OurHouse, please tighten up your talking points.  I'm never quite sure what the Big 4 are since they change from post to post.  I'm have a Successories poster made and need to know what to include.  Thanks.

Q, maybe he sells that stuff.

On a 5 point scale...
Intensity-4
Desire-3
Heart-3
Leadership-3
Defense-2
Focus-1
Toughness-1
Passion-1
Work Ethic-1
Hustle-1

So, Q I would recommend the main motivational shirt to extoll the virtues of:
INTENSITY
DESIRE
HEART
LEADERSHIP

Perhaps if you only wanted to halfway motivate those with a t-shirt you would go with thESE:
TOUGHNESS
PASSION
WORK ETHIC
HUSTLE

Ahhhhhhh - finally you red necks are seeing the light..
This is EXACTLY what it takes to WIN a National Championship!!

Not sure why but this made me think of the Steve Martin SNL skit where he is sharing his Holiday wishes and changes it about 5 times.

Mr. Ypsi

Pre-season AA selections are up.  Steve D was the only conference player - 2nd team.

At first I was surprised he was only 2nd team, but kinda hard to keep either of the WashU guards off first team.

Aaaahhhhh.  A new page.  Fresh wind.....er, air.  No talk of the legitimacy or lack thereof in the basketball world of states that bear little significance for our beloved CCIW.  Any other school's versions of NPU's Blue/Gold (about we've heard conspicuously little.....) and IWU's Green/White games that have happened out there?

There wasn't really much to say about the Blue/Gold scrimmage, because an intrasquad scrimmage that's held that early doesn't really tell you much aside from which returnees have gotten bigger or taller or which newbies have athleticism and/or basic skills. It wasn't much more than an open gym game, only with official practice jerseys.

Monday's scrimmage against Benedictine was more substantial in terms of what it revealed about NPU (aside from the fact that the Vikings have a lot of work to do, of course), and the scrimmage against Lake Forest this Saturday in the crackerbox will tell us even more. What I will say at this point is that the player whom I think has made the most improvement, and who has great potential for becoming a breakout player either this season or next, is Issa Avery. Also, Mark Erickson asked me a couple of weeks ago who the best defensive guard for NPU was. I suggested that it might be the newcomer from UW-Eau Claire, Davone Robinson, and after seeing the intrasquad contest and the scrimmage against Benedictine I'm now sure of it. He's a tough customer at the defensive end of the floor, something that the Vikings have seriously lacked since the days when Antonio Stevens was suiting up.

From what I've seen and heard, I would agree with both those personnel assessments.  What is the timing on the Lake Forest exhibition?

Greg, I just realized I didn't answer your "How did you arrive at these?" question.  I'd say I pulled these numbers from the same place I did my 2010 CCIW predictions and my position-by-position starter rankings.

Well Augie, not surprisingly, got a good test up at Platteville last night. The Pioneers won both halves, 37-32 and 37-31.

The Vikings went with the starting lineup that I predicted to one of the parents earlier this week:

1. Brian DeSimone
2. Matt Pelton
3. Troy Rorer
4. George Dexter
5. Kyle Nelson

The offense is ahead of the defense at this point. I thought, for the most part, they executed the offense pretty well, getting the opportunities they wanted. Unfortunately they missed several layups in the first half and 10 free throws in the two halves combined. But, they shot 48% (only 1-for-8 from 3, though), got to the line 28 times, only turned it over 11 times and won the rebounding battle, 28-24.

Individually, Kyle Nelson had 15 and, like others on here have predicted, looks like he's going to have a big year. Troy Rorer had 13 and Matt Pelton had 10.

There's work to do defensively. UWP, who's very good and very experienced on the perimeter, was really efficient on offense, especially in the second half. UWP's Mike Shaw really lit it up in the first half with 17 points. He finished with 25. Curt Hanson and Nick Allen are very good also and were in double figures. With the loss of Jeff Skemp, the Pioneers don't have the post presence they had last year, but Eric Wall did a nice job inside for them. I think he had about a dozen points and nine boards. I think the Pioneers got all their points from six players.

All-in-all a great test. The youngsters looked great at times and like youngsters at others. No surprise there.

petemcb

I know there's another board for this, but seeing Skemp's name brought him back to mind.  Does anyone know whether's he's playing anywhere this year?
