I am not accusing Coach Harris of anything. I was merely reiterating  what another poster indicated previously in stating he heard while listening to the Wheaton radio broadcast. The WC radio team was set up immediately to Harris' left, just a few feet away from the coach. I don't know exactly what he said. Whatever it was, I'd probably consider it mild. And, don't forget, I've already said referee Olson is an egomaniac who has no business officiating as he considers himself the show, rather than the game. So, whatever Harris said, Olson probably deserved it.

The only officials I have had constant complaints about has been K. Faulkner.  Fritz is usually pretty good.

When Elmhurst had their 2 game road trip @ Wheaton and @ Carthage I said to myself these two games are really going to be tough- and determine whether or not Elmhurst will be able to stay in the running.

Looks like EC is playing their best ball right now and in some ways the 2 losses at the beginning (both should have won type of games), may have been the kick in the ___ the Bluejays needed.

Wow the Cardinals sure seem to have Wheaton's number lately.

Q said Harris lost his cool but no one made any insinuation of him using any foul language except you.

Big deal...foul language. On the other hand, very excited about the Buejays. Playing very well in the last few games. Guard turnovers at a minimum, rebounding well, excellent shooting, and playing well on the road make for a winning formula.....Hope they keep it going Saturday at home....

So is the question what I interpreted from Q's remarks or the fact referee Olson was out of his mind and trying to control the game? You know Harris was hot---'"if my wife wasn't there, I would have thrown that chair farther than Bobby Knight."
Coach Harris is fortunate to have such an attentive defender of his moral fiber as yourself. But, he probably doesn't need defending.
Again, Olson deserved whatever he got from any and all who criticized his performance.

AndOne,

I take issue that your interpretation of Q's remarks lead you to say Coach "used language which surely sent shock waves flooding over the WC campus."  While I agree he can get quite animated, I've never heard him say anything that would shock the campus.

Quote from: Viking Blue on January 28, 2009, 11:54:07 PMShould North Park tank the rest of the season and hope to get a high lottery pick?  I've heard there's an 8th grader at Albany Park Multicultural Academy who's thinking of coming out early... could be a game changer right away. (I will NOT reveal my sources on this, Sager.)

I think that the high lottery pick is already NPU's to claim, VB. The question is: Do you go for the APMA eighth-grader who's a proven commodity already on that level, or with the high-potential but barely pubescent seventh-grader from Ames Middle School at Hamlin & Cortland?

I think that Ken Faulkner's one of the better refs in the league in terms of calling a consistent game. But he's another guy who doesn't like to be upstaged by coaches, and he won't hesitate to T you up at a moment's notice, either.

That voodoo doll of Bill Harris that Todd Raridon keeps locked in his desk drawer doesn't seem to have lost one bit of its juju.

While I have never heard Bill Harris use foul language, I have certainly think some of what he says (from a style perspective) would be a shock to many on Wheaton's campus. Remember, he is an ex-marine.  ;) :)

Watch out Greg. Someone like 74impala will be accusing you of anti-Semitic remarks!

USee--

My understanding is that it might not take much to shock the campus!  ;)

Perhaps 74impala can better understand where I was coming from in light of your comments. Thanks for the assist.

74impala---

My apologies for saying anything that caused you to "take issue." Peace be with you.

Come on 74 you don't know AO's intentions so be careful on accusing him or let alone disagreeing with his interpretation.

Coach Harris went nuts and, according to sound bites transmitted over the Wheaton radio station, used language which surely sent shock waves flooding over the WC campus.

So what are you accusing Coach Harris of saying?  I've spoken to several people who listened to the game on WETN and they heard no such language.
Here AO sounds like he actually was listening to the broadcast when that was not the case.  It's pure speculation and imagination on his part.   I would like to hear those sound bites myself since the broadcast I was listening to did not have any such language by anyone.   With WETN's fine broadcast sound in the Hangar I could hear nothing clearly other than the two broadcasters.   So even IF he did use some of Grey's vocabulary it was not that clear or distinguishable.

I don't know maybe Q can fill us in on what the FCC would say about it if one of the 7 deadly words were inadvertently broadcast

Is there seriously still a discussion going on about whether or not a college basketball coach said a bad word?

OOH RAH!

I've told this story on CCIW Chat before, but one of my favorite Bill Harris stories dates back to early in his Wheaton tenure, about '93 or '94 or so. I was sitting in my customary seat in the crackerbox's now-vanished portable bleachers along the west-end baseline about twenty minutes before a Wheaton @ North Park game, idly watching the Crusaders as they took their shootaround. I noticed that instead of the traditional tunic- or jacket-style warmup tops they were all wearing t-shirts that said, "THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL ME MAKES ME STRONGER. WHEATON COLLEGE BASKETBALL 1994" on the front.

I said to one of the Wheaton players as he retrieved a ball at my feet, "Hey, how come basketball players from a Christian school have a quote from an atheist philosopher on their t-shirts?"

He replied with a mumble, "I dunno. Ask our ex-Marine coach."

Listening to WETN.  With 4:11 to play and Wheaton still in the game, Bill Harris really lost his cool...the WETN crew is right next to the Wheaton bench (I've worked from there) and their mics picked it all up.  I have never heard Coach Harris that out of control.

Could be the game.

For the record, I did not hear any "inappropriate" language at all.
