So this means that for the rest of his life, Adam Dauksas can hold the claim that he held U of I's All-American point guard and possibly future NBA'er to only 8 points while scorig 13 himself right?  If it were me, my future grandkids would definitely hear the story of how I put Dee Brown in his place.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

New poster here, but I wanted to put up the article that was on SI.com about the UofI-IWU game.....pretty cool to see IWU mentioned on Sports Illustrated's website.  Sounds like they did the school and D3 proud.  Great job guys!!

Greg - I'll be real interested to hear how the scrimmage with UWW goes.  I remember hearing about the debacle last year, and I hope it isn't a repeat.  I imagine this year's team will be a little more cohesive, a little more disciplined than last years team.

Also, congrats to IWU on an impressive game against U of I.  From what I heard through my brother who was on the phone w/ Brian Nussbaum, the Titans should've been close to tied at least at halftime, but just didn't make their freethrows.  It also sounds like if it wasn't for the Titans' big men foul trouble they could've kept the game close for all 40 minutes, instead of the first 30.  It sounds as though the absence of Cory Jones hurt more than some people imagined (although there were plenty who saw it being a big hurdle).  I couldn't be more impressed with Adam Dauksas, holding the pre-season Big -10 MVP to 8 points (single digits in all categories) is very impressive.  I was told that he and Dee were going one on one a number of times, and Adam more than held his own.

Now that the IWU - U of I game is over, I can focus my attentions over to the North Park - Wheaton Socer game Saturday.  My only question is why are they playing at Wheaton, they are the 3 seed, shouldn't it be at North Park?  Or does it have something to do with the Wheaton women being the 1 seed?  Regardless, it would be amazing to beat Wheaton for the 3rd time in a row on their home field.  I missed the game last year because I was playing frisbee in Berea, Kentucky, and I'm sad I'll be missing the game this year as well.  With luck they'll be just as strong again next year.  Good luck North Park soccer.

TJCunningsfan - as discussed last year CCIW Soccer is played with sole intention of guaranteeing that Wheaton gets into the NCAA tournament.

All other sane reasoning: Like conference champion getting the automatic bid to the NCAA TOurnament or Number One seed hosting the conference championship game if they are still in the tournament, aside.  CCIW Soccer is played with the sole intention of guaranteeing that Wheaton gets into the NCAA tournament

(Much like the Big Ten football season is played to guarantee that Michigan plays Ohio State for the conference championship the last game of the regular season - if NOT Lloyd Carr gets to run out to midfield to argue with the game officials on every other play - oops, he already does that.)   ???

Congrats to the Titans on a nice game at UI.   :)

My understanding is the odd number years (2003, 2005, 2007...), the finals game of the tourney for both men and women is played at the highest seeded women's team still playing and this year it's the Wheaton women's team (no real surprise). In the even number years (2002, 2004, 2006...) the final game is played at the highest remaining men's seed.

Just unfortunately for the NPU men.  However, considering they've played well at Wheaton the last 2 games, maybe it's not so bad.

Yes, the championship games of CCIW soccer alternate between the highest remaining men's and women's seeds in alternating years.  If this were last year, the games would be at North Park where they belong!

After the great conference season NP soccer has had, securing the #1 seed, it is dissapointing that the automatic bid comes down to the last game of the season AT the #3 seed's home field.   The NCAA bid is on a points system, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.  Going into Saturday, NP has 18 points and Wheaton has 15.  A win or tie, and NP is in.  A loss, Wheaton gets 18 points and wins the tiebreaker (latest head-to-head result; why that is the tiebreaker is beyond me).

I'd say there was easily 500-700 fans at the NP game on Wednesday, so having the final at home would have been huge.  Oh well, NP fans travel well (to Wheaton) so I am expecting the NP fans will be louder (though not larger) than the Wheaton contingent.  Beating Wheaton 3 times in a row is a tough task, but they are up to it.  Good luck.

...Now back to your regularly scheduled basketball program...

CHAMPAIGN - Before the game, Bruce Weber said he had "scripted minutes" for his players in Thursday's exhibition opener. The University of Illinois basketball coach wanted everyone to get playing time with different groups.

Nowhere in Weber's script was it written that Division III Illinois Wesleyan would be tied with the Illini with less than 15 minutes left at the Assembly Hall.

A nice night for the CCIW and D3.  Great job, Titans!

Regarding soccer, go to the bottom of the page.  Conference champ hosts. I see no ambiguity or any reference to even/odd years. NP tied for first, Wheaton finished third, and the latter hosts?   Since I can't find an email to the league commissioner, I'll contact the NPU AD for clarification.

A friend in Peoria just e.mailed this link to me.  Quite a flattering story for the IWU basketball program...

It seems as though the CCIW has some issues to address concerning some of the rules within the Soccer program.  Its probably something that has been a non-issue in the past because Wheaton was so dominant.  I think it's pretty clear that is changing, and, at the very least there are a solid 4 or 5 schools that have a legimate shot in the future of winning the conference.  I think its something the CCIW seriously has to start looking at.

Just out of curiosity can the game Saturday end in a tie, or does there have to be a winner?

Gotberg - that is the biggest load of crap I've ever read and you should be ashamed for writing it.  Typical Wheatie reasoning.  "So unfortuneate for you, North Park, you won the Conference title but you can't go to the tournament.  So unfortuneate for you North Park, you won the regular season title, but you can't host the conference chajpionship game."  A bunch of self-righteous bull droppings.

Actually, I'm a NPU grad and I was at Wednesday's NPU game and will be at Wheaton Saturday.  Read the following and it contains the details:  http://www.cciw.org/pdf/sports_guides/Soccer(M-W)SportsGuide.pdf

I got my reply from the AD.  He wrote, "The tournament championship site alternates between the highest surviving seed on the men's side [Wheaton 2004] and the highest surviving seed on the women's side [Wheaton 2005]. Unfortunately for North Park, this year's site is determined by the women's top surviving seed. Given Wheaton's history in men's and women's soccer they would have theoretically hosted every year except this year."
