Instead of posting about CCIW players from 20+ years ago, how about in the last 11 years. So here's some completely useless CCIW trivia:  In looking at the 94/95 IWU media guide, I discovered that the 94/95 IWU roster had 3 future MOPs, Chris Simich (Jr.)-1995; Bryan Crabtree (Soph.)-1997; and Brent Niebrugge (Fr.)-1998. In looking at the list of league MOPs, it appears that the 94/95 IWU team is the only one in league history to be able to make that claim. There have been several teams with 2 MOPs. If I'm wrong and if anyone cares, please correct me. Obviously as the summer gets hotter and longer, I've got too much time on my hands. Sorry to those who don't care.

I believe that those three players (Simich, Crabtree, and Niebrugge) also played together in the '95-96 season. So that would make two teams that had three conference MOP's on them.

I might be mistaken, but I believe that the '93-94 Titan team had three CCIW MOPs with Lipic added to Simich and Crabtree.

All in all, this list, and the player's accomplishments, if nothing else, show again that the Wheaton Coaches are consistantly able to recruit good kids, good players and good students all at the same time and go to great lengths to find them all over the country.

April, thanks for looking that stuff up.  I made an attempt to maybe a month or so ago when the list on Wheaton's website first came up.  Needless to say, you were a lot more successful.  You must be a better researcher..............or you just have more time.  8)

:P I've had a lot on my mind lately. I think I use basketball as a chance to turn my brain off. Since I never touch the TV and hardly ever go to movies... I need to do it somewhere! :D

I've actually been doing this for years. I think I started when I was trying to figure out if Owen could actually be right when he tried to reassure me that future transfer Jonathan Steven was better than Kevin Blomstrom who had just left. Unlike most players, where local people can share personal accounts of players that are going to various schools, you get the Wheaton list of players, and you think... um... okay... ??? Since I rarely have the inside scoop on anything, I turn to the magical powers of Google to find out info on recruits. The base starting point is always to look up the name, plus the school name. It's actually not that hard at all... you can usually find a lot that way between local newspapers and the school websites. I don't think it took me very long to compile that list. It did take me some time to make all the random cut/pastes coherant though.  :D

My favorite thing I've ever found while doing this was that class webpage project by Luke Trenz where his weird bobble head was on top of a cartoon body riding around on a tractor, with the music "she thinks my tractor's sexy" playing in the background. It's really hard to take someone seriously when that's the first thing you see about them, let me tell you. :D

And the '96-97 Titans had 3 as well -- Crabtree ('97), Niebrugge ('98), and Korey Coon ('99, '00).

Had the pleasure of meeting Chris Braier (Lawrence University) over the weekend.  Chris is involved with a basketball camp my son is attending up in the Milwaukee area and he happens to be the coach of the team my son is on.  Finally got a chance to talk with Chris  for a few minutes this morning.  Told him my son enjoyed his style of play since he is a point guard and Chris told him to push the ball of the court every chance he had.  I think Chris would make a nice coach some day but sounds like his immediate plans are to play ball overseas (possibly in Denmark).

I wish him well, he seems like a really good guy....just another example of the type of student athlete we have all gotten to know through our respective schools.

I'd be negligent if I didn't mention running into Theo Powell during the week at another bball camp my son attended.  Theo has been helping out with camps in the area over the past few summers along with offering up personal training.  Another fine young man who is also living his dream by continuing to play basketball overseas.

I sent Pat a personal message earlier explaining what I thought to be a bug with the update, as the CCIW Chat page is the only one that doesn't conform itself to my viewing window.  However, it appears that if people (cough, cough, April) put too long a link into the text that it causes this sort of problem.  I guess that's what the little globe button up top there is for.

I spent too long that day formatting the darn table in the historical results board to worry about how to do the stupid link feature... especially since it looks fine on my screen. ??? My apologies if that's true for anyone else in addition to Hoops Fan...

kmark - it's good to hear from you! Chris was quite the player... it's always nice to hear good stories affirming the character that's been repeatedly spoken of the 2006 Jostens Winner!

With respect to the posts about teams with 3 CCIW MOPs, I find it interesting that if you look up the coaches of Simich, Niebrugge, and Lipic you'll find some of the best coaches in the IHSA.

Cal Hubbard of UHigh (Lipic's coach) has 382 wins, Ron Nikcevich retired with 562 wins while Ken Crawford has 628 wins. As someone who has spent a few years around IHSA basketball, I know that those three names are respected througout the state (although not all liked, as you can imagine). I was not able to find much out about Coon's or Crabtree's coaches.

Impressive... my post lasted a whole 7 minutes before getting a reply!

Married life is great!  It's taken some adjusting... I mean, I went from living with a bunch of guys in a ratty old house that's about 80 years old, and hadn't been renovated (or cleaned well) in about half that time... to a 3 year old apartment, living with a woman who has a much different definition of "clean" than I do.  I mean, she's already dusted like 4 times, and we've been living in the apartment for less than a month and a half!

Oh well.  It's still great though!  It's going to be a lot harder than living along, but it's worth it.

You just happened to catch me on, and you post didn't make my eyes glaze over like some of the other recent talk, so I posted. :)

Well, I dust about every two weeks too, I'm pretty sure.... hah. The differences between guys and girls are so funny. Sometimes guy apartments are so scary! :D

Old School: I think the real question is if PS has EVER posts during normal awake hours. ;)
