Even as an Augie fan I do not know anything about the Norton story, other than what has been said here to the effect that he apparently led NCC and some other unidentified school to believe they were in the running for his services. At least he didn't pull an Eric Gordon and commot to one school and then renege at the last minute leaving the rejected school high and dry.

Took in the scrimmage in the city last night between North Central and a much taller and "beefier" U of Chicago team.
Rather than resetting the score at the end of the 1st half as usual in a scrimmage, the 1st half score remained on the board.
Chicago led 45-36 at the half on the strength of strong inside play and good outside marksmanship. The 2nd half, largely featuring the same first 8 or so players for both teams, saw NCC outscore the Maroons by 13 to take an 81-77 decision.
Keying the Cards 2nd half turnaround was the superior defensive play of jr transfer Mike Saris. He blanketed the Maroons' PG, effectively disrupting the offensive flow that had led to their 9 point halftime advantage. The other Cards also bore down harder defensively in the 2nd stanza despite giving away as much as 3 inches and 20-30 pounds in many match ups.
North Central shot 57 percent (24/42) from the field including 47 percent (8/17) from beyond the arc. They cashed in at an 80.8 percent rate (21/26) from the line. The Cards turned the ball over 11 times, not bad at this early point in the season.
The Cards were led in scoring by senior Reid Barringer who dropped in 27 including 6 for 9 from downtown. He was well supported by both senior Kyle Julius (2 long 3s) and freshman Derek Raridon with 13 apiece. Senior vet David Twyman slashed through and around the Maroon defenders for 11 on 5 for 7 shooting, and freshman Brandon Stanciel hit on 4 of his 6 attempts that featured a mix of nice turnaround bank shots and strong inside moves against a much bigger defender. Brian Evans contributed 6 points and dazzled the "crowd" with both a dribbling display while on his knees after winning a hard fought rebound, and a couple of no look over the shoulder and behind the head passes.
Didn't know the Harlem Globetotters were in Naperville!  :)

Actually, the performance took place at the Ratner Center at the Univ. of Chicago.
But yes, who woulda thunk it?  :)

Darned if I can find it in the rulebook, but, having worked at the scorer's table for several years for both the NPU men and the NPU women, I can tell you that officials from both sports have repeatedly insisted that NCAA rules require that the score be reset at the end of each half in a scrimmage.

It was definitely the first time I've ever seen it done that way.

Anyone going to games over the weekend?
(there...I changed the subject)

I'm keeping the book for the NPU women's opener in the crackerbox against Benedictine on Sunday, so I have to miss the NPU @ MSOE men's contest.

Augiefan---

Thats exactly the story I got.
And to those of you concerned at all, I'd like to point out that I never accused Mr. Norton of any wrongdoing, intentional or otherwise. I only reported was was related to me by coaches at 2 separate schools. My post was intended only be informational as opposed to accusatory. I'm sorry if anyone took it otherwise.

While we're on the subject, I think that as the season approaches, we all need to be a little less sensitive. Otherwise, what should be free exchanges and open discussions will merely deteriorate into hostility and K wars. Perhaps if you're not sure what someone is saying, it might be a good idea to ask, either on the board or in a personal note. Peace.   :)

We are going to have to agree to disagree because the wide range between our opinions could fill several pages!  Good Luck this year

I agree!
Good luck to you also.
And please review my above post.
Over & out.

I'm completely agnostic on the subject of what Kameron Norton said and to whom, but what I do know is that I'd be wary of calling out the grandson of the heavyweight champion of the world. ;)

I had no idea that is who was being discussed (Norton is hardly a rare last name).  Just in case Ken misunderstood AndOne's posts, I hope our friend AndOne survives! ;D

Lastly, your comment about "young men who have not chosen to go the Naperville route" is laughably absurd, especially considering the fact he was not recruited by the "Naperville school" as he couldn't qualify academically. Accordingly, there was no choice involved.  ;)

So are you saying that he was admitted and qualified at Augie, but would not have qualified at NCC?  I must be misunderstanding something, because, with all due respect to NCC, Augie's academics, by reputation, are at least the equal of NCC's, right?

AndOne

Pete---

Yes, you are mistaken. But its easy to understand why in this case. There was discussion about two different people in the same post. So, with regard to your question:
1. Augie's and NCC's academics are indeed very close.
2. The other player that was referenced (not Norton) did not qualify at NCC, and most likely Augie, but is currently at Carthage, and is a member of their basketball team.

Hope that clears things up.

Uncle Harry's team got the job done tonight.  Congrats to him and my Aunt Rose.  Now back to your regularly scheduled CCIW programming.

Well Carthage suffered a huge blow to their CCIW chances. I have heard from numerous reliable sources that Sean Fendley will not be playing this year for the Red Men due to off the court issues. If this is true that is horrible news for the boys from Kenosha. I just keep hoping it's not true tho..Fendley was probably my second favorite non Bluejay in the CCIW.

Although I hadn't heard what the final determination would be, I had heard reports of an incident involving Fendley as well.

Very surprised. Doesn't sound like the Sean Fendley I have followed since his junior year of high school.
Maybe he underwent a transformation up there in God's country. Perhaps too much Leinenkugels?

Looks pretty official though as Fendley's name has been removed from the roster on the Carthage basketball web site. Cody Hilton to the rescue?
