The silence is deafening from the folks at State Farm U. tonight guess they have a long quiet ride home.

sorry to all hoping to listen to the EC-North Park game, but it appears that our webcast was down for the night.  sorry.  for those in dupage county, feel free to flip the dial to 88.7fm is that happens.
We will have a broadcasting team at all games, hopefully this was just a minor blip on our radar as all the other games have been aired with no major problems.

Frustrating game tonight at Park.  We lead the vast majority of the game, despite often getting hosed on calls (to be fair EC got hosed sometimes as well).  Freshman Joe Capalbo took the last shot for NP w/ a little over 6sec left as we were down 77-76.  It was from about a foot away (amazingly he got into the lane almost untouched), and rimmed out. What a terrible way to lose.  I would imagine the next time Joe gets the ball with 15 seconds left and the opportunity to hit the game winning shot, he will.

Capalbo is already a solid player, and he's going to get even better.  I was glad he was given the assignment of taking the last shot.  He'll be a clutch player for the next years at the Park.

The difference in the game was at the line in the second half: the Bluejays went 16-of-17 and the Vikes, 12-of-16.  After the break I think the teams combined for about 25 fouls.

Whew!!  All I can say is winning on the road is not easy no matter who you're playing!
1) Congratulations to North Park players and coaches.  I know you guys didn't get the result you were looking for tonight, but your heart, and intensity was great.  Boyd and Jones were very good and built up a big lead.  I was stunned with how we came out.
2) I was talking with EC's SID and we both agreed that NPU was beating us at our own game.  It was the Vikings going into the paint, drawing fouls, and getting easy scores.  Good coaching on the Park's part.
3) Even though we played as bad as I have seen us, the mark of a good team is how they battle adversity and regroup.  I was impressed with what Coach Scherrer said at the half (I found out later it was mostly on the subject of intensity and heart), and how the players refused to lose.
Lastly, and a big last.  What is with these officials in this conference?   That red headed guy Faulkner (not sure if I spelled it right)? was missing calls both sides, both ways, ALL NIGHT LONG! He was constantly out of position and making bogus calls all night.  Again, it was both ways and the officials didn't decide the outcome which is GOOD. However that crew was pretty bad.

I thought Coach Scherer did a good job of keeping the team on an even keel... nobody hit the panic button.

It was a great game to watch (other than the quick whistles).

CardinalPride-thank you.  Very interesting cheer, but now that you explained it,  it is very motivating.

Is Scherer always that laid back?  He seemed so stress free through the evening.

The silence is deafening from the folks at State Farm U. tonight guess they have a long quiet ride home.

Looking at the boxscore (couldn't make the game as I was in the emergency room for most of the evening), looks like the biggest factor in Wheaton beating IWU was:

1. Points off turnovers - IWU 7,WHEATON 26
2. Bench points - IWU 12,WHEATON 27  (though some of this could have come toward end of the game)
3. Turnovers - IWU 18, WHEATON 10
4. WHEATON 3-Pt. FG% 1st Half:  0-5   0.0%   2nd Half:  7-12 58.3%
5. IWU TOTAL FG% 1st Half: 13-23 56.5%   2nd Half:  9-26 34.6%

It was a game of 2 completely different halves... according to the boxscore. IWU lead by 15 with 7:37 left in the first half (though Wheaton whittled it down to 4 by half) and Wheaton turned the game around to the point of having a 15 point lead with 5:15 left in the 2nd half.  Wheaton outscores IWU 44-26 in the 2nd half.  Only 1 tie and 2 lead changes the entire game.

For IWU:
Zack Freeman had 23 pts, 9 reb

For Wheaton:
Kent Raymond had 26 pts, 6 reb, 5 assists and 2 steals (looks like he's getting healthy)
John Mohan had 22 pts
Michael Fiddler had 13 pts

Coach Scherrer laid back?  HA!   If you know Coach Scherrer, he does get very nervous before the game.  He is a great Coach, role model, and person,  but he does have a few "rituals".  Before the game he usually finds a spot on campus to just walk around and "collect his thoughts".  Sometimes he paces, sometimes he just walks around, and sometimes you might catch him talking to himself.  Whatever floats your boat, and whatever he is saying/doing is working so far, so more power to him!  :D
My pregame football ritual was before I got into the locker room, I would either go to my car or find an empty bathroom and start singing.  Yes singing  :o  Just my way to "vent the nerves" out of the system.

It appears to be, thank you.  My father was rushed to the emergency room with what appears to be a severe allergic reaction - almost to the point of anaphylactic shock.  It appears he had his first allergic reaction to something he ate... and he just turned 70!  Weird.

