Izzy--

The figures I used are from the AC and NCC web sites. You indicated the figures you used are from 2008.
Here are the figures directly from the CURRENT Augie web site:

Standardized tests

Augustana currently accepts scores from either the ACT or SAT I. If you have taken a test multiple times, we will consider your highest composite score. The middle 50% of Augustana students score between a 23 and 28 on the ACT.

****************************************************************

There is no possible way you can substantiate your statement "if Augie is placed in NCC's category they probably rank in the top 5.

As far as I can tell, Augie does not offer any Masters degree programs. North Central offers Masters degrees in Business Administration, Education, Leadership, Liberal Studies, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

Sure, I can.  I cannot prove it because you cannot use the peer assessment score, but just glance at ACT, freshmen retention rate, acceptance rate, % of student in top 25% of high school class of the the schools in NCC's category and Augie is probably around #3.  (The #1 school in NCC's category has an ACT interquartile range of only 24-29).  Whether or not Augie has any graduate programs is irrelevant.  These are purely undergraduate rankings and the graduate programs have nothing to do with the scores other than deciding how to group the schools.

I agree that the Forbes rankings are pretty useless.
The US news data I used is the 2010 edition which takes admission data from the 2008 entering class. NCC and Augie both use the "Common data set" where you can get the exact numbers from last year. Schools usually don't make available entering class data until the following spring.   I think we are actually looking at the same numbers which for Augie are actually 23.2 and 28.5.

http://www.augustana.edu/Documents/ir/public/08%20CDS2008_2009.pdf
http://northcentralcollege.edu/x7523.xml

In addition, Augie's site has data going back three more years with ranges of 23-29, 24-29, 24-29.   Looking at the numbers over the last few years, I highly doubt NCC has ever had a year where 25% of incoming student score  29 or above.  I could be wrong though.
http://www.augustana.edu/x3148.xml

Last year 9.8% of NCC students scored between 30 and 36. compared to 14 % of Augie students.  57% of NCC students scored above 24 compared 68% for Augie.

My statement that Augie is 1-2 tiers above NCC was based mostly on my experience in how schools are perceived in looking at students for graduate school. Right or wrong as that may be, the numbers that you have forced me to look up seem to support that 1 tier is about right.

US news determines selectively (based on class rank, ACT, acceptance rate etc), puts schools into 1 of only 4 categories, and ranks North Central a tier below Augustana.  Doesn't that support my statement just a little.... maybe?  I hope it makes my statement less than laughable?   Reputation can always be debated to no end, but their selectively classification is only based on objective data.

In summary, there is just no way that "Augie is 1-2 tiers above North Central" as laughably proposed earlier. The CCIW is composed of 8 very good schools with probably not much of a difference between them.

This statement is just terribly incorrect again and is starting to show me that you are really just not that well-informed on the subject.  Academically, for a small school conference, the CCIW actually has a moderate to high degree of variability from top to bottom in comparison with others.    This is not to say you cannot get a good education at any CCIW school.

Final from Milwaukee...

MSOE 79
North Park 67

At the start of the 2nd half, MSOE quickly erased North Park's 6-point haltime lead and controlled the second 20 minutes.  The Vikings had it down to 2 with a few minutes left, but seemed to give up open layups on 3 consecutive possessions right after that (per MSOE broadcast).  North Park also missed several FT's down the stretch.

CCIW 0-1 on the season.

Carthage is putting a hurting on a solid D3 program, Transylvania.  It's 40-15 at halftime in Kenosha.

The two Red Men freshmen low-post starters (Raul Guzman and Tyler Pierce) have accounted for 22 points and 9 rebounds so far, and are a combined 8-9 from the field.  Guzman is 4-4 from 3 so far in his collegiate debut.  Impressive!

Jays win the first game of the season at Hamline.  Believe it was 79-70.  No stats out yet.

magicman

llinois Wesleyan up 81-65 over Benedictine with 6 minutes to go in the game.

Final...

IWU 89
Benedictine 79

* Doug Sexauer: 25 pts (11-14 FG)
* Sean Johnson: 20 pts, 3 reb, 3 assists
* Ryan Connolly: 12 pts, 5 reb (in just 7 minutes)
* John Koschnitzky: 9 pts, 8 reb
* Edmond O'Callaghan: 8 pts, 5 reb

The Titans shot 60% from the field, 42% from 3, and 74% from the FT line.  Scoring the basketball is not going to be a problem for the Titans most nights this season.  The Titans just have so much talent, skill, and depth on the offensive end.  Not gonna win the CCIW allowing the opponent to score 79 points though (BU shot 48% from the field).  That side of the floor will remain the big question for this group.

Great production out of the center platoon - 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5-7 FG, 10-12 FT from the Edmond O'Callaghan/Ryan Connolly duo.  Connolly is 6-9/275 this season, after shedding 15 pounds in the off-season.  Physically, he looks like a different player this year (#52)...

http://www.iwusports.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball&

Sounded like BU had no answer for Doug Sexauer.  The Titans had trouble with Rob Bridgeman, a 6-5 outside/inside player, who had 22 points.

Benedictine was 19-6 last year and is picked to win the NAC this year.  Not a bad "W" to start the year with.

Jays stats are up.  I was only able to catch the tail end of the game when the Jays already had it sealed . Jays were down early and then tied it up at half.  About 7 minutes into the second half they took control and kept at least a 5 point cushion the rest of the way.

For the Jays, Childs and Boyd led the way.  Childs with 21 points on 7/10 shooting
                                                                   Boyd with 15 on 6/10 shooting

Boyd was also the high rebounder with 6.

Only 2 in double figure scoring for Hamline.  Wenrich with 11 (all ft's)
                                                                     Hipp with 24 on 8/14 shooting and 20 rebounds...

Roster says Hipp is 6'8'' and 225.  Jays are going to need the young bigs to step up and control the paint a little bit better...

Viking Mike

DanSand/Dan,

I was just looking for the link to the Augie basketball game broadcast.  I could only find the stat site.

You are broadcasting the Viking games again this year, right?
If so, is there a certain link to look for?

Thanks, Mike

Jordan Zimmer only had 3 pts in 19 minutes????

From listening to the game and looking at the boxscore, it seems like IWU was intent on pounding the ball inside vs Benedictine.  51 of IWU's points were scored by guys who play the 4 and 5.  Jordan Zimmer only took 3 3's today.

Zimmer will have plenty of games this year where he'll get a bunch of good 3-point looks.

The IWU/BU boxscore...
