Nice to start the year off with a road win.  IWU's center platoon did a lot of damage...

Doug Sexauer: 23 pts (11-12 FG)
Ryan Connolly: 10 pts (4-6 FG)

Dan Schouten had 9 big 2nd half points.  Sean Johnson finished with 12, Jordan Zimmer had 10 & 5, and Sean Dwyer dished out 9 assists.  Travis Rosenkranz (9 pts, 3 assists) quietly had a nice game...made 2 FT's and a basket in the final minutes to help close it out.

Sounds like IWU just had too much size and depth for NCC.  Although, it sounded like there were some tough matchups on the defensive end of the floor for the Titans, with NCC being so much smaller and quicker.  Interestingly, IWU shot the ball 10 less times from the field and 10 less times from the FT line...and still led the final 35 minutes or so (and fairly comfortably most of the way).

Wow does Derek Raridon sound good...34 points in his first career CCIW game.  David Twyman had a big game too - 24 points.  Reid Barringer finished with just 5 points.

Unfortunately I have to go shovel to driveway now (although I can't complain since it's the first time I've had to shovel in 2 years in Columbia, Mo.).

Nick Williams had 21 and 9 tonight for NPU, while Davone Robinson had 15 points, Shaun Collins had 12, and Nick Hoekstra had 10 and 8. Augie was led by Kyle Nelson and Brian DeSimone, who had 14 apiece, while Nelson and Kam Norton split rebounding honors with seven apiece.

Augie outshot NPU, 50% to 44% from the field and 41% to 39% from downtown. NPU did better at the line, although neither team (as expected) covered itself in glory from the charity stripe: NPU 64%, AC 50%. The much bigger hosts outrebounded NPU by 11 and forced six more turnovers than they coughed up.

NPU had five turnovers and a blocked shot on its first six possessions, and by the time the visiting Vikes scored, five minutes into the game, they were already down 17-0. In spite of that disgusting start, they actually did manage to make a game of it. NPU knocked the lead down to five, where it stayed for about 3 1/2 minutes late in the half, before a late run took Augie into the locker room with a 10-point bulge. In the second half the two teams traded baskets for eighteen minutes, the lead never getting any bigger than 13 and never any smaller than six. Down by ten with two minutes left, though, North Park ran out of gas and Augie finished the game strongly to produce the final fourteen-point margin.

Final from Kenosha:

Carthage 75, Wheaton 62

I got to give Wheaton some credit. They came north and played their hearts out. Here are a few observations from the game:

1) wheaton has a tall guy named Tim
2) Ben Panner attempted to set a new CCIW record for most airballs from behind the arc.
3) it seems wheaton is indeed in bad shape... i would challenge them to an endurance race. their whole team can run relay style and see if they can run further than i can by myself.

The Kenosha News gave Titan Q and me  a shout-out.

"Except for maybe a handful of savants who make frequent visits to the league's message board at D3hoops.com, no one knows the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin better than Bosko Djurickovic."

This is unrelated to tonights game, but I was just reading through this board and was wondering if anyoneknew the answer to this question.  In the article quoted above, it says Wheaton lost to WashU in the Elite 8, but that game was actually in the round of 16, right?

Washington University defeated Wheaton in the Elite Eight last year.  Unfortunately, I could not be there.  What a game it was.

No, Wash U and Wheaton played in the Round of 16.  I'd call it "Sweet" except that Wheaton lost.
Wash U beat St. Thomas in the Round of 8, which was the Saturday of the 2nd weekend of the tournament at King Arena.

hugenerd is right...on Friday night, St. Thomas beat Puget Sound and Wash U beat Wheaton...then Saturday, Wash U beat the Tommies (30-0 coming in) in the Elite 8 game.

Whether 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round, there are those of us who would contend it was the title game! ::)  Further games did not diminish that feeling.

NPU's Phil S. was a DNP tonite...how long is he injured?  We've sorely missed him for over a month, I believe.

Joe Gonzalez was also a DNP versus Augie.  JG, like Nick Williams, can create a shot in the paint.  I continue to be befuddled as to why JG does not play.

According to Greg (8 hours ago), Schniedermeier is definitely done for the year (but will seek a medical redshirt).  He posted nothing about Gonzalez.
