For example, the Wheaton vs Whitworth game was in-region -- whereas last year that game would not have hurt Wheaton (just like IWU's win over Puget Sound last December didn't help the Titans), it now does.

How was IWU harmed by beating Puget Sound?

I did not say they were harmed...I said the win "didn't help."  Basically the game didn't count in the eyes of the selection committee.  Wheaton's loss to Whitworth, on the other hand, counts.

I followed Carthage basketball last year and it seemed that they had the talent on the team.  It seemed that they could just never bring it together on the floor or had some of their better players out for various reasons

Beyond the Arc, I agree. Carthage had a lot of individual talent last year, but for some reason the mix of guys just didnt' seem to play well together. There are a lot of new faces, and hopefully that's a good thing.  Joe Higgins should man the point position the next 4 years, which I believe will really help. He's not going to score 20 every night, but teams will think twice before trying to press Carthage this year with him handling the ball. Carthage's preview is also in the Kenosha paper (a better preview IMO), but that one is not accesible through the internet.

Here are a few Bosko nuggets from the Kenosha News article today:

On the prediction to finish seventh - "It doesn't bother me because I don't think a lot of people know what we have in the building,  I think this year's team will be significantly better than last year's team and I think the next four years we should contend if not win a couple conference championships.  I'm that high on this group."

Regarding Higgins - "We're asking quite a bit of him, he'll have the ball in his hands a good percentage of the time and he has to make good decisions for us.  But that's probably what he does best.  He's what I call a pointy-point guard in that he's a very good distributor and a tough kid.  He's a good ball-handler, good passer, a fine defensive player."

Regarding Schlemm - "He knows we're counting on him.  These four weeks of practice, his consistency and his effort have been wonderful.  No one on the team is more talented.  If he has a big year, we could just ride along with him and get some things done that are pretty special."

Practices - "I've had more fun in these last four weeks of practice than I have in about three years."

Augustana won pretty easily tonight against Beloit 69-52. Strong shooting performace by Augie behind the arc 9-13. Delp lead the way with 20 pts. in 16 min. going 8-10, and 4-5 from three point land. Nate Swetalla was next in scoring with 12 pts. Only bad note in the game for Augustana was it had 23 turnovers in the game and went 4 1/2 min without a bucket in the second half. Much of what I expected from Augie tonight against Beloit.

Final score from the Concordia website: North Park 68, Concordia Chicago 31

I did a double-take when I saw the final score.  The Vikings led 33-16 at the half and increased the margin even further after the break.  Jason Gordon was the only player for either squad in double figures with 14, but  14 of the 15 Vikes who saw playing time also chipped in with at least two points.  The box score shows that North Park dominated in every phase of the game (16 turnovers to 25 by the Cougars; 14 Viking steals to only 3 by Concordia; a 42-30 advantage in rebounds; 48% to 22% shooting; and so forth).  That must not have been a fun game for the home crowd in River Forest to watch.  I'll be interested to read a first-person account of the game.

Anyone got Elmhurst or Augie results?  So far looks like a clean sweep for the CCIW.

Carthage sounded pretty strong after the weak start.  Schlemm really stepped up with 36 points and they had a few others with big contributions.  It was good to see a strong game from them to start the season off.  Djurickovic said that this is one of the most talented teams he has had in a while, but this is what was also said last year.  It will be interesting to see what happens during sunday's game when they take on Gustavus Adolphus, a team they had a tough time with last year.
