Does anybody know if there will be a local Augie radio (and by radio I mean internet) broadcast for the Gonzaga game?

Andybody know if Augie got out before the blizzard?

Thanks for that (repost).  I'm a little slow on the uptake this morning.

good quote by augie coach grey "Only one team is coming into this game unbeaten and it isn't Gonzaga".

i would suggest that the number of unbeatens after the game is played will be about equal with Augie's chances of winning it - Zero.  Ya never know.   :o

but it is still a great boost for their program and the CCIW

I enjoyed the Augie blog.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

While looking at the CCIW stats thus far a few things jumped out at me.

1. Wheaton is dead last in offensive rebounds at 7.17 per game.  That is 3 rebounds less per game than the next team (IWU @ 10.57) and less than half as many as the top CCIW team (Augie @ 15.60).  Wheaton is 2nd to last in defensive rebounds.

2. Wheaton has been shooting relatively well overall from behind the arc at 38% (1st in CCIW thus far), though does not seem to be as important an emphasis in their offense as other CCIW teams as they have only attempted 79 3-pointers.

In the loss to Hope, Wheaton was out rebounded 45 to 27 and was miserable in all aspects of shooting (34% Total, 27% 3's, 50% FT).

I don't try to read too much into stats, but it seems to me if Wheaton continues struggle in their rebounding and their 3 point shooting drops off at all, it will begin to cost them some games - especially when the CCIW schedule hits.

This may be the toughest week of all time for a CCIW team. Augie plays a ranked DI team on their home court tonight and Saturday plays DIII #1 ranked and two time defending champ Wash U. on their home court. The freshmen (and for that matter the vets) on Augie's squad will get a real education in the next two games, but the lessons learned in these games are probably not ones they will enjoy very much.

Hopefully Gonzaga shows some mercy and keeps the final margin below the 32 point spread. My guess is they could win by 4 plus if they wished to. Who knows maybe Wash U will seem beatable after playing the Zags

Followed by another tough week with the University of Chicago and UW-Whitewater on the road, not to mention Monmouth and Buena Vista to end the non-conference schedule.

Does anyone know what happened to BV this year?

Byoo-nuh Vista lost its top five scorers and top six rebounders from last season's team. Only five lettermen returned this year for the Beavers. This season is the ultimate test as to whether or not Brian Van Haaften rebuilds or reloads his program.

That would explain the 4-3 record.  Thanks for the explanation.

I noticed that in addition to the video, the game is being covered by our campus radio station.  And, the Wheaton College station broadcasting coverage as well.

There will be no less than four unique ways to follow the game tonight.  Its not something I have seen before.

Having watched Mike Schauer coach Gordon College for nearly seven years (my wife and I stayed in the area after graduation), I can tell you that this is a hallmark of Schauer-run programs.

At least in the beginning, his teams relied on the 3-ball. This made for some exciting games, as well as for some horrendous losses. I cannot pull the stat off the top of my head, but I believe that out of the total tenure Schauer had at Gordon, the Fighting Scots were a consistently solid 3-point shooting team.

Additionally, Gordon was consistently outrebounded in games for his first four or five years. It wasn't until Gordon had been built a little bit and this current class of seniors came in when the team started to outrebound other teams. Now, the Fighting Scots are quite tall (6' 11", 6' 8" and 6' 8" make up the frontcourt) and can pull down boards with the best of them.

Now, I understand that the other half of statistics involves the actual roster. Still, Schauer-run programs are strict man-to-man defense and motion offense. They do live and die with the efficiency of open jump shots.

But give Schauer some time and he'll find the right mix of players to eventually gain an edge on the inside, as well. The current Gordon team is averaging 40+ rebounds and shooting nearly 40%.

Just some insight from someone who covered the program for a few years and got to see my fair share of Schauer jumping from his chair at the most surprising of moments... The little man has ups... Plus he's just a genuinely nice guy.

I just rewatched the Sean Johnson bomb from half-court again (now, of course, on the front page) and I'm impressed with how pressured the shot was.  It isn't just that he made a half court shot... he had to dribble around a guy and shoot over him.  Twice as tough!

My point is that it was a tougher shot than just a half court shot.  End of story.  No qualification needed.

Now, if you want to talk about IWU and something that is broken, feel free to start a different topic.  I wasn't even close to addressing that, nor do I feel that I am qualified to, as I haven't even listened to an IWU game this year, let along see one.  I've seen all of 3.4 seconds of them all year... the aforementioned video.  They played tough against Wash U, but they made just 2 baskets and 2 FT's in the last 4:51.  That may be because of Wash U's defense, or it may be because they choked in a big game.

I'm not able to judge that.  Perhaps you are, if so, feel free to judge.

My comment was simply about the shot.

Gonzaga to shoot FT's to start the game...Terrence Green was caught dunking in warmups.  Not the start the Vikings were looking for.
