of the NCC hiring situation and the Cal Tech admissions process, how about a different topic? Years ago, there was a pretty solid D2/D3/NAIA summer league that played out of Des Plaines just outside of Chicago. It died off and then resurrected out at Joy of the Game in Deerfield. That died off too, pre-Covid. Has anyone heard any talk of a similar type of league in the works for this summer? I could use a fix.

P.S.  By the way, thanks to all of you regular posters for your commitment to this board. It is one of my go-to's, in and out of season and I appreciate the level of discussion and depth of information and commitment.....and zeal.  ;D

Unfortunately, I don't have many details but I've heard some of the guys from various CCIW conference teams (and possibly other teams) have started informal games. Similar to the setup at Elmhurst in recent years. I've heard Wheaton, and I've heard Mondays. I'll try to get some more details.

Thanks for that, Mark. I have my son's high school summer league and live tournaments to keep me entertained but those only last through the end of June. Any other info you or anyone else comes across will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it's certainly not the crime of the century, but a little investigating reveals a bit of clandestine activity may have recently occurred within the confines of King Arena.  8-)
Authorities at Wheaton indicate the gym is supposed to be closed to anyone other than Wheaton students and staff until August 1st. Should anyone other than a member of the immediate Wheaton family be found within the confines prior to then, they will be asked to vacate the premises forthwith.  :D

Wheaton is undergoing major utilities work - a lot of the campus is dug up including in front of King.  They probably want as few non-essential folks around as possible.

However, since Head Coach Schauer is also Interim AD now . . . perhaps exceptions are being made.

I can guarantee no such exceptions are in the works as the decree delineated above came from said Interim AD.   :D

NCC RECRUIT

After fully considering several options including a full scholarship offer from JUCO Carl Sandburg, a partial offer from D2 Lewis, as well as interest from several other D3s, 6'1" SG Ben Ahmer of Huntley IL HS has chosen North Central.

In leading his team to a 27-6 finish this past season Ben was both a first team All-Conference, and first team All-Area player. Along the way, he averaged 14.0 PPG, 3.1 APG, and 4.6 RPG. Ben also established a new single season record with 85 three point shots made.

Todd Kelly, former head coach at IIT who was a recent finalist for the North Central job, has accepted the Head Coach position at NCCAA member Dallas Christian College.

Carthage Firebirds 2022-2023 schedule.

Some turnover in the nonconference opponents.

They need to add one more game. Only 24 so far.

12 or so of IWU's '22-23 team will travel to Greece in August, playing 3-4 exhibition games and seeing the sites.  Leritz, Lambesis and Noe are gone . . . with Leritz and Lambesis continuing to play basketball with their additional pandemic year of eligibility -- Leritz in MA. and Lambesis in TN.  Yoder transferring to a D1 option in South Dakota.  The Titans will look different for sure . . .  though likely Heflen, Sroka, Roper, Mitchell and Wilmsen all in the starting role mix.   Others with good experience still around . . . and a seven-eight person new class coming in.  Should be another good year for the TITANS.

Titans open November 12-13 with the Sikma Invitational at The Shirk, with Yeshiva, Webster and WI-Stevens Point in town.

I understand Garrett Horner, second leading scorer for Carthage last season, has had it, and has left both the team and the College after two years. He will apparently attend College of DuPage JUCO in Glen Ellyn, IL next year. Glen Ellyn is immediately east of Wheaton where he attended high school.

Greek Tragedy

Has anyone posted all the recruits for each school lately? I haven't been on too much, not sure if I missed it. Thanks in advance.

I guess it is going to take two outsiders to pick-up the slack.

Millikin has a 2022-2023 roster posted which includes two transfers from then-Division II Lindenwood.  Coach Soderberg lived and played most of his prep and college career in St. Charles and at Lindenwood.

Soderberg also adds three St. Louis area freshmen, not surprisingly.

Is Millikin a dark horse candidate to win the CCIW after going 14-12, 9-7 with a couple more near-misses?  Calvin Fischer will be missed, assuming that he has wrapped up his career.

The Big Blue get another shot at Washington University at a game listed as being played in St. Louis for the second straight season.
