QuoteThe Pacers draw pretty well in general, but if the opponent is the pathetic Clippers (often considered the worst run franchise in all of pro sports), I'm sure the 'undercard' was added in hopes of SOMEBODY showing up!

The Earlham-DePauw game may outdraw a game against the Clippers!

Looks like the Pacers are relying on DIII to boost their attendance - Tri-State will be playing Rose-Hulman on 12/30 prior to the Pacers game with Toronto.

The Celtics used to hold undercards in the old Garden back in the 70's.  I know they drew well.  They used to let the students sit behind each basket for the undercard and stay for the NBA game, that must have been a great experience.

FDF,

You didn't attach my name to the quatation - that constitutes plagiarism!  I'm afraid I'm going to have to flunk you, and turn your name over to the Dean of Students! :o ;)

Actually, hello again - we met in Wheaton last December (when I was still cabonney).  (At least I think we did - I met so many posters for the first time that weekend ...)

My sincerest appologies for the plagerism - but then I went to an NAIA school, so you'll have to forgive me  ???

Yes, I remember meeting you - standing in line for popcorn if I remember correctly - and you'll always be cabonney to me.

Are you planning on traveling to Holland to watch the challenge this year (and get a chance to see the best DIII facility on the planet)?

Um... I'm all for sentimentality, but you should around you FDF, there might be a line down there you've just crossed.

Greek Tragedy

The defending D3 national champions, Stevens Point Pointers, played Marquette down at the Bradley Center last year.  I heard tickets were hard to come by.  I think Marquette was a Final Four participant the previous year too.  And no, that game was not an undercard to a Bucks game.  So, I think there has to be a qualifier or something when it's a double-header.  ;D

OS, I think the attendence for that game was about 8000-9000... ok, I checked, it was 7957.

Titan Q mentioned rebounding...  MU outreb'd Point 42-31 and that was key.  If MU had shot more than 13/21 from the FT line, then the margin (obviously) would have been better, but the only other major difference in the stats were assists (17 vs. 10) and fg % (50% vs. 35%).

If ya care to look yourselves, here's the box score:

I'm planning on listening to this one tonight.  I think IWU will have a good showing and it should be an entertaining game to listen to regardless.

EDIT:
After reading some of the articles that Q posted last page, I read this:

Dauksas said the Titans want to prove they are "not just a good Division III team but a good college basketball team. U of I is going to be heavily favored, but we're out to gain some respect from this game.

"Getting those people to walk away and say 'man, Illinois Wesleyan can play some basketball.' That's definitely one of our main goals here."

This could almost be a verbatim quote from some of Nick Bennett's words last year after the MU/UWSP game:

"It's nice to compete with them," Nick Bennett said. "We don't want to be known as a good Division III basketball team, we want to be known as a good college basketball team."

This shows to me the focus and goals of IWU, and I think that, while they may not be as big, quick, or athletic as Illinois, they will play with heart and do the D3 nation proud.

To the best of my knowledge (and the claims on both the Hope and Calvin websites) it is THE record for DIII.

On behalf of Flying Dutch Fan, I must dispute the claim that an unattributed quote constitutes plagiarism. He clearly identified said quote as a quote, thereby quelling any notion that he was its (said quote's) originator.   ;)

41-36 in the second half, Illinois leads.  U of I lead by 5ish (?) at the half.  I'm not sure how much, my stream went out for all of halftime.

Edit: thanks, I wasn't sure what the time was.

Now 41-38

Tied for a second, now 43-41   14:00ish

The radio stream from Bloomington is horrible.  I hear Q's voice on and off but the stream keeps breaking up.

If Wesleyan keeps this game within 15, it is huge!
