I also know a lot of kids that sit the bench all 4 years who would dominate the CCIW.

Brandon Holtz...ISU. All American in DIII.  But he got 4 years paid for and played at a higher level of competition.

My point is there is a big difference. And looks are not offers.

Brandon Holtz is the perfect example of a kid who would have been a great D3 player...but barely took his warmups off at Illinois State his senior year.

I don't question any kid/family who decides to take a scholarship, by the way.

CCIWFAN3

Oh I know you don't.  But come on man....ya gotta give me some names of 1A Division I players.

I really don't think there are any!

CCIWFAN3

Dont mean to change the subject...but nobody is giving me any names anyway...so....what does everyone think of the All Star game instead of the 3rd place game during the Final Four?

I'm a 4A guy (Brother Rice).  Despite many years living in central Illinois, I'm no expert in knowing who is 1A and who is 2A.  Maybe my father (Pinckneyville H.S.) can help.

Two years ago I saw a game at "Billtown" - I sure hope that is the smallest IHSA classification.

CCIWFAN3

Brother Rice.  Tom Richardson Country!

Well Pickneyville sent someone to SLU in 2008.  But then again...they are 2A.

A good friend of mine is from Nashville.  That's bball country.

any dI's from these schools?

I didn't see any schools Q mentioned on that list (though BlueJay21 already gave you two names you accepted).  From a big school perspective (Peoria Richwoods, 1966 - with about 2500 students, I'd imagine we were one of the 5 biggest at the time), all those little schools look the same! :D

And don't you go bad-mouthing those Cobden Appleknockers! #2 in the all-division playoffs in 1960! ;D  [They coulda been been Hoosiers before Hoosiers!]  (Anyone know if any of the 6'6" guys played college bball?)

Here are a few:

Nate Mitchell, SIU--Carrier Mills
Carlton Fay, SIU--Putnam Co. (whom BlueJay21 already mentioned)
Cody Rinker, SIUE--Stewardson-Strasburg
Zavion Neely, UIC--Chicago Hope

Hardly an exhaustive search.

Trying to construct my all-IWU Class A squad.  The 8-man rotation is pretty solid...

G Travis Rosenkranz ('11) – Macon-Meridian
G Steve Czirjak* ('93) – Danville-Schlarman
F Mark Edmundson ('90) - Arthur
F Greg Yess* ('82) - Princeville
C Jack Sikma* ('77) – St. Anne

Bench:
C Bill Braksick* ('88) - Flanagan
F Keith Luechtefeld ('87) – Okawville
G Jason Fisher ('06) - Delavan

* = 1st Team All-CCIW

Titan Q

I like my 2A squad as well...

G Brian Martin ('93) - Paxton-Buckley-Loda
G Mark Aubry ('95) - Seneca
F Blaise Bugajski* ('84) - Bloomington Central Catholic
F Brent Niebrugge* ('98) - T-Town
C Luke Kasten* ('03) - Hillsboro

G T.J. Posey ('95) - Prairie Central
G Bob Quillman ('57) - Pinckneyville
F Todd Wente ('01) - Effingham St. Anthony

I'm sure I've missed a lot of former Titans during this little exercise...my apologies to all.

re: the d-3 vs. d-1 debate, as someone who went through this process and had friends and teammates go through it, I have a bit of perspective on the issue. There are a lot of kids who can't pass up the opportunity to get school paid for no matter what the circumstances. There are also a lot of people that want the prestige of being on a d-1 team no matter how much, or little, they actually get to play. I had friends that went to some smaller d-1's, places like UNC-Charlotte and Pacific out in California. They rode the pine for 4 years, some of these guys were better players than me coming out of high school. When we would play pickup games back in Omaha after or senior year, our even during the summer between our junior and senior year, I had surpassed them pretty handily and I attrbute it to actually getting to play in 100 real basketball games during that time while they played a few minutes each season. If you're a clear cut star or even get an offer at a big time program like UNC or UCLA, it's obviously in your interest to take it. If you have a marginal offer but care about becoming the best player you could be, it might behoove you to check out a d-3, naia, or d-2 program where your chance to play is more likely. Just my two cents, each person is obviously going to be different and have different needs/wants.
