Has anybody glanced at the teams' overall non-con skeds?  I'd be interested to see how people think that each team will fare.

I ask that because it has top 25 implications at least down the road.  No top CCIW team has had more than 3 losses in at least the last decade.  Now, of course, that's the end of the season, not the beginning (goes back to my comment that a team (or teams) will rise to the top.  But if CCIW teams come in at 9-2 or 10-1 by the new year, they'll definitely show up in the ranking.  Heck, last year at the new year at least 6 or 7 CCIW teams were getting votes (though this may have had more to do with voter confusion, due to certain teams not living up to expectations and others doing better than they thought).

Heh, great minds, GS...!  It isn't the entire schedule, of course, but it does make the same point I was trying to make.  Those are lose-able games... so those are all games that would drive the CCIW teams farther from a top 25 place in the poll.

Based on TitanQ's data regarding lost production, coupled with the sprinkling of other info, I too do not see a single CCIW squad having Top 25 talent on paper.
Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

AndOne,

I have been accused of green-tinted glasses (an obvious calumny! ;D), but you won't hear any complaints from me.  Last year I got a bit carried away with the Titan potential (and, having seen the Fab Five make the D1 finals with five freshmen), forgot that freshmen and sophomores usually play like freshmen and sophomores!  I have hopes that the Titans may be a power by the end of the season, but would be highly surprised if they crack the top 25 before January (if ever).

That may be true for the preseason poll, but history says it ain't really a Top 25 if there are NO CCIW teams in it! :D  Someone's gonna rise up; it will be fascinating to see who.

CCIW pre conference schedules aren't exactly against the top 10 teams....ok WashU this year.  But other than that....Monmouth, illinois college., etc.  Not going to get top rankings in Nov-Dec. with a strength of schedule like that.  But in defense of the CCIW....not too many teams want to play CCIW in Nov-Dec.   We use to play NAIA schools but it doesn't help our rankings if we win and it hurts it if we lose.  So forget about NAIA during pre-season...unless it's exhibition. The CCIW proves itself strong Jan-Mar every season.

This is where I see things for IWU here in the first week of practice...

G - Travis Rosenkranz, 6-0 Jr (Sean Dwyer, 5-10 Sr)
G - Sean Johnson, 6-1 Jr or Jordan Zimmer, 6-5 So
F - John Koschnitzky, 6-6 So (Matt Schick, 6-4 Jr)
F - Doug Sexauer, 6-7 Jr (Duncan Lawson, 6-7 Jr)
C - Ryan Connolly, 6-9 So or Edmond O'Callaghan, 6-7 Jr

Two wildcards in the post right now appear to be:

* Dan Schouten (F), 6-5 So - injured his entire IWU career but now healthy and playing well
* Tyler Bontemps (F), 6-4 So - transfer from Lincoln Land...I guess this kid is a physical specimen, kind of a 6-4 version of Sean Dwyer...a darkhorse to sneak into the mix

6-9 sophomore center Eric McCullough is progressing after off-season surgery...he's another wildcard if they can get him healthy.  Sophomore PG Eliud Gonzalez is also coming off surgery at the end of last season (knee).

Also hearing good things about two of the freshmen - 6-2 SG Dan Oswald (Riverside-Brookfield) and 6-7 post Kevin Reed (Prospect).  I'd expect both to start on the JV team this year.  Reed could get into the varsity mix though with the questions in the post...seems to me he'd have to beat out the Lawson/Schouten/Bontemps group at the backup 4 spot.

AndOne....The most accurate non biased evaluation of the cciw I've seen yet.   Great job.  Look out though...the Titan guys will be out soon, and jumping all over this one.
Good overall evaluation by And One.  I generally agree with it.

I'd add to the Wheaton assessment a coaching change as another 'unknown' factor.

If I gave a Top 25 vote, it would be to Auggie.   Coach G always seems to find a way to work with, and get results out of,  the talent he has on hand.  Do I think Auggie is a Top 15 team? No.

Maybe, just maybe, Carthage and IWU could be among 'other teams receiving votes'.   As the case with pre-season polls, the vote in the 16-25 spots often comes down to 'potential' rather than 'experience'.

Admittedly, I might feel differently about IWU had both one of the "5" candidates made a stronger performance statement last season and 1-4 spots were more decided than appears to be the current case.

John Gleich

I think the Carthage/UW Platteville game will be a litmus test for both teams pretty early on.  Platteville lost their All-Conference point guard and All-American center from last year's team that took Wheaton to OT in the second round... but they have seven seniors again this year.  They've got some questions, but it is NOT in the guard-play, by and large.  I think this should be a good matchup... if it wasn't on the opening weekend of hunting season, I'd be heading to Kenosha for this game.  Instead I'll be up north of Wausau... Oh well!

A very nice honor for Augie SID Dave Wrath - one of the real good guys in the CCIW.

From everything I've heard - well deserved.

As a Titan, I'm almost embarassed we wrecked their Homecoming game! ;)

Zimmer will start!

Something better change - unfortunately, the answer is NOT Zimmer.
How about some toughness and leadership to go along with the shooting?
How about some defense?

This lineup has not worked for 2 years running..
The entire starting lineup needs to change

Actually, the fourth starter that Augie lost was Jordan Delp. Brett Wessels was the sixth man last season.
