This is a cool frame-by-frame pick of a Zach Freeman dunk...

And a pretty good illustration of the way Freeman gets defended this year (4 Bluejays in the vicinity)...

Not exactly a SRO crowd at that game!  Is that really a home game?  And what's with the guy in the yellow sweater?  He looks so unimpressed that I'm guessing that'll be the cover photo for the second edition of Bridges 'A Dunk is Still Only Worth Two Points'.

I can't decide which i like better: the guy on his cell phone plugging his other ear to hear or the old couple eating popcorn at the top of the bleachers.
The lady in black is too busy yappin to even notice the impressive dunk!

That entire section of fans looks as though they ought to be checked to see if they still have pulses. The boredom on their faces is palpable.

Maybe it's just me, but I always thought that fans were supposed to get excited when someone from the home team dunks the ball.

Yup. In fact, I'll be there early to see the NPU JV take on their Bluejays counterparts.

Naw, they have personally autographed copies of Coach Bridges' book!   They are waiting for the 10' jump shot!  ;)

In that case, I hope that they gave Freeman a healthy round of boos. In that picture he doesn't look as though he's the slightest bit interested in pulling up for a ten-footer.

NP Jv's looked pretty good against the Cards JV squad.  They won by about 20 pts.
CARDINAL PRIDE STARTS WITH ME!

Anyone know why NPU & Wesleyan are playing on Sunday instead of the usual Saturday?

The NPU JV team is an interesting animal. Because Paul Brenegan's newbies have upped the team's talent level considerably, and because the sophomore who was playing PG for the varsity as a freshman for most of the Vikings' CCIW games last season (Keith Willert) is only now returning from a leg injury that sidelined him for the first two months, several experienced varsity players have been relegated to JV status. In Saturday's JV win over Wheaton, no fewer than four former varsity starters (Willert, Mike Peterson, Ed Whitaker, and Mike Ventura) played for the Vikings JV.

That's not to say that NPU's junior varsity consists solely of demotees and players recovering from injury. Probably the most impressive player I've seen for the North Park JV this season has been freshman combo guard Lukas Dahlstrom (Etna, NH). Diminutive freshman PG Chris Brown (Chicago Heights, IL) is a very quick and active presence in the backcourt who played at Rich South and was all-conference in the rugged SICA. And 6'7 freshman center Glenn Woodside (Chicago / Gordon Tech) is coming along slowly but surely.

Willert had a good game against the Wheaton JV, by the way, and looks fully healed. We may be seeing him back on the NPU varsity before too long.

My guess is that Wesleyan had some sort of Shirk Center scheduling conflict that necessitated the switch, and that NPU obliged them. Unfortunately, this now creates a massive headache for everyone who would like to see that game but would also like to see the Bears play the Saints on Sunday afternoon.

This was that December 30 game vs Albion at 1:00pm, which was the smallest crowd in the history of the Shirk Center...and in reality, an early Saturday afternoon crowd of 800 over the holidays (no students) for a game vs a bad non-conference team wouldn't be too bad at a lot of places in Division III.  Heck, maybe not even too bad for some big CCIW games:

NPU @ North Central (450)
NCC @ Wheaton (837)
Carthage @ Augie (850)
Elmhurst @ Carthage (400)

Behind the baskets is always the last place to fill in at IWU.  Here's one of the sideline bleachers from the same game...

http://www.iwuhoops.com/ts5.jpg

Unfortunately with the Bears in the NFC championship game, this Sunday's contest vs NPU may be the smallest conference game crowd ever.  I don't think there has ever been a CCIW game with less than 1500.  I'm not sure why it is on Sunday...haven't asked.

BRLHSFAN

Not sure if it's THE reason or not, but I know that the McLean County/HOI Conference tournament is going on this week and it takes place in Shirk, so it COULD be a reason for a Sunday game.  There will be high school boys and girls in Shirk beginning at 1 and last game starts at 8.  It's the 97th year for the tourney and it's always been held at IWU.

Why doesn't the Shirk Center just go ahead with their installation of a big "Diamondvision" and stream the Bears-Saints game? ;)

I think the AD of both schools should figure something out here - no one really will care about NP and IWU playing each other especially when it conflicts with Da Bears playing to go to the Super Bowl

Come on AD boys, do something here - play later in the day. HOW ABOUT A DOUBLE HEADER?

Da Bears @ 2:00 /  NP vs. IWU @ 5:00pm??

BeastMaster

Congrats to my boy Drew Gensler on being named CCIW player of the week for the first time in his career.  Hopefully we can get a big win on Wednesday night against Augie.  Go Blue!!!

REDMENFAN

Wow, I was shocked when I looked at the poll today and saw Carthage was still in the top 25. Any Augie fans know if Milos played against them? I had a busy weekend and didn't hear anything except they lost. I know he was injured against Elmhurst and heard he might miss the Augie game. If that's the case hopefully he's a fast healer because he's been great for Carthage from 3 point land this year.

79jaybird

Redmenfan,  I too was surprised Carthage is still ranked.  Not because I don't think they have a good team (they do), but because they are 0-3 to start the CCIW slate.  Milos played in the Elmhurst game, but (I believe) he got hurt towards the end of the game?    Carthage, (like every other team) is not to be taken lightly, because Bowens and Schlemm are pretty good shooters when given open looks.
