I think this just shows my point.  I lost 1 karma point for saying Q is a good guy.  Somebody is just messing with the points.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

NPU lost by 22. The Vikings didn't even break the fifty-point barrier as a team. They did absolutely nothing right all night. Never mind the injuries and the fact that the team is mostly newbies -- there's no way to make excuses for their performance this evening. It was a disaster all the way around.

I'll post tomorrow when I've cooled down.

Brian, I have, and will, miss you on the broadcasts this year!

Have we located any Wheaton posters for this season?  ???

Wheaton tops Concordia WI 85-72... will play in Pfund Championship against Aurora tomorrow at 8pm. Aurora beat McMurry 98-86.

Bollier with 26, 7-9 from field, 10-10 from line. :o
Interesting performaces by a few freshman.

We're undefeated... woo! ;)

Incidentally, Kent Raymond's pic was used on the WETN site to advertize for tonight's game... does that count as cruel and unusual...  :-\
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

Saw (well, actually, did the computer stats for) IWUs game against UT-Dallas. They couldn't put the Comets away, and in the first half IWU looked unfocused and out of sync, but they started shooting well from the perimeter and went from there.
Wabash Always Fights!

Mac Attack

Millikin 85   MacMurray 82

Highlanders had two chances to take the lead with less than two minutes to play, but couldn't get it done. Big Blue dodged a bullet tonight. Mac missed 17 free throws, and could have easily won by 10. Will be interesting to see how Millikin does against Blackburn, last year's SLIAC post-season representative...

April - I definitely miss calling the games. I'll be in Wheaton a couple of times in December/early January. Perhaps a cameo opportunity will present itself.

Seeing as no one has chimed in from the Wheaton contingent, I guess I'll throw out some observations (granted, I didn't see the game)

Looking at the stats from tonight - Tony Bollier absolutely went off. 26 points, 7 of 9 from the field, 10 of 10 from the line. I would love to see him assert himself like this every time out. That being said, it will be interesting to see how he handles being a "marked" man against a good defensive team.

I was excited to see how Dave McAlpine would fare in his debut, but I don't see his name in the boxscore.

Numbers that jump out at you -

19 turnovers for Wheaton. Not at all out of the question for a young team in its first game of the season.

71.8% (28/49) - Wheaton's Field Goal PTC. Yikes!

50 - Second half points scored by Concordia... The Thunder led 36-22 at halftime.

Mr. Ypsi

Brian,

But don't forget that that also means Wheaton had 49 points in the second half; sounds like it was just two different 'ballgames'!

How will North Central be?  Seems like they have gotten off to a good start the last 2 years and then faded.

The Cards will be a solid team again this year.  They get a nice win at home 88-72.  There problems have come on the road in conference play.  Going 1-6 in league play on the road last year.  Obviously, their only win coming at North Park.  This year's team has enough experience to get it done on the road.  I believe they will be in the upper half of the conference.  Therefore, earning a spot in the conference tourny!  Simmons had a big game tonight scoring 32pts.  The freshman Chris Drennan looked good too chipping in 10pts off the bench!

Texas-Dallas 58

* Keelan Amelianovich: 24 pts (6-11 3-pt)
* Adam Dauksas: 17 pts (8-8 FT), 7 assists
* Cory Jones: 9 pts, 11 reb
* Mike McGraw: 10 pts (2-4 3-pt)

IWU really struggled out of the gate last night.  The Titans just couldn't seem to settle in for most of the 1st Half.  The effort was there, but the execution and the shooting from the field were not.  IWU made just 1 of its first 8 3-pointers against the Texas-Dallas zone.  The game was tied at an ugly 18 with 3:00 to play in the first when the Titans finished the half on a 12-2 run to take a 30-20 halftime lead.

It was a 40-34 game at 13:55 when the Titans went on a 14-4 run that made it a comfortable 16 point margin under 10 minutes.  To the Comets credit, they kept battling very hard.  The Titans had a number of chances to blow the game open and win by 20+, but UT-D hit 4 3's in the final 6 minutes.

It definitely wasn't a pretty game, but IWU did do a number of things very well to help their cause.  The Titan defense was very good all night.  UT-D shot just 36% - the Titans used their size and athleticism to make it very difficult for the Comets to score.  The IWU guard combo of Jason Fisher and Mike McGraw did a really nice job on UT-D returning leading scorer Martin Salinas.  Salinas is a Ryan Knuppel/Rick Harrigan type player who made 85 3's last year  (and made 42% of his 3-pt attempts), but he was 1 of his first 7 against IWU.  Salinas was rarely open it seemed.  IWU also rebounded well, sparked by an impressive 11 rebound performance off the bench by Cory Jones.  The Titans outrebounded the Comets 41-37 in the game.  And IWU shot it well in the 2nd Half...the Titans settled down and hit 6-12 3's in the 2nd.

UT-Dallas is not as talented as IWU, Elmhurst, or Augustana, but from a preseason poll standpoint, would be right there in the CCIW 4th place discussion with Carthage and NCC.  They're a physical team that makes it hard to run offense and hard to score.  They won the ASC-East conference tournament last year and played Trinity (Tx) very tough (6 pts) in Round 1...and have 7 of their top 9 back from that team.  So, I think a pretty good opening win for IWU but a lot to work on.

Titan Q

In the second game of the Little Giant Classic last night, Wabash blew out a very weak Alma team 73-54.  Wabash is a talented team with good, solid players at every position and a lot of depth.  The Little Giants don't really have a superstar, but their balance is impressive.

Wabash starts:

G Kyle Medeiros (6-0/180, Sr)
G Adonis Joseph (6-2/174, Sr)
G Michael Woods (6-1/205, Sr)
F Caleb Lyttle (6-4/210, Sr)
C Kyle Coffey (6-9/220, Sr)

I assume IWU will go with last night's starters:

G Adam Dauksas (6-3/190, Sr)
G Jason Fisher (6-2/210, Sr)
F Keelan Amelianovich (6-6/210, Sr)
F Chris Jones (6-5/210, Sr)
C Zach Freeman (6-7/210, Jr)

IWU is bigger and stronger than Wabash and much more athletic.  The Little Giants will have be good from the perimeter in this game to stay with the Titans and they will also need to find a way to contain Amelianovich.  That seems to be a glaring problem for them - they'll probably put one of the guards on him, but Keelan will have a 4-5 inch height advantage there.  I also think Zach Freeman will be a tough matchup for Wabash.

The Wabash students are into the game as much as any student section I've seen in recent years, and the acoustics of Chadwick Court make it an incredibly loud place.  Tonight will be a really good early test for the Titans against a solid, very well-coached team on their floor, in front of a large crowd.  When the Albion/Little Giant football game ends today right at about tip and the students and others file in, Chadwick should be rockin.'  It will be fun.

I will be doing the play-by-play on WJBC2.com with a free agent color guy I picked up - Art Kimball.  Coverage starts at 1:50pm CST.

Wheaton looked shaky tonight against a very bad team.  They struggled to find shots in the first half and only because the Concordia team couldn't hit the broadside of a barn until the last 5 minutes when they couldn't miss.
Let's just say it will be a long, long, long, season.
Needless to say it's not going to be pretty tonight for either Concordia or Wheaton.  There's going to be "blood" all over the floor from McMuury/Concordia and it's going to be knee deep after Wheaton loses to Aurora.
Greg,
You think now North Park will have a chance vs Wheaton :-)
