Shame on all of you for ruining Dennis' paranoia with some silly rules that apparently the rest of the conference had no vote on.  Good rule or bad, if it is there it has to be followed.

It's stuff like this that continues to make orange and navy blue the least-liked color scheme on the NPU campus.

Not that Parkers need anything new to fuel their seething dislike of that school in DuPage County whose name I cannot bring myself to type right now. The fact that it's legitimized by the conference's ridiculous soccer rules, rather than representing a demonstrable railroading of the CCIW by that formerly-dominant soccer school in DuPage County, only serves to make it more galling. Few things in life rankle more than an unjust and arbitrary rule that nevertheless must be observed.

April, I know you're reading this. All I can say is: I hope that now you're beginning to understand the reception you got in that classroom at NPU a couple of years ago.  :D

Regarding the soccer outrage, the funny thing is that part of the reason that a conference soccer tournament exists is that it was supposed to help the other schools get past Wheaton.  Now it comes back to haunt them.

I do agree though, that North Park is getting shafted, that the game should be played at the top seed's field.  However, having worked in the SID, I also realize that putting both men and women at one site greatly facilitates logistics for the schools involved.

Paul, your insistence upon using logic, reason, and established facts in the face of my spleen-venting is only making me madder.  :'(

See, this part I don't get. I figured that the CCIW's policy of holding the two soccer championship games in tandem had to somehow be based on logistics. But, come on, what sort of logistics are we talking about here? Granted, I'm a tyro when it comes to soccer, but unless I'm overlooking something it doesn't appear to me that setting up a soccer field for a game is some sort of grand engineering feat. You pull the goals out of the equipment shed and set them up; you plant the flags in the corners of the field; and you alert your event staff (scoreboard operator, trainers, work-study students who chase the ball when it goes out of bounds, etc.). What extra sort of colossal undertaking is required of the league if they have the men's championship game at one school and the women's championship game at another?

Sorry about that.  Next time I'll try to make stuff up, then use ranting and raving red herring and strawman arguments.

The logistics thing isn't a great excuse.  I was thinking how tough it would be for a SID to cover two soccer games, a football game, and maybe volleyball and who knows what else on the same day at disparate locations.  But that's admittedly not all that strong a point.  The good of the players and what they earned over the course of the season should come first.

I've been trying to think through the financial aspect.  My first thought was that attendance would be higher if one ticket would get you into two games.  But the more I think about it, the more it seems that a greater number of people would attend two separate games if they're both at the top seed's field.  But this year's title games were played thusly, the Wheaton contingent would be divided.  So maybe not.

From a fan's perspective, I do like that the two games are at one place.  I just don't know how to determine where that one site should be.  Maybe there should be a mid-season all-star game to figure it out.

Anyone, who calls themselves a Christian, should be ashamed that this perversion of sportsmanship is being condoned by the self-anointed keepers of Christian righteousness.

Soccer's still just a game, right?

Holy Hell, Batman, I agree with Sager !!!

This is a sad, sad day for anyone from Wheaton

And, based upon Dennis's first sentence, a strange, strange day for anyone from CCIW Chat.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on November 04, 2005, 06:22:07 PMIt just really stinks, and no sugar-coated jokes by the former Wheaton assistant coach living in Massachusetts is going to make it right.

Hear, hear. We demand that the former Wheaton assistant coach living in Massachusetts make his underling, the other former Wheaton assistant coach living in Massachusetts, supply the sugar-coated jokes instead. Schauer has a lighter touch, and he won't go for the cheap laugh with cracks about Dennis's paranoia and/or chins.

Good. I just wrote off your attempt to steer this into rational debate as rustiness caused by your lengthy CCIW Chat sabbatical.  ;D

Sure, Pat. Let's hold the game a 15-minute trip down Naperville Road from the Wheaton campus. Why not hold it at Wheaton North High School instead? That sounds like a nice, neutral site, too.  ;)

Is there maybe a soccer-ball-shaped full moon out there in CCIW-land? I can't think of any other explanation for such lunacy ....

At least there is ONE consolation in the soccer 'abomination' - Wheaton has one helluva facility!  Hiker Jim gave me a tour last December - it sure puts d1 Eastern Michigan's facility to shame!  I've never seen any of the other CCIW 'pitches' - anyone else got something like that?

And, yes, David, I believe that Greg and Dennis publicly agreeing on anything IS a sign of the apocalypse! :o  (And EVERYONE supporting the Titans is no doubt sign #2!)
