Dennis---

I appreciate your +K. I'm sure one of the hyenas will negate it soon enough.

As far as smiting any Hall of Famer---I just can't comprehend doing so because of someone's status on the board. That would be equivalent to smiting someone just because he supports a certain school.

Being honest, I didn't realize it was in jest. I just don't wanna play that way regardless. I do appreciate your support.

I hope, you realize, that the part of the post about smiting Hall of Famers was purely in jest (or was it).   ;)  ::)  ;D  :D

Free Speech

Which leads me to my topic of the day.

Several weeks ago I asked regular posters from North Park what their solutions would be for the uncompetitive athletic program of our school.

Two employees of North Park, who were regular, valued contributors to the discussion on this board, challenged me for my solution.  Which I gave.

They chose not to respond.  Which is fine and certainly their perogative.

But what is most disturbing to me, is that from that time forward they have obviously been silenced.  By whom is obvious.  I have often been told by friends that work at North Park that this board is regularly digested by members of the athletic staff.

My question to that athletic staff - is why have you silenced North Park staffers who were regular contributors to this discussion.  It's a free country, and they should be permitted to voice their opinions without fear of censure by you and the school administration.

I know that at least one of those staff members continues to read these pages (because I've seen his name at the top of the page), I do wish they would come back and share with us.  Your opinions and insights as both a close observer and a basketball alum are missed.

Sounds like the recent case where the coach from Boston Collefe was fired by the athletic director for just interviewing with a pro team.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on February 20, 2009, 09:07:11 AMAndrew I am in 100% agreement with you - plus, TQ, when was the last time IWU got shut out in all-conference basketball voting - ain't going to happen.

I do have an IWU player on my proposed All-CCIW team (Doug Sexauer, 3rd Team).  I think IWU's second best candidate is point-guard Travis Rosenkranz:

12.1 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.0 A:TO, tied for league steals lead (1.6 per game)

For me, at the end of the day, just too much inconsistency from Travis, Sean Johnson, John Koschnitzky, and Jordan Zimmer (IWU's other top players, along with Sexauer) to actually put one on the All-CCIW team ahead of the guys I have.  As rough as this season has been, I'm excited they are all coming back though.

With a game to go, I think this is where I am...

1st Team
Kent Raymond (Wheaton, 6-3 Sr.) - M.O.P.
Steve Djurickovic (Carthage, 6-3 So.)
Brent Ruch (Elmhurst, 6-9 Sr.)
Chris Drennan (North Central, 6-5 Sr.)
Ryan Burks (Elmhurst, 6-4 Sr.)

2nd Team

Matt Rogers (North Central, 6-5 Sr.)
Sean Fendley (Carthage, 6-1 Jr.)
Nick Williams (North Park, 6-5 Jr.)
Andy Wiele (Wheaton, 6-8 Sr)
Brett Wessels (Augustana, 6-3 Sr.)

3rd Team
Roshawn Russell (North Park, 5-10 Fr.)
Doug Sexauer (IWU, 6-7 So.)
Tunde Ogunleye (Millikin, 6-2 Sr.)
Ben Panner (Wheaton, 6-3 Jr.)
Chandlor Collins (Augustana, 6-7 Sr.)

I have one contention with what you posted Q.
I don't think Steve Djurickovic is 6' 3" :)

*Here is a perfect example of exactly what is wrong with this site and what I meant a few days ago when I mentioned cowards who sneak on solely to smite someone.
I just had another smite register a short time ago. Clicking on the profile of Wheels81, who I believe may have previously gone by something like bgbigbully, reveals he was last active today at 9:43 AM, but that his last post was last night at 8:08 PM. As he has been on of my chief protagonists lately, I don't think its much of a stretch to assume his latest log on was solely to, lets say smite and run. No post, nothing to say, just a ding and then slink away again.

