Quote from: robberki on October 12, 2006, 11:38:55 PMWell, I can't speak for everyone else here but I'm just jealous because the NBA told me they don't need any more slow, fat, and undersized power forwards. Their loss I guess...

The NBA just doesn't place enough value anymore on good looks and magnetic charisma, Roberto.

.

Yeah; they're totally lacking now that Charles Barkley is gone.  Give it up for the Gov.

Hey, while you're bemoaning the absence of good looks and magnetic charisma, let's not forget the legacy of big, bad, Bill Laimbeer.

Have (or has) the titans joined the awkward, sub-category of the singular-phrased, oft mis-conjugated(?) Stanford Cardinal, or am I just bored and nit-picking on a slow Friday afternoon?

I saw the North Park cross country team run Saturday.  They finished 123-124-125-126-127-128 at the Brooks Invitational

I conclude that they are really into the "team" concept.  They stayed together the whole race, very supportive.

Looking at Elmhurst's non-conference schedule...........

First of all, it is definitely easier than last year's.  However, they still can't seem to shake those WIAC teams (playing Oshkosh & Whitewater this year).  That right there makes their schedule tough, even with both being at home.  Long road trips loom in November and December (Alma, St. Norbert, Simpson) but they are average at best.  They could easily go 8-3 or 7-4, as they still have enough firepower without Martin running the show.  In the past few years, they've seemed to slip up on an easy road win (if there is such a thing!).  There is definitely a chance of that happening again early, especially at Simpson or St. Norbert.  9-2 is not out of the question, but is not likely as that lack a true stud they can rely on.  If Nick Michael & Brent Ruch step up their play, 9-2 becomes more probable, but that is a big "if".  Besides, they need the ball before things can happen, and the only guy who can get it to them is Brian Lee.  He can do it pretty well, but after that, there is not much in the back court, at least that we know about.

Don't be so hasty to pass such a sweeping judgment. Sophomore off-guard Ryan Burks should turn out to be a terrific CCIW player in his three remaining years. Lots of Elmhurst people were telling me that Mark Scherer would've had no reservations about playing Burks on varsity last year as a freshman if he hadn't already had three experienced seniors (Patchett, Ihlenfeldt, and Gershenzon) at the same position.

You are correct, GS.  The Burks guy slipped my mind, I heard he could be very good.  We'll just have to wait and see, as he doesn't have much experience due to the senior laden backcourt from last season, as you pointed out.  One other guy I forgot to mention was Robert Strzemp.  He had his moments last season, but fluttered at the end of the season (not uncommon among freshman, as the season is much longer than their usual high school season).  He could factor greatly in the mix also.

Greg,

The original posting puzzled me, too.  I can only surmise that there were some technical issues that did not allow such a cogent argument to be posted on the "Track/Cross-Country" board.

An article on the Titans from today's Pantagraph...

Brian Nussbaum, a pretty heralded recruit out of Homewood-Flossmoor a couple years ago, has to have another surgery on his shoulder -- this is the injury that sidelined him last year.  His basketball career is likely over unfortunately.

Mr. Ypsi

A real shame about Brian Nussbaum.  I saw him at the JV/alumni game two years ago, and I was more impressed with him than anyone but Darius Gant.  I think he could have been a VERY good CCIW player.

Here's hoping the prognosis is too pessimistic, and he does have a senior year on the court!

Brian was the captain of that great H-F team that included Julian Wright (Kansas), Cyrus Tate (Iowa), and Excell Hardy (Quincy).  In addition to being recruited by the likes of IWU and Lawrence in Division III, he was offered full rides by Division II programs Winona St, Quincy, and North Dakota (Winona St won the national championship last year).

I always felt Brian was going to be a very solid CCIW player and very important to IWU's post- Dauksas/Amelianovich years.
