Augie did not look like a top 10 team last night.  In that sentence, you can put the emphasis on "top 10" or you can put it on "team" and I'd be OK with that, based on last night.  There wasn't much flow to what they did last night.  I don't know if it was the fact of playing behind for almost the entire game, the frequent subbing, the long bus ride in bad weather, or just a bad night.
This is about what could be said about the Titan performance last night...with the exceptions of "Top 25" instead of "Top 10"...and the Titans did not have the long bus ride.

The inexperienced Titan talent has some growing pains to go through.  While I don't have crazy expectations for them, I'm not giving up on them....

Last night was the first time I felt like Kent went a little overboard with the officials. Maybe it was the small gym, but I could hear him a lot more than usual. I was sitting opposite the Wheaton bench in the third row and at one point in the second half he shot a 3 right in front of me, followed by a loud "come on ref!" He probably got hit on the play, but I think it would have been better to let it go.  A lot of times he's probably justified in his complaints, but most officials don't react well to being chirped at. Part of the thing with Kent is that teams are naturally going to play physical D on him, so he gets beat up quite a bit during games--a lot of which is not called. For the most part he is good at just playing through it and the last couple of games he has lit it up in spite of being pushed around all 40 minutes.

If he's tired of "being pushed around all 40 minutes", I'm sure the rest of the conference would be happy to see him sit as many minutes as he needs to, to compose himself.  ;)

It looks like the CCIW is even less physical than the ASC!

I think his stat lines would suggest that he is composed  ;D

Still trying to learn how to use these smiley-face guys, but I thought the wink guy meant not to take the comment too seriously.  Tongue in cheek, maybe.  I'm a Raymond fan, as are most of the people commenting on his propensity for assisting the officials.......at least anytime he's not playing their team.

My post has been modified to now include a smiley  ;)

Nice touch (insert any happy smiley-face that keeps things light).

On a slightly unrelated note, if you came a little bit late to the NPU/Wheaton game, you might of had the opportunity to see a car engulfed in flames across the street just behind the student parking lot.  Quite the sight.
Any NPU folks know the story behind that?

Sean Fendley...that name had a familiar ring, and in checking his profile I was right--his dad Mike Fendley played at Ridgewood HS (Norridge, IL) and later at Triton CC, and I recall quite vividly his draining a last second shot from just above the key (no threes back then) to defeat us (WNHS) by one in the winter of 1971.  I guess he's carrying on the gene pool in a worthy manner.
DKP, I know it was several pages ago, but I was amused by your list of little known spots--my parents owned a home in Grand Detour that they used for short getaways.
Before anyone starts experiencing hyperventilation, tachycardia, and salivation over a new poster, I actually have posted on this forum, although it is probably at least 7 years ago when 2 of my sons were playing CCIW basketball. I still enjoy an occasional webcast of a WC f-ball or b-ball game, and an occasional browse through the CCIW chat, a "lurker" as some of you would say.  As I read through the forum I have to say, with a smile of course, that I am reminded of what soap opera watchers used to tell me--you can miss a few years of episodes and nothing much has changed.
It's a shame that WC folks, for the most part, are too afraid, skeptical, or well educated to ask for divine healing.  Mr. Weile may have been healed and back on the court a long time ago.  :)  I hope the amazing process of "natural" healing is almost complete.  If he is able to return at full strength I think Salem is a realistic possibility for Bill's Boys.

Probably a tailgate party that got out of hand.

....or one of those weekly Covenant Church bonfires.  Let's face it--North Park has done a great job hiding its reputation as a party school for over 100 years, but it appears as though word is finally starting to leak out.

REDMENFAN

Here's the kenosha news article on Saturday's Carthage/Augie game.  Good quotes from Bosko, as well as Steve D. and Senior guard Joe Higgins, which the article made sure to mention the nice job he did in the second half.

Regarding Raymond's discussions with officials, I'd have to say I agree 100% with Sager.

On the one hand, there is no doubt that there were several calls which went his way on Saturday night which clearly should have gone in the opposite direction.  However, I can't believe that anyone in the gym (with the exception of the player given the foul) was all that suprised when the calls came down.  Top players are, historically, given the benefit of the doubt from officials.  I've never agreed with it, in any sport, but it is what it is.

On the other hand, I did notice Raymond complaining quite a bit to officials, and once again agreeing with Greg, the question I think we have to ask is, "Why would he ever stop?"  Clearly, Raymond is a player who knows exactly how far he can push an official before it is time to back it down.  Remember....it's always much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Viking Blue

In terms of the game itself, I can't say I really thought it would be any different of an outcome.  To be honest, as I mentioned to a couple of people at halftime, I was pleasantly surprised with the defensive intensity that the Vikings showed.  It was clear that playing in the Crackerbox was fueling North Park's energy in the first period.

However, Wheaton did what good/great teams do.  They patiently played THEIR game...and when they came out of the locker room to begin the second half, it was clear that there was a heightened sense of urgency.

And suddenly, it was over.  I remember turning to the guy sitting next to me and noting in astonishment, "They've scored 19 points in the first four and a half minutes of this half."

It was almost like watching one of those nature shows and seeing a predator slowly sneak up and devour its prey.  It was only a matter of time.....
