I seem to remember quite a bit of talk about McCullough prior to last season with regard to a strong possibility that after his 1st or 2nd year, he might give up basketball to concentrate on a combination of his studies and baseball. Wasn't he more accomplished as a baseball pitcher than a basketball player coming out of high school?

I don't think there actually was a lot of credible conversation about that.  I remember you posting that rumor here last season...but I've never heard anyone close to Eric McCullough or the IWU team say that.

Either way, I know McCullough plans on resuming (starting) his basketball career at IWU when he is healthy.  I've heard that from Eric, his father, and Ron Rose.

Begging your pardon TQ, but it was not I who "posted that rumor" last season as I believe any comments I made on the subject were only follow ups to the possibility which was initially brought up by posters far more familiar with Eric than me, yourself included. One such post appears below.

No disrespect to IWU, Titan Q, this kid turned down 10 DI offers to play JV in Bloomington? I read the article and it kind of skirts the offer and visit subject. IWU is a great program with super facilities and fan base. But was there truly DI offers and if so, this still makes him no better then a JV prospect for IWU.

The Titan's must truly be loaded.

A newspaper article after he committed to IWU...

http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2008/03/26/scholastic/doc47e86e6693f6f903819761.txt

McCullough definitely had a bunch of low DI offers, but just because a kid has Division I scholarships does not mean he will be ready as a freshman to compete in college...even at the small college level.  Just as there is no guarantee a Division I transfer will become a star D III player.
As I understood it, McCullough wanted to be able to play two sports; and, No problem at IWU.  Not the case even in low D1 programs, it's usually a one sport scholarship offer with restrictions on playing other sports.  As talented as McCollough seems on the hardwoods, his upside opportunity beyond college may well be on the pitching mound.

Only a rumor at this point, but less surprising events have occurred----

Has anybody heard----about the possibility of Sean Fendley enrolling at Aurora and playing basketball during their 2nd semester?

As we know, you can't transfer from one CCIW school to another without sitting out a year. I would assume, that in following the intent of the rule, that this would also apply to players who are kicked out of CCIW schools as was Fendley who was booted out of Carthage following his punching out another individual at an off campus party.
This rumor has some credibility for the following reasons:
1. Aurora is close to Fendley's Elmhurst home.
2. The no waiting factor--He could play right away.
3. Fendley has been on the Aurora campus, and was seen at a game there.
4. Aurora coach James Lancaster wouldn't be shy about mentioning point #2 to a
player who had been dismissed from another school considering he hasn't had a
problem mentioning it players still enrolled at a different school.

And, if not 2nd semester this year, next year is also a possibility as Fendley would be able to play a whole season rather than just half a year.

Or....how 'bout getting off a season's worth of shots in half a season by transferring to Grinnell?  ;D

I lived in Grinnell Iowa in 1970.  Grinnell is a highly selective academic school so he would need to have a top notch academic standing to get in there... don't think basketball is enough.

When North Central played at Wesleyan recently, we arrived at halftime of the JV game against the IWU alums. While watching the 2nd had with a couple of Titan (adult) fans, both opined that McCullough would not be in a Titan basketball uniform for all 4 years of school. When I asked why they felt this way, they indicated they believed he would eventually give up basketball in favor of baseball because 1) its hard to play 2 sports and keep up with your schoolwork, and 2) he is a better baseball player (pitcher i think) than a basketball player.

Titan fans---Any thoughts?

Bob--

You stated I "posted that rumor" which implies I just randomly threw out my own crazy idea without either hearing it from someone else or otherwise having any direct knowledge of the situation. Rather than the "rumor" being my hair-brained idea, my post clearly indicates I was just passing along information that was related to me in a face to face conversation with two Titan fans. I didn't start any rumor about Mr. McCullough, and my post that you referenced is certainly not evidence of my doing so.

I'm comfortable with what I said, Mark - you "posted a rumor."  I didn't say you made it up...I said you posted it.

If I said that earlier today you "posted a rumor" about Sean Fendley's future, would it imply that you randomly threw out your own crazy idea?  No...it would simply mean you posted it.

Here's a what if question somebody asked me the other day and I didn't know how to answer. Last second scenario in a 1 point game. Shot is taken before the buzzer sounds but a goal tending occurs after the buzzer sounds. What is the ruling ??

And when Schiedermeier resumes starting, I'll add him to the list...just as I'll do with John Koschnitzky and anyone else who has been out with injury.

It's not an anti-Schiedermeier conspiracy, I promise.