To borrow and paraphrase the words of the scoundrel Archibald Cunningham from the movie 'Rob Roy'------Your cowardliness, and lack of constructive criticism and fair play are but a dunghill, and you, sir, are but a cock who climbs on it to crow!

AO you really need to get some help!  Is there a doctor in the house?  Just for posting my profile -K to you.

Five people have smited you in the past 24 hours. Perhaps there's a bigger problem here than one person.

By the way, reading the board registers you as active. I hope you don't have a problem with people just reading and not posting.

Pat---

I absolutely have no problem with people just reading and not posting. However, would they need to sign on to just read? Isn't that more often done in "guest" status and then you sign on if you want to post?

I'm sure there is more of a problem than one person. We all know people come on and smite someone just because they don't like the school he supports, or they don't like the "style" of his posts, or for a variety of reasons that have little to do with facts, but more so with personalities. One of the disadvantages of being the sole supporter of a school is that is you tick off someone from a school that has several supporters/posters, you risk getting burned by his buddies or by those who you may have ticked off a while ago and see a chance to jump on the bandwagon.

Whats the problem? Anyone can look at your profile anytime.
I notice you chose to criticize me for posting what anyone can see anytime rather than disputing the information I cited in my post.
The quote at the end of your profile is certainly true---You are what you are.   :)

AndOne,
There is the option of being signed in "forever" which makes it a bit more easy to simply stay logged on rather than having to sign in everytime.  One less hassle.  I would usually appear to be active, because I don't sign off, and usually leave this page up, as it is a nice diversion during the cold winter months here while working on a computer most of the day.
Anyways, it is just Karma, and the chat boards here are far better than the ones that you come across on espn or other sports sites.  There, people just hate on others, using every name in the book to put down other teams and other teams fans.  Here that is rare, and even the past few days pales in comparison to what you see there.  Someone dings you.  Oh well.  Maybe they don't like NCC, as you suggest.  If you know that is part of the reason, then why get so worked up over it? Karma is just a number, and I don't take notice of it unless someone has a very high negative number, which you are no where close to.  If you think your Karma reflects your character (or misrepresents), then I think you are off base.  Those of us who read this chat board know the character of those on here by their posts (at least their internet character).  Only the very occasional reader would see someone losing some Karma points and think that person must be a bad person.
We are talking sports, and Karma is based on that starting point, and not your personal character.  Losing karma does not mean you like trip old ladies as they cross the street.

No.

If you log in you get to see who else is logged in, you get to see everyone email address, you get the NEW icons on the board index pages telling you what you haven't read, etc. The only reason to read in guest status is if you need to lurk for some reason.

"But I dont like Augustana"

when I was CCIW publicity director I used to have to attend the annual meeting each year, held on the Friday night at the site of the outdoor track meet.

One year I took my wife, and daughter, and we stayed overnight and went to the track meet on Saturday.

Where my wife had to remind me several times in the strongest possible words not to root against Augustana, and to stop cheering for the North Central kids when they beat someone from Augie.

"But I dont like Augustana," I explained.

"ssh, you're supposed to be neutral"

"Bit I just dont like them."

Sorry - 25 years later (40 years later) and some things never change.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I'm sure this post will cause a few replies but I'll send it thru anyway.

ODDS FOR D3 TOURNEY

WHEATON - I think they are in.  Even if they lose their next two games.
ELMHURST - a virtual lock if they beat Carthage Saturday.  Another win or two wouldn't hurt.
NORTH CENTRAL - need to win CCIW tourney.
AUGUSTANA - need to qualify for and win CCIW tourney.
CARTHAGE - need to qualify for and win CCIW tourney.

I wish all 5 could make it.  I think they are among the 60 best D3 schools in the nation.

Naper----

I think you're right on here. I certainly agree ALL 5 are among the 60 best.

The other 3 schools in the CCIW are not so bad either.  I think Millikin and IWU would be challenging for many D3 conference titles this year.  North Park would be in the middle of the pack in many conferences.  The CCIW is a very tough league and you can't take a night off.
