Is Chris Martin playing overseas?  If so can someone please provide me with what team.

Thanks.

Late nite

Wow---Aren't we sensitive?---I doubt very much if this was an oversight by Augie---You're probably right on---You're also correct about Raridon---He has other things on his mind---Can he win with the players that HE actually recruited or is his success the result of the players he inherited from Benji Taylor?---From the results this year, the jury is still out---I'm sure that is more important to him than any award---Coaches and players are very similar---What have you done for me lately?

As far as conference awards are concerned, my biggest gripe by far is with the Coach of the Year award. According to the rules as spelled out in the CCIW men's basketball sports guide, it's given to the coach of the team that wins the automatic bid to the tourney:

http://www.cciw.org/pdf/sports_guides/MensBasketballSportsGuide.doc -- section V, subsection E, on page 4.

Obviously, the league ignored the rules last year and gave the award instead to the head coach of the CCIW champion, Grey Giovanine, rather than to the head coach of the CCIW automatic bid winner, Todd Raridon:

And while we're speaking about coaches awards, lets get another thing straight.
The Augustana College website states the following about Coach Giovanine:
He was named CCIW “Coach of the Year” and won the same honor from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association for all NCAA Division III coaches in the state.

This, in fact, is false. The fact is that he and Coach Raridon were named CO-COACHES of the year by the IBCA.

An attempt to deceive readers? Perhaps. I hope and believe its a simple oversight/mistake by the AU Athletic Dept. The point is, whether intentional of not, the mistake can result in a unfair advantage as far as a recruit reviewing the material. Giovanine was NOT the IBCA "Coach  of the Year" for Division III. He, with Raridon of North Central, was CO-Coach of the year!

NOTE---Coach Raridon did not discuss this with me prior to my post. His primary focus is not winning any individual awards. This is all me. I just think that as such an outstanding educational institution as Augustana College is, they should be able  to get it right.

Dennis,

Grades.  From what I've heard he was about 1/100 off having the qualifying 2.00 for juniors he needed to stay eligible with the NCAA.  It also sounds like he kind of got hosed by one of his profs who strongly encouraged Sheldon to stay in his class though the was having trouble getting the book required for the class, and ultimately gave him a less than stellarr grade in the class.  I imagine Sheldon will be working hard to make sure something like that doesn't happen next year.  We sure could have used his speed defending a couple guys, especially Lee from Elmhurst.

I know Chris Martin of Elmhurst is playing in Luxembourg.  They are currently first place in their league and he's basically dominating.  Here is their team link if anyone cares to follow:

I just looked at the stats.... he's doing pretty well!

Great article on Kenosha product and Carthage point guard Joe Higgins in the paper today. Joe's doing a great job taking care of the ball, and leads the conference in assist to turnover ratio. Here's the link:

Of all the things SIDs can do to trump up bogus publicity for their programs, this is hardly one of them. Not worth your anguish.

what anguish, I'm not following.

nevermind, andone deleted a post inbetween. :)

I do not know the facts about the COY awards from last year, but I can guarantee you that if the information on the Augie website is inaccurate, it is not intentional or in any way an attempt to deceive visitors to the site. Dave Wrath, the SID at Augie, who I assume is responsible for the content on the Augie site,is one of the real stanup guys in small college athletics.

Although he is a "diehard" Augie fan, Dave is also a friend and promoter of the CCIW in general. If there is an error email Dave, and he will correct it. I think Q and others in the know on this board will vouch for Dave W's integrity.

Augiefan is right. Dave Wrath is a sacred sole for the CCIW and the NCAA on a whole.   He is a wealth of knowledge, always is accomodating and helpful whether it be broadcasting, media topics, etc.  and wants to see the kids (athletes) succeed both home and visitors.
I always look forward to having a conversation with Dave when I get a chance. It is hard not to learn something, when talking with him.

So Wheaton comes in ahead of Elmhurst in the first regional rankings.  How do you all feel about that one?

Augiefan----

I posted that the info on the Augie website that says Giovanine was voted Coach of the Year for DIII in Illinois last year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association was incorrect (which it is) because he was actually voted CO-Coach of the year along with Todd Raridon of North Central.  This pertained only to the State DIII award---not to the CCIW coach of the year award.

I didn't have anyone specific in mind at Augie as far as trying to assign any individual blame. I was just surprised that an outstanding institution like Augustana College got this info wrong. I also indicated I felt that if a recruit was reading the incorrect info it was, due to the error, a situation where he could get the idea that Giovanine basically was due more credit than he had actually earned from the Coaches Association. just that it wMy focus was NOT to suggest some form of cheating or anything on the order had taken place, just surprising Augie would publish the incorrect info. I also wanted Coach Raridon, who is very good at what he does, to get proper credit.

I think that came down to the "in-region head-to-head" criterion.  Wheaton beat Elmhurst.  The Bluejays can even that up on 2/17 and if they do, their QOWI and in-region winning % should put them ahead of Wheaton.