I've deleted all of my posts depreciating my HOF status on all boards, and any posts containing my argument with Greg, and any points where other people quoted me on that subject in their posts. I don't know if I have the prerogative to do that or not, but I don't really care. I didn't take any of their own words off the board, they can decide what to do with their words, I decided what to do with mine. And if Pat removes the HOF status because of my actions, I will, in some sense, actually win.

Incidentally, bear with me guys, but I really need to publicly apologize to markerickson. While my angst took a very different form, mostly self depreciation, when I found out that my cousin's deployment was going to be extended, and that he very likely will miss my sister's wedding... I was completely not in control of my emotions or the things I said. Probably to a much greater degree than mark. Regardless of whether or not what you said was helpful to the situation, shame on me for being so insensitive to your honest reaction to the pain you were so rightfully feeling...  I hope you can forgive me.

While it still personally appears to me that Greg overreacted to what should have just been a healthy debate as if I was somehow attacking him personally, the karma hits I've taken in the last day or two are indication that at least several people agree with him.

As my last comments on this board for a really REALLY long time, because people on this board tend to take every thing a little to darn seriously, to the detriment of this board IMHO, and I just can't deal with something like this which is supposed to be lighthearted and fun and a source of stress relief weighing me down....

What happened to the dozens upon dozens of posters on this board? This board used to have 5 pages of posts every day, and scroll off on game nights... The way that new people are treated on this board sometimes is ridiculous. What are we, a clique? How many Titans aren't posting on this board because they are fair weather fans (probably not a lot) and how many are not posting because they're not huge fans of the way that their opinion is treated because there are so many of them? I don't know. I do know that it is sad to see this board languishing, whatever the reasons are.  :-\

And with that, I will leave you all to your own devices.  :P I think I'll be better off sticking to boards where ribbing is the norm, rather than some form of personal attack...

And for whatever it's worth, Go Wheaton!

Karma +for you DHF for telling it like it is. but the soap opera has to stop. I (and most) would prefer you stick around and keep the thick skin you usually have but your choice.

I agree, Go Wheaton!

April:

I'm with you babe.

The HoF goon squad came after me big time when I truthfully labeled one of their own a "pollyanna".

I've stopped going to North Park / Wheaton games (which I loved, going back to the first one I saw in Jan. 1968 when North Park stopped Wheaton's 62-game CCIW winning streak in Crusaderland), because I'm tired of see and then reading about how North Park doesn't play like a team and Wheaton does.  I talked with several people from my church who did attend the game last Saturday and once again they were embarrassed at North Park's lack of team play.

As much as I think that Bill Harris is somewhat of a pompous ass, I still admire the great job he does year after year in coaching Wheaton.  And last year might have been his best year as a coach ever.

The fact that North Park 'craps down its leg' almost every time it plays Wheaton in recent years leaves a real bitter taste.

I've seen both Wheaton and North Park play this year - and the bottom line is Wheaton is a better team because they have better players, who have been taught how to play better as a team and that the whole can be better than the sum of its individual parts.

North Park may have more athletically gifted athletes, with more quickness and jumping ability, but that does NOT make them better basketball players in my humble opinion.  It's not the dunk line - or the ooh-ahh factor that matters - its who wins the game, that's why they keep score.

April - I leave you with the parting words of Gen Stillwell - illegitami non-carborundum.

Dennis,

this is one of the better posts I have read on here in a couple years (and i haven't even looked up the latin yet). You said exactly what I have been thinking as I read. a rare karma + for King D.

I actually made it out to king arena tonight for the Thunder/weenie game. a few thoughts from a bball ameteur:

-Zach Freeman is a lot of fun to watch. I counted 4 blocks of Kent Raymond shots and 2 dunks....all that in the first half. He is a special player.
-the 1st half.....ah yes. wheaton played listless and without passion in going down by 15pts. IWU got every loose ball, every rebound and played inspired defense.
-the 2nd half....different iwu team and much different thunder team. Wheaton came out and played passionate defense, particularly agains the IWU guards. the pressured the ball, fronted freeman and gave quick backside help when required. IWU's guards started to turn the ball over and wheaton made easy baskets as a result. Mohan was 22 of wheaton's 27 bench points (20 of which came in the second half). Raymond got untracked after a slow start (i don't think wheaton works very hard to get him open away from the ball). I saw the difference in the game as wheaton's effort in the second half and the dominant play of wheaton's backcourt vs IWU's backcourt. Freeman's and Gant were pretty unstoppable when they got the ball near the basket.

In all a double digit win against IWU in basketball doesn't come very often so Wheaton should relish it while they can. I will admit it warmed my heart to hear the wheaton football team chanting "don't be sad, don't be blue, we beat you in football too". a 1-2 home record in conference play is still a pretty big hole to dig out of.

This comment angers me so I choose not to speak about the NPU-EC contest tonight.
