I sure hope that the IWU position gets resolved in the near future...and if it goes to Tharpe, then we can move all the speculation for the next couple of months over to the MWC board! lol.  :D

As Dave Kanackis once told me in Burgh Hall, "Coach, I have no knowledge."  Truer words were never spoken.

Somehow April announces her karma gift to me and I lose two points?  Maybe her karma just isn't something to be desired?
I guess not. :'(

Do the cookies violate the NCAA policy on gifts to recruits?
Quote from: diehardfan on May 09, 2006, 11:52:20 PMMy idea of sending cookies to recruits (which you know I would have done!) got shot down as being a violation of NCAA rules.  :-X :'(
I'm not totally sure that they would be, but it makes sense that it would be. When I ran the idea by one of the wheaton assistants a few years back I got a "I'm not so sure it's a great idea to try" response.

Hey, you're the one who gets the urge to smite people when they publically mention that they're giving someone karma.  :P :-* ;)

I think April could send cookies to incoming basketball recruits if she also sent them to prospective student non-athletes. Otherwise it's an improper benefit.

"I am not pursuing the Illinois Wesleyan job," said Raridon, who declined additional comment.

These are usually the words used right before announcing they are leaving for the new job.  They are right out of the Larry Brown job opening advice book.

hmmmmm, lol.... (laughs at her self for pondering the idea, and then goes ahead and does it anyway) does it have to be proportional by percent?

Dennis,

I don't remember the exact line but it was some sort of question that showed his lack of knowledge of what to do on the football field.  Imagine that!

Whatever it was, it was as accurate to the individual as the "no knowledge" quote.

I tried to find that line everywhere.  Since I don't know what Dave or the character Goon #1 looks like, I can't even go through the movie and figure it out.

I'm not too surprised.  He's from the area (Appleton is a lot closer to Sheboygan than Bloomington), he probably got a pay raise and he's probably considered a god at Lawrence, something he would never be at IWU.

I wonder if the length of the process is becoming an issue with guys who aren't confortable leaving their programs twisting in the wind ...

If that's the case, it shows a lot of class on their part!  :)

From what I hear, the biggest issue for Raridon and Tharp (beyond personal/family situations even) is staffing.  Dennie Bridges is too cheap to provide a full-time assistant coach, like most successful programs have.  Tharp has one at Lawrence, Raridon at NCC.  In the CCIW there is John Baines at Elmhurst, Tom Jesse at Augustana, etc.  (Guys that have other duties at the school, but mainly are the basketball asst coach.)  I think everyone but IWU has one.

At IWU you get Dennis Martel, the head baseball coach, as your assistant.  Martel does not recruit and he even has to miss playoff games because by that time he has to coach his baseball team.  IWU has the two good volunteer guys in Steinbrook and Hudson, but they are just that - volunteer.

Now, I have heard all along that down deep Bridges was learning towards hiring someone with green blood who would stay forever (Rose or Baines), but the simple fact is that Bridges lost Raridon and Tharp because of his refusal to get with the times and give IWU a full-time assistant.  You'd think the "best job in Division 3" (Bridges' words) would merit a full-time asst, right?

We'll see how IWU competes as the years go on.
