This is a kid quite a few CCIW teams were on...

I've seen that kid a few times the last couple of years and that is a loss for CCIW fans.  He is good and looks better every time I see him.  It feels like he is not even close to peaking.  Parkside's gain, our loss.

We see this frequently. Players who could be stars at the DIII level end up going higher--especially "bigs"---and end up never being heard from again as they languish at the end of of a DII, or even a DI bench. Although from a family and financial standpoint, it certainly is difficult to pass on a scholarship offer, especially in these difficult economic times.

**While we're on the subject----EXPECT to see some other players, heavily
pursued this season by several CCIW and other midwestern DIII schools, end up in DII or smaller DI programs. I'm already aware of at least 3 or 4 players who are evidently headed in that direction. All would be great DIII players, but are questionable higher level performers.**

I think that's a good point AndOne.  School costs are about the only thing consistently going up these days.  It's getting tougher and tougher to afford these schools we all love.  It's got to be a tougher sell than it's been in quite a while for these schools.  People's portfolios and real estate just don't hold the value they did even a year ago.  I can see where a borderline admit case would/could be wooed by a DII ride.  It will be interesting to see how the CCIW's recruiting efforts shake out for next year.

Great news for Augie on the recruiting front. Coach G got a commitment from Morton's Luke Scarlata last night. Scarlata's a 6-8, 235-pound center and was MVP of the Proviso West holiday tournament, where Morton beat 4A state champ Whitney Young by 20 points. He was a three-time all-area player and averaged about 14 points and 11 rebounds this year for a very balanced Morton team. It sounds like his choice came down to Augie and Loyola. Luke's commitment is a great start to this year's recruiting class.

Chalk up a recruiting win for Augustana's medical school. ;) :D

I always thought Augie only had a school of veterinary medicine. After all, they DO have an equestrian team. Did anyone know this?

Maybe Luke was confused after Coach G's crafty recruiting pitch?

So is he a basketball recruit, or at 6'8" 235 is he one of the horses on the equestrian team?

Hoping to start a nice little offseason topic....

Who is your "second" CCIW team and why?

For me, it is North Park.  I have always had a soft side for them.  I respect that they represent the City of Chicago and, in particular, my favorite area of the city.

I'd be interested to hear what everyone else has to say on this.

Wow..... great recruit for Augie!

Scarlata had been looking at Loyola, SIU-Edwardsville, and IWU in addition to Augie.  Evidently he visited the campus last weekend and he and his family came away very impressed.  He made his decision 3 days later.

Anyone have any insight into who may be the starting five for Augie come next year?

Contrary to Bob Sakamoto's report in the Sun-Times, Chicago was very much in the mix for Scarlata as well.

During the UConn/MSU game, an announcer mention that UConn's Adrien entered elite company with >1,500 points and >1,000 rebounds during his collegiate career.

So, my question to you, what CCIW stars have also reached those two goals?

Thanks in advance.

Only three from Augie:
1. Steve Snow (1965-69) 1595/1152
2. John Laing (1969-73) 2035/1330
3. Bruce Hamming (1971-75) 1668/1060

Likewise 3 from IWU:

Jack Sikma (73-77) 2272/1405
Greg Yess (78-82) 1833/1068
Sheldon Thompson (67-71) 1573/1069

[I was surprised Zach Freeman (03-07) didn't make it; he easily had the points, but 'only' 819 rebounds.]
