I realize this is terribly premature, but, barring injury or someone totally catching fire, is there really any competition for Kent Raymond being not just conference but national POY?

Mr---

Although Mr. Raymond is a DIII superstar, and it would NOT be surprising to see him win national POY honors, I believe the key word in your appointment of him as such at this very early juncture in the season is "terribly."  :)

Unless I'm underestimating your knowledge of the national DII scene, you can well bet there are one or two players out there someplace who are also already superstars, or who will attain that status during the season, that you probably haven't heard about.

Great game in King arena. I will say I am really disappointed at the league office for scheduling this game on a weekday when school is out. It was virtually a home game for IWU. This game has almost always been a saturday night in later january. bad move by the league.

USEE-----

Fabulous description of the Wheaton-IWU game. After reading it, I felt like I was there!

At least Kendall Greer made his season debut for North Park lineup a game earlier than the doctor was previously going to allow -- Greer did play tonight, didn't he? His number is correct in the box score.
Greg,
Kendall Greer did indeed play tonight!  The boxscore is correct.  I'll let Andone give his analysis of the game because he is better at it than I am! :)

Thanks CP---I'll have an analysis tomorrow after some sleep that will hopefully rejuvenate the brain cells lost to my Mad Cow today.

1. Regarding NP's current starting center, do not succumb to the "soft bigotry of low expectations," unless you are the opponent ->  I believe his upside is absolutely huge.

2.  Wheaton lacks an adequate defender v N. Williams, but the more glaring mismatch is at guard with K. Raymond.  He is the CCIW's best passer so he does not need to rack up 38 at Foster and Kedzie to secure a Wheaton W.

Mark----and others

1. Mark makes a very astute point here. After observing Phil Schniedermier play for NPU tonight, I think the analysis that he has a tremendous upside is right on. The is especially true when u consider he gained no real varsity experience last season. This year he is undergoing on the job training. He needs to work on his footwork, and defense (he was whistled for 4 fouls tonight but easily racked up double that), but he is a force down low and finishes very well.

2. Nick Williams at his best, presents huge problems for most defenders. I had him tabbed as a very likely FIRST team all-conference member this season. However, Mr. Williams is clearly not himself. He seems detached and lacking in intensity. He didn't even start tonight--likely part of some form of disciplinary action the coach has imposed as a result of his recent "misadventures", about which I may have more information soon. He hit a couple of beautiful 3s, but overall shot only 3/10. He rebounded well as far as his numbers (2 Off, 8 Def), but truth be told, he didn't exactly have to fight for at least half his total as he was on the receiving end of some fortuitous bounces off the rim.

Williams missed a few games.  Leave it at that.  I don't think the whole world needs to know the reasons, particularly if they are non-injury related.

Not directly CCIW related, but a piece on motivating today's high school and collegiate student-athletes...

Nick Williams may play for North Park tonight.

dgp

"May" seems to be the operative word. Is his participation optional?
He was supposed to play for sure against Augie Sat.
Is he ineligible, hurt, or being disciplined?

Since everyone will find out in about an hour anyway, I'll clear this up, well...at least partially, Nick will be playing tonight in Naperville. Good news for viking fans.

You, sir, spoiled my semantic fun !!!  ;D

As a former elected official, I can tell you that the word "may" is one of the most fun words in the English language.

Everybody check out Ill Weslyan on the web they are taking to Wheaton 22-9. Wheaton looks totally like not even a Top 25 team they are going down.

CCIW watcher,

you posted this on the 'in game updates' board. You should really be careful what you say early in games. Regardless of the outcome of this game this was a pretty stupid post to make about a team that is hightly ranked.

cciw watcher followed it up by posting over here:

QuoteWheaton showing they are No:1 up 41-33

Which one is it, cciw watcher?

It would appear he has a 'virtual day trader' view of the top 25 poll. Teams can move up or down (sometimes dramatically) during the course of a game. If he were following the Elmhurst/Augie game last night you might have seen something like this:

- 18:48 1st half:Augie has jumped out to a 6-2 lead on Elmhurst showing why they should be ranked ahead of the Bluejays

-5:39 1st half: Burks hits a 3 and its 24-20 Elmhurst. I can't believe the Bluejays aren't ranked ahead of Augie,who shouldn't be in the top 10!

-2:55 2nd half: With Augie down 9 they may not win a conference game and certainly shouldn't be ranked.

-Final Score: Augie 56-55: Augie again proving they are a top 5 team!

8) :o ;)

100% agreed Dr. B.  I'm just happy to see that he's back in the line-up, and that my pessimistic outlook was wrong!

Now the Vikings get three days to think about playing #1 Wheaton with absolutely no fan support in the crackerbox. Time to get out the slingshot and pluck a handful of small, smooth stones from the bed of the North Branch.

Excellent work.  +karmaworthy.
