So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Wow, NCC roster at 29 players.   Talk about playing time issues . . .  :)

Sure hope there's some kind of JV schedule for these teams with robust numbers on their rosters.

This isn't all that unusual. NCC dresses 16 on a nightly basis (hence all the guys without assigned numbers) and most of the rest will get JV reps.

While Todd Raridon regularly had 16 players dress for varsity games during his long tenure, NCC's new top man Anthony Figueroa's normal policy is that the varsity roster consists of 15 players which is the number that will apparently dress, at least initially, for varsity games. However, I believe that when the box of new unis was opened it contained not 15, but 16 uniforms, as previously. Accordingly, it appears the possibility of adding another player to the roster at a later date exists. And, said addition might involve continued rehab/conditioning and final clearance.

It seems 12 games are scheduled on the JV level with a degree of hopefulness that this number might increase along the way.

* In the CCIW, NCC has JV games scheduled with Carroll, North Park, Wheaton, and Augie.

Congrats to Matt Helwig (NCC/Third Team) and Dan Carr (Augustana/Fourth Team) on pre-season All-American honors.

Interesting in looking at the first week of the CCIW schedule, that one team plays three CCIW opponents -- three right in a row.

Whitman will give a good read on a third of the league -- they play at Carthage on Wednesday, at Carroll on Friday and North Cental (at Carroll in a neutral court game) on Saturday.

Seems the expectation is that North Central will be a top of the league team, Carthage a mid-pack and Carroll a lower third CCIW team.  Should get a read to some degree on how they look relative to each other with a common opponent.

Since Carroll is hosting this weekend (Carroll and North Central each play Whitman and Dubuque -- great tournament by the way), will get to see North Central in person this weekend as well.  Looking forward to watching Matt Helwig light it up.

Yep. Van Male is definitely the place you want to be this weekend if you want to start previewing the league, since you get a twofer there.

Carthage roster is finally up - https://athletics.carthage.edu/sports/mens-basketball/roster?path=mbball

31 players listed, more than I have ever seen before.   Big freshman class and a few transfers.   Lost Horner which we knew about, but also Kostes is not listed on this roster.  He was getting some good minutes as the season went on last year.

Looks like a few good newcomers, especially the kid from Peoria.  Time will tell.

It's finally here: Opening night of the 2022-23 season for the CCIW.

Just one game on tap for opening night, and that's UW-Whitewater @ Augustana. You can watch it here, and have the bonus of listening to the best two-man broadcast team in D3 men's basketball in Chris Ford and Dan Sand.

Looks like a doubleheader night.
Watching the Augie-UWW game on the computer, while watching election results on TV, and hoping I don't have to get drunk.

I rarely ever side with the Illinois Western fans, but when it comes to two-man teams, this point is debatable...

Eric Stock and Joel Swanson are outstanding. They're the epitome of professionalism, and I'm not badmouthing them in the slightest. IWU is really lucky to have them calling men's basketball games for the Titans. But Chris and Dan are just as thorough, just as knowledgeable about the game, and just as informed about the two teams they're calling. If anything, from the knowledge point of view, Chris and Dan have the edge ... because Dan is a walking encyclopedia of Augustana men's basketball. He could probably tell you the name of Maxwell Artis's dentist, or Drew Carstens' favorite flavor of ice cream, and if I'm ever in a life-or-death crisis in which I absolutely have to know who was leading at halftime in the 1973 NAIA Final Four consolation game between Augustana and Slippery Rock, I know who I'm contacting.

The difference is that they have fun. They have great banter, and it doesn't get in the way of their game call at all. When I listen to them it makes me nostalgic for the days when Rob Berki was my broadcast partner for NPU games. Within bounds, that kind of light-hearted chemistry really adds something to a broadcast. It reminds you that you're watching a game, after all -- and with those guys it feels like you're watching it with a couple of old friends.

One of these days, I am going to make that Sagerisms thread...

UWW was much more aggressive than Augie in attacking the basket in the second half, and it paid off for the Cheeseheads via a very productive night at the free-throw line. The final total at the stripe was 28-36 (.778) for the Warhawks, versus only 15-24 (.625) for Augie. That's really where UWW won it.

Mr. Double-Double picked up right where he left off last season, as Daniel Carr finished the night with 32 and 16 in 30 minutes of action. Matt Hanushewsky scored a free throw in the final moments to finish with 10, as he was the only other Rock Islander to break double figures. Some of the Augie players really don't look very eager to shoot, as I saw a lot of passed-up open looks this evening -- even from Nic Giliberto. You can't let the big fella do all of your work for you.

Looks like Dan Carr is going to have a monster season.
