Good web link to the East Suburban Catholic All-Conference Teams.  I must have seen him play against Frasor, not with him.  Nevertheless...............

Anybody check out the Pre-Season All-American Teams?  Anthony Simmons is a very good player, but does he merit a 2nd Team nomination over Zach Freeman who got a 3rd Team nomination?  I'd take Freeman if I had to choose between the two.  How about Kent Raymond garnering a 4th Team nomination?  Not bad for sitting out all last year.

Which one of those three will win the league MVP?  I actually think Raymond might get it.

As a forward, Simmons was considered with other forwards. As a center, Freeman was considered with other centers. Simmons landed higher among forwards than Freeman did among centers (or Raymond among guards, for that matter).

Thanks to Pat for the clarification of players being considered to others playing the same position. I was wondering how they were compared myself.

Either way you slice it, Freeman, Simmons, and Raymond are among the best players in the land. To make even honorable mention All American is a great honor and EVERY player mentioned anywhere on the All-American board deserves congratulations. With all the players on all the teams, I think the fact they made it should be the focus rather than what team they were voted to.

No cheerleaders that I have ever seen. Just a few fans and, if they're lucky, a few groupies. Many of the fans are parents. Most of the CCIW JV games are played at 5:15
when students are starting to think about going to dinner, and adults are on the way home from work.

Speaking of JV teams---IWU sure has enough players to have a JV team. However, last year I was told they refuse to bring a JV team for a preliminary game when have an away game scheduled. Do they even have a formal JV team? If so do they only play before home games? I'm sure some IWU fan can help with this info.

AndOne, IWU has been playing home and away JV games as long as I have been around the program.  You got some bad info. there.

I am not sure IWU has enough players to field a JV team this season.  The Titans have just 17 basketball players...

(Brian Nussbaum, who is now back in the mix, should be added.)

It depends on how the varsity rotation ends up to some extent, but I just can't see the Titans having a JV squad this year.  There is literally no post player in the freshman class (there are 4 guards) and the only sophomore post (Brett Chamernik) will be an important part of the varsity rotation.

Did I mention that this is a really important recruiting season for Illinois Wesleyan?!

I saw Freeman twice last year and Roosevelt from St. Thomas once.  Freeman is head and shoulders better in my opinion.....which I think is unbiased.  The CCIW is a much better league than the Minnesota league that Roosevelt plays in.......that taints any statistical comparisons.  In a head to head match-up, Freeman would eat him up.

Just my opinion.

It'd be interesting to know the stories of each player on that preseason All-American list in terms of what "bigger" schools recruited them.  I imagine all had scholarship opportunities somewhere.  I know Zach Freeman was recruited by UW-Green Bay, Indiana State, and Murray State.  Isaac Rosefelt actually was a D1 scholarship player as a freshman:

I'll bet there are a lot of good stories about who turned down what and why Division III was simply a better fit.

Thank you

I think every year is an important recruiting season for every team. Without good recruiting, and maybe a little luck, down the tubes you go.

I'm not in any way denigrating those players, but keep in mind that this is the preseason 2005-06 All-American team of which we're speaking.

I assure you I thoroughly understand your point, Mr. Sager. But, preseason or not, I still think these players deserve congrats. Its still a great accomplishment in their careers. Even if they don't make the final team, I think they can still be considered pretty darn good players.

Actually it's the preseason 2006-07 team. :)

Greg's always been a little behind.

Boy, that's one of the nicer things he's been called on this board.  Greg, don't hold your breath, but there may be a little positive karma headed your way at this rate.

Thanks to Titan Q for his great preseason summary on the CCIW programs. I was interested to see Q thinks Matt Pelton might get some court time at Augie. I know nothing about him, but if he's good, I'm surprised IWU let him get out of town to head to the QC. The only Augie freshman I have seen is DeKalb's Kyle Waller, who played in the Upstate 8 and was very good (All Conference) in that very competitive BB conference. In fact DeKalb is no longer in the Upstate 8 starting this season.

By the way has Augie scrimmaged anyone as yet? Getting info over the internet from the QC about Augie is not easy.

I do know it's about time for the regulars to make their preseason predictions. I think after picking NCC 1st, it's going to be hard to pick the order of the rest of the conference. Also do not forget the Pickem Board once the season starts next weekend.

Force of habit. It's like writing checks with "2005" on them during the first few weeks of January 2006.  ;)
