A better comparison might be Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins,

I think you mean Cindy Crosby.........as a Red Wing fan, I mean that. :D

As a Blackhawk fan-----------> DE-TROIT SUCKS!

I knew there was something wrong with you but i just couldn't put my finger on now I understand :)

Thanks bg!!!
As with most of us, there is definitely something wrong with me. We can't all achieve perfection as you have!

I will be holding on to the faint hope that we will see him again after 6 games.

If indeed it is a high ankle sprain, then it's likely that your only hope for a Raymond return after six games is a faith healer and anointing oil.

That is why it is faint, but also because we have heard of the injury status through unofficial word of mouth.  I am not doubting the diagnosis (I pointed out early on that it was probably a high ankle spain due to the way it happened and Kent's thinking that he hurt his knee), but with these types of injuries the damage cannot be fully known until the swelling goes down significantly.  Chances are it could be worse than expected than better, but it could go the other way too.  Next week by this time, I think we will all have a better idea of what our chances are for seeing Kent play in the CCIW again.

Absolutely, although I think that aside from the competitive and aesthetic reasons why we non-Wheaton fans should feel badly for Raymond's absence, as a matter of principle we should feel badly for any player from an opposing team who has to miss time due to injury.

I also feel a little badly for the player who will ultimately win the MOP this season (and it's definitely Steve Djurickovic's to lose now), because he'll always have that Raymond cloud hanging over his head. And that's a little unfair; this year's MOP, whether it's Steve D. or somebody else, will be a great player in his own right. Comparisons to Raymond aren't going to come off well for anybody, because I think that you can make a very strong case for the argument that Kent Raymond is the best all-around CCIW player we've seen in decades.

Last night's victory by the North Central Cardinals over the Big Blue of Millikin can best be summarized by one word------>DEFENSE.

*The Cards held MU to 55 points, 13 below their season average.
* In order to score those 55 points, MU had to work extremely hard against NCC's engulfing defensive pressure. They frequently used most of the 35 second clock before being able to get off a shot. The extra effort that was required on offense eventually left MU somewhat fatigued on defense, resulting in several easy baskets for the Cardinals.
*While the defensive effort was intense, it was controlled. The Cards were whistled for just 12 fouls which resulted in only 4 MU free throw attempts for the entire game.
*North Central, which leads the league by forcing an average of 18+ opponents turnovers per game, forced another 18 last night. These 18 TOs resulted in 23 NCC points. NCC committed just 11 TOs. The 7 extra possessions, and the points scored off them, were huge in the Cards final margin of victory. NCC shot almost 58 percent for the game, the result of many layups off both set plays, and off the MU TOs.

Chris Drennan lead the scoring for NCC. He hit on 9/15 from the field and only 1/4 from the line ( :() to finish with 19. Mitch Raridon, 3/6 including 1/2 threes, and 4/4 FTs, added 11 as did Matt Rogers on 4/6 and 3/4 shooting. Reid Barringer, 3/6 including 3/5 on threes and 1/2, tallied 10. With his 3 threes, Barringer, a junior, now has 137 for his career placing him in 4th in NCC history. Dean Prince, playing spectacularly lately, chipped in with 8 on 4/4 shooting, including a couple of beautiful drives down the lane through traffic. Prince, the CCIW assist/TO ratio leader, dished out 3 helpers while not committing a TO.. David Twyman, the defensive star of the night, hit on 3/5 and 1/2 and finished with 7. Twyman held MU all-conference player, Tunde Ogunleye to just 6, or 10 below his season's average.

The Cardinals, the CCIW's only team with a 3-0 conference record besides #1 ranked Wheaton College, travel to Augie Sat night. I believe the keys to a victory in Rock Island will be to maintain their defensive intensity and jump the passing lanes, hit more than 58 percent of their FTs, play good perimeter defense, and especially, to not let Augie win the battle of the boards by a wide margin.

The Thunder, the CCIW's only team with a 3-0 conference  record besides the lower ranked North Central College travel to Milikin Saturday night.  I believe the keys to a vicotry in Decatur will be to maintain their defensive intensity, jump in the passing lanes (?), hit more than 58 percent of their free throws ???, play good perimeter defense (?) and especially not let Milikin win the battle of the boards by a wide margin....Oh yeah i almost forgot it would be nice that the Thunder score more points than the Big Blue.
Sorry AO couldn't resist.

1- what makes Gobcynzski's junior year performance of 976 points all the more remarkable was that in three of those games he scored 0 (zero), 5 and 9.  He had 48 and 42 against North Park.

2- Add Carroll College's Dave Shaw, 1974-77, to the list of CCIW 2000 point scorers.  Shaw played his entire career in the CCIW, and finished second behind Gobo in the number of points scored in CCIW action.  He was the best guard in the league in 1976 and 1977 and averaged 29.1 points per game as a senior in 1977 with 819 points and absolutely no supporting cast.

He finished with 2,563 points in his career.

THis "IS" one of those players that would have greatly benefitted from the three-point shot, as he never went within 25 feet of the basket on the offensive or defensive end of the court, unless it was to shoot free throws, where he was a 90% shooter at the charity stripe.

What's with the capitalized initials. :)
Come on never within 25 feet?   ???  Did he get into bed before the room got dark after swithing off the the lights too? ;D

A big day at Millikin, as the Big Blue women host #1 (in the ESPN/USA Today poll) IWU and then the men face #1 Wheaton...

How do you not mention Kent Raymond's injury in an article like this?  Looks like someone didn't do their homework.

thundermike11

Here's an article on Kent Raymond that talks about him sitting out his sophomore year, among other things.

Planned on being at IWU tonight to watch the local seniors for Elmhurst, but am not gonna make it now due to a virus that hit me Thursday.  Mr. Roberts (can't remember what your sn is here) I had hoped to meet you finally after 4 yrs but will have to make it another time.  Will listen on the net though and even though I'm right up the road from IWU,  GO JAYS!!!!  ;D
