Yes, it would be a pretty big surprise if the western Vikings aren't a better team this season. While the center position is a dying breed in a D3 basketball, as well as any other level, Augie has one of the best big man in the country in Center, Dan Carr.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

No specifics yet, but look for North Central to be newly attired this season.
One thing that seems likely is that even though the shade of the Cards road unis for the last umteen years hasn't exactly been what can be considered Cardinal red, any new road outfits will most likely continue to be the same shade of "red" we've grow accustomed to.
Something possible is the introduction of a third alternative color uniform. As with any expenditure relative to D3 athletics, cost on top of two other sets of new uniforms will be the primary deciding factor.

Can't stand the maroon uniforms!  I was hoping that would be flushed with a new coach.

While you would think the head coach's opinion would carry as much, if not more, weight than any other factor in the decision making process, it seems such is not the case. For some mysterious reason that not even a trained investigator has been able to discover, it seems that maroon, or whatever the color of the NCC road unis is called, it has become something akin to a requirement when a new set is ordered. That's the way it was last time. Besides, Anthony might like that color—I haven't talked to him about it. Right now, it's just hoped that the money for at least a new home and road set will be appropriated/approved no matter if the road color changes or not. Also, as previously mentioned, a third/alternative set would be a bonus.

I've gotten a few questions recently about whether last season's #6 scorer in the country Matt Helwig, who was listed as a senior last year, would be returning to NCC, and playing this year. Unless some unpredictable miracle occurs prior to the start of the season, the answer is yes!

I thought for sure he was out of eligibility.

I believe he played one year while in Jr College. This will be his 4th year at NCC, wherein he will be playing his extra Covid year this season.

But he was in school at the JUCO two years, right? At least, that was my impression. An enrolled year counts, even if you don't play. Normally 4 in 5, but now 5 in 6 because of COVID.

If this is his 6th year of college, he's probably out of eligibility, but again, I don't know for sure. That was just my understanding; I'd be happy to be mistaken. It would be great to see him play some more.

When Matt first came to NCC, I remember hearing something about;
1. There was a year since HS that he didn't go to school.
2. He did attend JUCO for 2 yrs but only played for one.
3. He might have more eligibility remaining than it appeared, and the question was going to be determined by the proper NCAA authorities.
Nobody really knew details, and over time the questions just kind of faded away.

At the conclusion of last season, I was told by more than one person that should know that he'd be playing this year.
I think it's a safe bet that he won't be playing if doing so is in violation of any rules and hadn't been fully checked out and approved. That just isn't something that's going to happen.
He IS playing with the guys in open gym, and I highly doubt he'd be doing so if he wasn't going to be playing this year.

He is absolutely playing this year and well within the NCAA regulations.  Slow days on these boards apparently.  ::)

But you can understand why some may question whether or not he is eligible.  He graduated from high school back in 2016.  I have no problem with students charting their own course (i.e. gap years), but his course is unusual for sure.

Glad to hear it.  Figuring out eligibility for a lot of these transfers has been the toughest part of the last couple years.  Of course, we'll have to wait unto October to really know who's back for sure across the country.  I'm sure there will be surprises!

Unusual for sure, but as I said above he wouldn't be playing unless everything was above board with all pertinent information having been submitted to the NCAA who confirmed his eligibility for the coming season.

In terms of Helwig being a student-athlete, I wonder how many academic credits he has earned since leaving HS.  Since a student must be a FT student while playing a sport, and hoops covers both fall and spring semesters, how many times has he changed his major without earning an undergraduate degree?

Can't he just have multiple undergraduate degrees?

Can't we just be happy for him and say, "Welcome back."?
