Just don't take her to Charcoal Delights.  The bus may have to drop you off on Rush - Gibson's or Carmine's would be appropriate.

I'm not...

...But, in keeping with the "more fun with numbers" theme, here are the CCIW offensive and defensive efficiencies (points scored and allowed per 100 possessions):

Overall   Offense   Defense
---------------------------
Team       P/100P    P/100P
Augie...... 108.7      93.0
Carthage... 109.7     106.2
Elmhurst... 113.3     103.9
IWU........ 109.3     104.0
Millikin...  98.2      97.7
NCC........ 109.3      99.5
NPU........ 103.8     114.1
Wheaton.... 114.2      93.5

CCIW      Offense   Defense
---------------------------
Team       P/100P    P/100P
Augie...... 104.0      94.1
Carthage... 109.4     109.2
Elmhurst... 112.0     105.1
IWU........ 111.5     112.3
Millikin...  97.3     106.4
NCC........ 108.5     103.9
NPU........  99.5     120.4
Wheaton.... 108.3      97.9
---------------------------
CCIW Avg... 106.3     106.3

For the visually impaired, here is a better way to look at these numbers (thanks DS):

Overall Offense:
Wheaton 114.2
Elmhurst  113.3
Carthage 109.7
IWU/NCC 109.3
Augie     108.7
NPU       103.8
Millkin     98.2

Overall Defense:
Augie      93
Wheaton 93.5
Millikin     97.7
NCC       99.5
Elmhurst 103.9
IWU       104
Carthage 106.2
NPU       114.1

CCIW Offense:
Elmhurst  112
IWU        111.5
Carthage 109.4
NCC       108.5
Wheaton 108.3
Augie     104
NPU       99.5
Millikin    97.3

CCIW Defense:
Augie       94.1
Wheaton  97.9
NCC        103.9
Elmhurst  105.1
Millikin     106.4
Carthage 109.2
IWU        112.5
NPU        120.4

Interesting that the 4 most likely candidates for the conference tourney are the top 4 conference defensive teams to date. I think Augie is likley a little better offensively in conference but for Bertrand's injury. Wheaton is actually pretty close to the next 3 teams in CCIW offense and without Wiele/Raymonds injuries likely would be in the top 3. I think NPU would likely be significantly higher without their injuries/missing players.

Good stuff though.

In looking at the standings and remaining games, it looks to me like IWU's road to the conference tournament is a little more reasonable than I thought.  If the Titans win out, I believe they have a pretty good chance of winning an 8-6 tie-breaker.

Quote from: Titan Q on February 11, 2009, 10:41:33 PM
Wheaton 8-3
Augustana 8-4
Elmhurst 7-4
North Central 7-4
Carthage 6-5
Illinois Wesleyan 5-6
Millikin 4-7
North Park 0-12

Remaining schedules:

Wheaton - @ IWU, @ Carthage, vs North Central
Augustana - @ North Central, @ IWU
Elmhurst - @ North Park, @ North Central, vs Carthage
North Central - vs Augustana, vs Elmhurst, @ Wheaton
Carthage - vs Millikin, vs Wheaton, @ Elmhurst
Illinois Wesleyan - vs Wheaton, @ Millikin, vs Augustana
Millikin - @ Carthage, vs IWU, @ North Park
North Park - vs Elmhurst, vs Millikin

One of those 8-6 tie-breaker scenarios actually involves Augustana.  If Augie loses at North Central tonight and picks up loss #5, and IWU wins out (including a home win vs Augie), both would be 8-6.  In that scenario, IWU would most likely own the tie-breaker via a 1-1 record with Wheaton vs Augie's 0-2.

IWU would also have a decent chance to win 8-6 tie-breakers with North Central and Carthage.  Still way too many scenarios possible to evaluate in detail, but it is reasonable.

The Wheaton @ IWU and Augustana @ North Central games tonight are huge (Elmhurst and Carthage have big games tonight too, but I think they are both big favorites).

IWU's CCIW body of work suggests it is not likely the Titans will win out, but they are definitely still very much alive in the race for the top 4.

RE: IWU winning out.

While it doesn't appear likely, stranger things have happened. At least they can play knowing what they have to do and that they somewhat control their own destiny. It happend last year for NCC if I recall.

While I obviously don't want to see a loss tonight at the Shirk, as I have said, IWU is the one team left on the schedule that I am most worried about. They have a talented backcourt and 2 skilled big guys. In many ways they are a younger version of this Wheaton team. They have to decide to play defense. I have thought this Titan team will wake up one day late this season and put togther a string of games to show how they have matured. I hope it starts on Wednesday.

I think the final spot as well as the 2nd team spots are up for grabs and will depend on how teams fare the next 8 days. If IWU wins out I could easily see Sexauer or another Titan getting the 1st team nod. If Augie makes a run it wouldn't surprise me to see Wessels or someone on there. If Wheaton continues to dominate I think you will see Wiele.

I really can't imagine a 10-4 Augie team with no 1st team all CCIW-player. Whatever the final result I think the final 1st team spot will come from one of the 4 tournament teams this year.

I agree.  I think it will ultimately come down to 4 players - Brett Wessels, Andy Wiele, Ryan Burks, Doug Sexauer (longshot - only if IWU's wins out) - and how each plays, and how their teams fare, in the next week.

Titan Q,
You list 4 players that could be first team, if Wiele is on there why not Rogers ? His numbers are right up there with Wiele but he is shooting better .525 FG and ppg 14.3
I'd really like to agree with you,but then we both would be wrong........

USee---

Actually it was 2 years ago that North Central won out over their last four games. They were 4-6, and beat Carthage, Augie, Elmhurst, and Wesleyan to finish 8-6 and qualify for the CCIW tourney at Augie.

After being picked to finish 6th in the coaches poll this season, the Cardinals are right in the thick of the fight for a conference tourney berth following a must win defeat of Carthage Wed night.
