Are you joking me right now? After they lost kent caveman, Wheaton is certainly going downhill. Let's apply some basic 8th grade statistics (which I'm sure we all know):

Wheaton  <  Hope
Hope < Carthage

Therefore, Wheaton < Carthage.

Interesting... but by the same method:

Carthage < Calvin
Calvin < Wheaton

Therefore, Carthage < Wheaton.

You realize that you're arguing with someone who has "Bo's Elementary School" and "Steve D all by himself" ranked ahead of Wheaton, don't you?

People remarking about Wheaton's ranking should consider posting a list of 20 or so teams that are demonstrably better than Wheaton. I'm having a hard time deciding that when it comes to my ballot.

I agree Wheaton is too high. Who should be in all those spots above them and why?

Wheaton would not even be a top 8 team if they used 8 players!

Here is my list of 20:

Wash U
John Carroll
St. Thomas
Carthage
UW-Point
UW-Whitewater
Guilford
Middlebury
Dartmouth
Dallas
Chapman
Augie
Amherst
Brandeis
St. Norbert
Stockton
Mississippi College

What have, for example, Middlebury, Mass-Darmouth, Texas-Dallas, Augustana, Brandeis and Richard Stockton done this year to state for certain they are better than Wheaton?

To say nothing of Bo's Elementary School.

North Central 76
Lake Forest 68

Derek Raridon led the Cards with 23 points (only 4-14 from the field, but 14-15 from the FT line) and 10 rebounds, while Reid Barringer had 16 and David Twyman had 14.

I didn't see the game, but by following it on Live Stats I'm guessing (and AndOne can confirm or deny this) that the key to the win for NCC was at the defensive end, specifically the denial of entry passes into LFC's talented big man Travis Clark. Brandon Stanciel fouled out trying to guard him, but in the end Clark (17 pts, 11 rebs) only got off nine shots on the night and went to the line six times. Given that he was the obvious mismatch in LFC's favor, I'm betting that Foresters coach Chris Conger was pushing his boys to get the ball into the post on every possession. The fact that they couldn't was probably why NCC won the game.

North Central was down early, 13-12, but went on an impressive 19-point run over a six and a half minute span of the first half, and LFC never got within six points after that. NCC put on a clinic at the free-throw line at the end of the game, going 12-14 over the last 1:22.

No Kyle Julius for the Cards tonight, which makes this win over the 2-6 Foresters more impressive than it would otherwise appear.

Was Kyle's absence injury-related or something else?

Gregory Sager

We're probably going to have to wait for AndOne's report to find out about Julius.

Elmhurst romps over Fontbonne, 91-67, at Faganel Hall. Dustin Bainter had 18, Chris Childs scored 17, and Mike McCurdy added 12 for the Bluejays, who were up by over 30 halfway through the second half before Mark Scherer called off the dogs. Sixteen Bluejays got into the game tonight, with twelve of them scoring.

Todd Raridon should have the NCC team bus stop off for some nice refreshment on the way home from Lake Forest. The Cards have earned it!

A tale of two cities halves in tonight's NCC vs Lake Forest game.
The initial half featured stout defense on the part of the Cardinals, holding the Foresters to 8/25 shooting (32 %), including 0/9 on threes. In the 2nd stanza however, the Cardinals let their guard down.  Accordingly, the Foresters hit at a 45.5 percentage, including a (defensively) horrible 47 % on threes to climb back into relative contention. NCC center Brandon Stanciel provided some nice D on LFC big man Travis Clark in the 1st half, but committed all 5 of his fouls in the 1st thirteen minutes of the 2nd half, during and after which the ball found Clark low on the blocks on a much more frequent basis than it did so in the opening frame.
As GS aptly stated above, one of the turning points of the game came during the 1st half with the score 13-12 in favor of the home team. At that juncture of the contest, NCC ripped of 19 straight points. The Cards were able to feed off this yoke sac of a lead throughout the 2nd half, usually maintaining a 6-11 point advantage.
The other pivotal point in the NCC victory was a clutch display of FT shooting by the Cards down the stretch, led by freshman Derek Raridon who hit 14 of his 15 attempts for the game, including going 6 for 6 in the final minutes. Collectively, the Cards cashed in on 22 of 27 (82 %) from the line, including 11 of 12 in the final 1:08.
North Central was led in scoring by Raridon who registered the 1st double double of his career with a game high 23 & 10. Reid Barringer had 16, and David Twyman added 14 and had 6 boards. Brian Evans missed his first shots since opening night, going 3/6 and 3/4 for 9 points. He also had 8 rebounds. Jonny Knapczyk "exploded" for 7 shot attempts and 7 points.

*Kyle Julius did not make the trip. He has been severely under the weather due to     acute bronchitis, and hasn't practiced since the Albion game last Wed.

NCC leaves on a 3 day trip to Indiana next Thurs to play Indiana Institute of Technology and Franklin.

Wheaton faces the ultimate measuring stick tomorrow at Wash U. That game will give us all a better idea of where the Thunder actually are. How do people think a legit #8 team would fare on the Bears home court? We can use that criteria to judge tomorrow's performance by Wheaton.
Not sure if this helps, but here is a list of Wash U games last year vs teams in the final 2008-09 D3hoops.com poll...

vs #5 Richard Stockton (neutral) – W, 61-52
vs #8 Guilford (neutral) – W, 77-58
vs #3 St. Thomas (neutral) – W, 79-64
@ #2 Wheaton – W, 55-52
vs #7 UW-Whitewater (neutral), W, 73-70
vs #18 Lawrence (neutral), W, 67-65
@ #14 Elmhurst, L, 75-82

(Wash U's second loss was to unranked Rochester, at home, 69-70.)

Other CCIW games...

vs Illinois Wesleyan - W, 86-93
@ Augustana – W, 87-82 (OT)
vs North Park (neutral) – W, 89-65

Does anybody know if there will be a local Augie radio (and by radio I mean internet) broadcast for the Gonzaga game?

Andybody know if Augie got out before the blizzard?
