Employment Opportunities - Men's Assistant Basketball Coach

Responsibilities
This is a ten-month staff position. The Assistant Basketball Coach reports to the Head Basketball Coach for basketball responsibilities and to the Director of Athletics for other assigned duties.

Duties
  1.  Assist the Head Basketball Coach in planning team practice sessions, in travel preparations, transportation arrangements and the ordering of team equipment.
  2.  Present sport techniques at practices and attend each session.
  3.  Assist with home game facility and game-day preparations.
  4.  Recruit potential students under the direction of the Head Basketball Coach.
  5.  Disciple and mentor student athletes.
  6.  Model Christian leadership.
  7.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  1.  Master's degree or equivalent.
  2.  Three year's experience in coaching basketball and related administrative experience.
  3.  Playing experience at the collge level.

I find this interesting, because I was under the impression that the position was not originally a full time position, as Coach Ferguson (may he rest in peace :D) was also the intramurals director. Maybe that could included in the "other duties as assigned" statement, but who really knows.

I guess I'm just glad to know that they're looking for someone. If someone who in the area and who is closer to the program could keep us updated on what actually happens, I would be really grateful! :)

On a different note, baseball is a funny game (though sometimes one doesn't end up laughing).

After the White Sox DESTROYED Cardinal pitching for 40 hits and 33 runs the last two games, Cardinal rookie Anthony Reyes threw a complete game 1-hitter - and lost 1-0.

Life just ain't fair! :(

Did you take Prick 101 or Advanced Prick as an undergrad ?

I'm sure you can fill us in on the syllabi for both -- let us know.

I thought you were the dean of the college.

Which is more gratifying (irritating): the White Sox sweeping the Cardinals, or vice versa?  (i.e., are your antipathies stronger for a division rival or a city rival?)

Anthony Reyes is a lot better than Mark Mulder and Jason Marquis.

Please tell the Cardinals this, because I have been holding young Reyes on my keeper-league fantasy team for two years now.

I've always wanted to work at Wheaton.

Will you give me a reference, April?

How about you Hiker Jim or maybe PCarr?

Let's see at Wheaton I know:

Ed Coray, Harve Chrouser, George Olson - I met V. Raymond Edman once.

Hmmmmmm ?!?

I can't. lack of college basketball playing experience aside, I'm really not sure how well you could do number 6. It would be difficult to pick someone more different from Coach Ferguson than you.... especially in reference to the number of chins you two have. :p

I am seriously impressed, however, that you met our Edman, our former president who dropped dead instantly on the stage while giving a sermon in chapel on eternity. I always wished I could have met the man who had a heart like that, that was so dear to God that he just couldn't wait to take him home.

Though I guess I did get to meet Will, and God wanted him home so badly he didn't even make it to a quarter century. :)

Nicely said, Mr. Sager.

Anthony Reyes is a lot better than Mark Mulder and Jason Marquis.

Don Sutton or Rick Sutcliffe could come down from the TV booth and be a lot better than Mark Mulder and his 6.09 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. And that goes for Sutcliffe even when he's drunk.

The trade that sent Danny Haren, Kiko Calero, and Daric Barton to the A's in exchange for Mulder is beginning to look like one of the worst deals that the majors have seen in years. Billy Beane took St. Louis GM Walt Jocketty to the cleaners on that one.

That's easy, Chuck. Any Cubs fan worth his salt will root for the White Sox against the Cardinals. The White Sox are not a National League Central team, nor are they the archrivals of the Cubs. Cubs Nation would root for hell's minions if they were playing the Cardinals (which, of course, would never happen, since Lucifer is a Cards fan. Why do you think they wear red, anyway?).

The White Sox can keep right on winning for all I care, as long as it means that Ozzie Guillen will continue to enlighten us with his wit and wisdom.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on June 22, 2006, 09:27:35 AMOne thing is for sure - if any wheaton men's soccer players lurk on these pages they certainly can accumulate a lot of lockerroom bulletin-board material.

And the odds of that being the case is ... well, let's just say that I'm not holding my breath on this one.

A lot of assistant jobs have "other duties" assigned to fill out a full-time position, as do many head coaching jobs.  Usually, a job that is full-time either refers to having all duties within the department.  There is also the term "full-time presence" where someone may have part of their job rest in another department at the institution.

Our men's basketball assistant works in our Center for Christian Studies as an academic liaison, and our men's assistant soccer coach works as the Fitness Director at the college.

I'll take Francisco Liriano, thank you.

Now that is the worst baseball* trade in my lifetime.  AJ Pierzynski and cash for Liriano, closer Joe Nathan, and Boof Bonser.  AJ spent one year in San Fran while Nathan has been to several All-Star contests since the trade.  Liriano, coupled with Johan Cytana, make the best 1-2 starting combo in baseball.  Boof Bonser is expected to become a major league starting pitcher.

I believe the position has been filled within by Nate Frank.  I heard that a month ago from a couple wheatonites that are close to the program.  It would makes sense to try to fill that spot within, as he's been there for 4 years.  I'm sure that Owen Handy would be the next choice if Frank didn't or doesn't take it.  They both have done a solid job and are quality people.

Wow!  That's precision in a job description.

It's pretty standard, though, in the job descriptions I've seen.
