Viking Blue

There were some positives to be taken from this game, though.  As has been discussed on this board before, North Park is a young team and, I think it is safe to say, is going to have a VERY hard time finishing anywhere close to the top of this CCIW in this season.  Therefore, these games are as much about what the young players can take out of them as what the final score is.

It was nice to see Roshawn Russell's confidence appear to return.  You could almost see it begin to slowly come back throughout the course of the game.  During the first half, there appeared to be several open looks that he let go by.  However, by the end of the game, he began attacking the basket again.  Hopefully, this will open up the outside shot for him down the road.

Clayton Cahill is a scorer.  Plain and simple.  It's fun to watch him create.

Sean McNamee has been a pleasant surprise.  In speaking to one of his former Lake Forest coaches, he's a very good kid who deserves a shot to compete, and he seems to be making the most of his chances.

The Vikings will have to get Schniedermeier more involved (although he had a couple of gimmes early off of pick and rolls that he biffed---which may have something to do with why he didn't see the ball as much).

All said, the future is brighter for North Park than maybe the results this year will ultimately indicate.

On a slightly unrelated note, if you came a little bit late to the NPU/Wheaton game, you might of had the opportunity to see a car engulfed in flames across the street just behind the student parking lot.  Quite the sight.
Any NPU folks know the story behind that?

Charcoal Delights was testing a new cooker for its lamb racks. I've heard that gasoline and melting plastic adds a nice tang to a gyros platter.

I am not surprised that there have no been any posts from fellow Elmhurst fans in the last few days.

I find myself repeating that age old saying....."I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."

That is about all I can say until they turn this around.

Wednesday night should be the ideal time for Elmhurst to do that. The Bluejays will play host to an NPU team that is reeling after four straight double-digit defeats and which currently suffers from the sort of crisis of confidence that a young team going through a rough patch typically experiences. Elmhurst has veterans in Ruch, Strzemp, and Burks that should allow the Bluejays to weather their rough patch more easily, particularly since the 'jays will be in the familiar confines of Faganel Hall.

Before anyone starts experiencing hyperventilation, tachycardia, and salivation over a new poster, I actually have posted on this forum, although it is probably at least 7 years ago when 2 of my sons were playing CCIW basketball. I still enjoy an occasional webcast of a WC f-ball or b-ball game, and an occasional browse through the CCIW chat, a "lurker" as some of you would say.  As I read through the forum I have to say, with a smile of course, that I am reminded of what soap opera watchers used to tell me--you can miss a few years of episodes and nothing much has changed.
Hi Paul, I remember speaking with you, of course. Also, was that really seven years ago? That just made me feel incredibly old. :-[

Sean Fendley...that name had a familiar ring, and in checking his profile I was right--his dad Mike Fendley played at Ridgewood HS (Norridge, IL) and later at Triton CC, and I recall quite vividly his draining a last second shot from just above the key (no threes back then) to defeat us (WNHS) by one in the winter of 1971.  I guess he's carrying on the gene pool in a worthy manner.
DKP, I know it was several pages ago, but I was amused by your list of little known spots--my parents owned a home in Grand Detour that they used for short getaways.

It's a shame that WC folks, for the most part, are too afraid, skeptical, or well educated to ask for divine healing.  Mr. Weile may have been healed and back on the court a long time ago.  :)  I hope the amazing process of "natural" healing is almost complete.  If he is able to return at full strength I think Salem is a realistic possibility for Bill's Boys.

I want to thank all of you for the excellent jobs you are doing in relating the games.  I have been unable to get out of the house because of night-time driving issues in bad weather (I can't).  I hope to see one of the games this Wednesday if the streets are clear.

April, The last season the boys played for WC was the '02--'03 season, so I'm assuming that was around the time I may have posted a note or two--maybe it was only 6 years ago. Both Nathan and Taylor are married with 2 kids each, so I AM old.
DGP--sorry for getting your middle initial wrong. We haven't met, but I was an occasional neighborhood playmate of another Parker--Joe Hakes.  HTA, 5th prez of WC is my dad. I was frustrated that the webcast of NPU-WC could not be accessed from Hood River (OR)--I probably signed on too late. Does NPU do webcasts?

No. We use burning cars to send out smoke signals indicating the score. ;)

one of my few +K's for you - dgp   :D

I had to take my son back to North Park on Sunday afternoon.  The street behind the gym, Carmen Avenue, had been plowed by the city, which means, that any cars parked on that street were snowed in, but the alley around his apartment complex had not.  What a joy.  Just getting in to the alley was an adventure.  And unloading his car (he had to make seven trips to his apartment) took over a half-hour because of the courtesy of not continually blocking the drives.  A joy.

I doubt if the folks in Hood River could have seen the smoke from Chicago, but the last time I took the train down the Columbia River gorge there was a spectacular lumberyard fire in Hood River along the river.  The flames leapt over the narrowed river and started small brush fires on the Washington (the train) side and the heat could be felt in the coach cars.  It was at night and the sky was a brilliant orange.

I envy anyone living along the Columbia River Gorge, certainly some of the spectacular scenery in the U.S. and especially at Hood River, where Mount Hood is visible in the background.

I would just like to say that I talk to the Wheaton players and coaches at halftime all the time. How else do you think they've come out of the locker room on fire every game after a frequently lackluster first half?  :-* ;) :D But seriously...

IWU just got dominated at the Shirk Center in the 2nd half.  The Titans go from contenders to pretenders in a hurry.

Very disappointing.
I am not sure the word pretenders is accurate or fair, though I have been having this gnawing feeling like IWU (and really everyone in the CCIW) has been ranked higher than warrented by their roster and record. However, this is still a very good team that has put in a decent showing this season (even just being Wheaton's closest game this season by far is a big deal!), and they will only get better. I am sure IWU will be back to it's annoying place of perpetual excellence in coming seasons. In the meanwhile, as I have been following these statistical ratings: http://talismanred.com/ratings/hoops/divisioniii.shtml... IWU has been down at 40th or so the whole time they were ranked in the Top 25. Fortieth sound about right to me. While they're obviously over ranked, they're still a good squad and a serious threat as they become more experienced this season.

I am sure I will get around to that whole "married with kids" thing eventually... but not soon! Sometimes it's hard to fathom how many years it's been since I've been done with college. In some ways it feels like yesterday, but will be five years in May! Do you and the Mrs. still make trips overseas for medical missions type stuff?

I also want to say thanks to all the posters since Dennis started it. It's nice having AndOne in the rotation of posters as it adds an informed poster from another school that we haven't had a ton of great posters from. It's also nice to have quality Wheaton student posters. It really adds to the diversity of quality game reports available, which in turn makes the season so much easier to follow. I am having a hard time being so far for what will likely be Wheaton's best season in a looong time, and all of your reports make it a little easier.

I wish I could give Greg a K+, but I am still a very new and unexperienced poster and I have almost 100 posts to go before I am worthy of that privilage. :D :P

I am not looking forward to Augie coming to King Arena on Wednesday. This is a great team, but we need Wiele to be worthy of our ranking, and even if he does play, there's the likelyhood of him being a little rusty. Will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

There hasn't been an NCC update this year!  Does anyone know what has happened to AndOne?

funny you mention that Dennis, my grandmother lives in The Dalles, and I've been through Hood River many times (usually with a stop at Char-Burger)......small world.
